Pretty funny stuff...let me address a few issues.

1) No, that is not Ron Jeremy in my avatar. That is me. Oh to be confused with him all the time...bring on the hot porno girls, starting with Traci Lords. Yee haw!

B) PCM - you're right, you still do owe me. You comin' down this year? Buy me a waffle cone and we'll call it even.

I see some of your points, PCM, but I still think you need to honor the past as well as point towards the future. Like I said, don't get me wrong because I almost cried when I saw my logo-less Sioux in 1994-1995, thought the geometric head jerseys were ok from about 1996 thru a couple of seasons ago, and practically jumped for joy when the new Indian-head logo jerseys came out. Change can be good.

Despite being a season ticket holder, I am obviously limited in the number of 7+ hour round-trip drives I want to make a season. Perhaps I've just been unlucky with quality opponents (Findlay, for example) playing on the weekends when I've been able to make the trip. Or maybe there's just something fun about being one of several hundred fans on the road watching the Sioux beat the home team. Who knows.

See you all at the final five. I'll be there with my guest, Jenna Jameson. :)

;) I most likely won't be up there again this season. I normally sell the late-season home games since I always to go the final five and drop more than a few $$$$ there. Starting with the Red Baron Final Five, it's gonna be a fun year of hockey...March 2004 Final Five, September 2004 World Cup of Hockey, December 2004/Jan 2005 World Juniors. Ka-ching! I might have to get back into the porn business to fund my hockey addiction. :)

Forgive me for interjecting (I'll probably end up owing an ice cream cone or two); however, the past is far from lost and decently honored in The Ralph.

Walk that lower outer concourse: the All-Americans, the old outdoor statue from old REA, the photos and murals.

Walk that upper outer concourse: the NHLers, the Sioux Hall of Fame, and more photos and murals.

While listening to the series with Bucky from the Kohl Ctr it sounded over the radio like the atmosphere was jumping, lots of the Bucky pep band music and not so much canned rock. The Kohl is a bigger building than The Ralph so my question for those of you that were there is: How are things done there? Is there pep band into it alot more than ours? Is there as much canned rock music and commercial pllugs over the pa?

Sicatoka,

Three waffle cones, please. :)

I have walked around the entire arena and there are large areas reminiscent of the old arena. My biggest beef is with the banners...and I have friends in the alumni department who did let me know that when they took down the "old" banners, the assumption was they would be raised in the new arena, not completely tossed in place of new-logo banners. I'm not the only one who noticed.

Three! :)

The old REA banners were given to each team's captain/designate.

The championship banners in the old REA had the geometric logo on them.

The geometric logo didn't exist before 1976.

Please explain 1959 and 1963.

I'm thinking that set precident.

Make it four.

And what were those guys gonna do with 'em? Hang them in their den?

Correct on the geometric logo. I'm guessing 1959 and 1963 were just to make them all look nice and uniform...oh wait...kinda like the new arena! LOL. I don't know. They could be worse...like the plastic "banners" at Mariucci. Old logo, new logo, I guess all that would be nice is an EIGHTH one being hung at REA next fall.

Big hug, Sicatoka!

I traveled to Madison Wisconsin to watch the Sioux play on Feb 8th. I am from Wisconsin and I was looking forward to watching the Sioux beat the crap out of the badgers. Well we all know that did not happen and not any fault to the Sioux, Wisconsin played a great series. What I saw that really got my attention was the fans. As I was quoted in today's DS "I was embarrassed to come back here" it

The drunken idiot made a complete a$$ out of himself and the school he was representing by wearing a white Sioux jersey.

What difference does it make what color his jersey was?

Do I have to buy two jerseys now, a green or black one for the road games & a white one for home games? What about the fans at REA wearing road jerseys? If you're supporting your team does it really matter what color clothes you wear?

One more thing...

Let's assume that of the 6000 people at the old Ralph 2000 were students and 4000 were other fans. The new building might have picked up a few more student fans so let

Makes no difference to me what color his jersey was, whether it was white, green, or black. The fact that he was a total jerkweed to those in most of the section was bad enough, but by wearing ANY Sioux jersey, he portrayed himself to be a Sioux fan (obviously). For those ready to beat to death 21 year old college students tipping a few, the guy was 35-40 years old.

Ok, I took it the wrong way. :)

Where were you sitting on Sat?

While I think "embarrassed to come back here" is a bit of an exaggeration, I agree with your points regarding the student section and the pep band being together.

I agree with the statement. I am embarrassed to go back to REA as well. I was sitting in Madison reading about UND's problem, and I was embarrassed then too. It sucks to come back to our new atmosphere. I don't see it ever changing. To get the band on the end we shoot at twice, we would need at least four sections because opening. You also have to consider that there are suites, club seats, and standing room only people on the ends. Is that going to fly? The extra students will have to be on the sides of the bar, which will keep the students apart still. There is nothing that can be done with the poorly designed arena.

To answer a previous question, I don't believe the Kohl Center plays any recorded music during the game.

I don't recall there being any piped in music either, and there definitely weren't conspicuously read advertisements during play. For those with broadband, here's a small taste of Kohl Center. Sorry about the quality, I didn't have a video camera with me, these are taken with a still camera, so pretty low-res.

Sieve (2.7Mb .mov)

We want more (5.3Mb .mov)

In both I'm on the completely opposite side of the arena from the students and that is the sound of the ENTIRE arena shouting in unison. You can see in the sieve video that the entire crowd is doing the hand motions. Similarly during "we want more" the entire crowd is waving their arms while counting.

ESPN's show Outside the Lines did a segment on fan behavior last night but I didn't get to see the entire show. There was a good balance of opinions from both the pro & anti camps. They covered mostly rowdy behavior at college roundball games & even though I don't agree with restrictive-language policies at sporting events I understand the other side's viewpoint better now.

If the suites are a problem, rope off a row or two at the top of the sections. You will not be in the way of the club seat people, and standing room is a joke, i.e. you get to watch the Jumbotron from the bar.

The extra students will have to be on the sides of the bar, which will keep the students apart still.

I sit in 306 on Saturdays. I would gladly move to center ice, if that's what it takes. I'd miss those around me, but I'd do it.

That is about the most defeatist attitude I've heard on this issue, at least from anyone on this forum.

There is nothing that can be done with the poorly designed arena.

:) I about fell over in my chair at this one. Maybe I'm easy to please, but as an alum that was on the outside looking in with the 6,000 seat arena, I like the new digs, and the fact that many of us now have access to games. Oh, and another thing. Without the "poorly designed arena", my guess is you would be watching #11 one weekend a season, with an ugly brown M on his sweater.

I actually agree with Fedorov in the sense that the arena was not designed with a student section in mind. Other than that, the design is terrific.

That was my point. My entire post was regarding factors that do not allow the students to be used at the fullest potential. That is a major flaw in the arena, and it can never be changed. Other aspects about the arena are great, with the exception of the sound system.

... with the exception of the sound system.

They spend $2,000,000.00 on a state-of-the-art arena sound system and it's not right. :)

Every other arena I've been in has no bass. The Ralph has bass.

To me the only error in the arena is the level of the suites relative to the top row of seating in the lower bowl.

Aaron of SSSS has asked us to keep posting ideas so here are some of mine...

What if the SSSS writes up a short blurb for Scott Hennen to read over the PA, encouraging some fan volume? At football games, the PA announcer exhorts everyone to get "On your feet for another Sioux kickoff" and to "Let 'em know it's third down." Something similar could be done for "The Red Pepper Power Play" or for faceoffs in the attacking zone or any other appropriate time.

I know a lot of the season ticket holders and suite holders have a problem with students standing the whole game but why couldn't the arena start the tradition of standing when Hennen tells us, "One minute remaining in the game"? If everyone stands, no one's sight line is blocked.

You'd think people would know when to cheer, but it's apparant that a lot of people in the arena need prompting, if not outright prodding. How long does it take to recognize that "Welcome to the Jungle" is the cue? I think the noise meter beats people over the head with the idea that they're supposed to get loud and maybe that's what it's going to take to get some sustained noise going.

It would be a good idea for the ring to flash, in some semblance of cadence, "Let's...Go...Sioux!" either to start that chant or to build it.

I may as well confess that I don't usually "Sieve" the opposing goalie. A lot of people may think that such a catcall is a sign of bad sportsmanship (my excuse is carpal tunnel syndrome) but as my tiny contribution to supporting the students' efforts at "Raising the Roof at the Ralph," I'll join in.
