Jackguy,

No, it was early in the 2nd half and the refs called a hand-check or something with the body at the top of the key on the SIoux. Then the Jacks in-bounded and their girl was, according to the radio guys, maulled pretty good on the steal, much more-so then the previous call. Yeah, I remember the radio guys saying there were very literally no calls made at all in the 1st half, and then the 2nd half they tightened things up a lot. With so many complaints about the officials from all different parties, it makes me wonder whose (what leagues) refs were they, or if there were a mix on every crew. Or, since the tourney was held in a middle school gym, were middle school refs contracted  ? And an attendence of 975 or so last night? That tells me that there were no people there from the host school at all. Absolutely terrible. Had that been in GF, Fargo, or Brookings, the title game would've been pretty full no matter who played, host team or otherwise.

Agree on all points. I think 975 was a good crowd considering distance from both schools and isolated on a Monday night. The UND and SDSU fans were both very vocal and supporting of their respective schools. I did see the CSP coach there and do believe they made every effort to make the tournament as professional as possible considering the inadaquate size of the venue.

Johnson, Vogel and Seiler to Mankato. AJ's went to Gustavas and Vogel is from St. Peter. Why would you stay in Brookings when you could go to Mankato and win? ( and have something to play for) Of course they are going to St. Joe and Johnson will not turnnhis back on Oien like James did with Ford.

I don't know why Vogel would want to leave, she shouldn't be surprised by SDSU going D1, unless she likes Johnston that much. Until I see some of this reported in print or on TV I don't know how much I can believe, but with Mankato's coach gone Johnston would seem to be high on their list.

I hate to spread rumors. My sources are inside at MSU-Mankato on Johnston, the other info came from a lesser but solid source. Nothing may come of it since there are no male women's coaches at Minnesota State schools of any size and that is the only thing that would be holding it back. They'd be carzy not to hire him otherwise. Someone on the State board doesn't know MSU' womens coach is gone. I am not shocked by that, they may have hit their head when they jumped from their mens to their womens bandwagon.

You hate to spread rumors but that is what you are doing. Vogel has stated that she came to State for the atmosphere and the ability to play DI ball. She was quoted as saying she was looking forward to competing at a higher level. After the elite 8 there will be nothing for the coaching staff or players to prove at the DII level. All you have to do is look at the schools in the Elite 8 to realize it's time for schools like SDSU,NDSU and UND to move on.

Nothing left to prove? Your right, now that I think bout it how many times did I hear John Wooden say that...well nothing left to prove here at UCLA, should go to the NBA or take a sabbatical next year. If there's nothing left to prove, why go to St. Joe this year?

doclenz,

you mention there are no men that are women's coaches in Minnesota State schools? Our coach at SMSU is a male. Won 20-plus games for four straight years until this season. Our newspaper reported on Saturday that he has applied for Mankato. We'll see. I've heard Johnston may get it though.

Heck, maybe he'll want Omaha instead of Mankato

jack guy....hate to burst your bubble that i have heard from 2 very very good sources that the Mankato job is Johnson's and that a few SDSU players may be going with him to make it a immediate impact.....2 sources that have spoken to Johnson off the record...so take it for what its worth....like i said SDSU enjoy the trip to St. Joe's cuz you wont have another one for 7 long years....and i wonder why the players would want to leave SDSU??? nothing to play for...get your butt kicked when the school isnt even going to fully fund the move up?? no conference....who will SDSU be playing when everyone else is in conference games in Dec, Jan, Feb, March???? good question huh...no one has open dates....duh....keep going to those greener pastures though...at moo u #2 you guys know all about greener pastures dont you....

Sorry. I said no mens coaches at schools of any size like the U of M, St. Cloud, Duluth, Minnesota State. Sorry for not including SWMSU. He has done a fine job. I just thought it could be tough in the Soviet Socialist State of Minnesota to hire a man at MSU. Everything that needed to be said was noted in the above post.

I was just thinking that next season may be the first time in a long time where the women's basketball team may have the most question marks among the "big four" UND teams--hockey, football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The other three teams should all return a very solid nucleus, whereas the women will probably need to rely pretty heavily on newcomers. And yet, I would still probably give the women the best odds among the four teams of winning a conference title due in large part to the fact that there's really no team that appears better on paper.

You have must have stayed up all night to come up with such a thought provoking post as that!

How's this then.....

God, why doesn't the newspaper that is an hour away give us more coverage? They are conspiring against us, it is obvious because the owner graduated from our rival so he obviously has some hidden agenda. I wish our paper could be more like the Fargo paper, even though the newspaper we are complaining about is an hour away and Fargo is the home of the university they cover so well, we should get that kind of coverage, Even though we haven't been good in football for 40 years, I think next year is our year. We have the talent in place to get it done nest year, despite the fact that our kids have never even heard of the post-season, plus we have a good kicker in the NFL. And in basketball, we could beat some of the teams in the Big Dance right now, I think we could win right now the Mid-Con despite the fact that we enter the D2 postseason highly ranked year after year and then choke it away, often times at home. Our university is so great, who wouldn't want to go there, and our administration is second to none. Our AD's problems are personal, we shouldn't worry about them because he is a great man and they are only charges right now, and our policy is to look the other way anyway. Our facilities are great also, if we could only get a couple of free scoreboards from the local manufacturer they would be some of the best in the country. And our town, how great is it? Main Street is jam packed with things to do. We are so good and will do so well in D1, it is a wonder we have to keep saying it, if we keep reassuring ourselves maybe we will actually believe it and it will come true. What would we do without guests who add so much intellectaully to our board. If you do not have anything good to say, don't say it at all and leave.

That should seem more like home for you.

From the Star-Tribune:

Gophers women's assistant coach David Stromme is one of four finalists announced for the position of women's head basketball coach at Minnesota State, Mankato, along with Concordia (St. Paul) women's coach Paul Fessler, St. Cloud State women's assistant Lori Fish and Minnesota State Moorhead women's coach Karla Nelson.

Any comments, doclenz?

It is also on the MSU-Mankato web site. I guess no Amy Ruley, Chad Lavin or Aaron Johnston as it was rumored. I cannot see Stromme taking it with all the baggage that comes with MSU-M (no bduget etc). But any of the other 3 could take the job. Fish does not have head coaching experience. She may have to go outside the NCC and get it before she gets a posistion such as this. I think it will be either Nelson (good for her) or the CSP guy, who has done a good job there.

Corella,

That post was a little ridiculous. I know the jack fans complain alot, but honestly is it anymore that you all do about your sioux on this board. We are all diehard fans and both universities have positives and negatives. Its kinda hard for you to say that SDSU hasn't been good in football for forty years. If they are "not good" and the Sioux beat us by one point on the luckiest play i have ever seen (honest) after a blatent penalty on the previous touchdown (even the sioux fans where i was sitting admitted it) than what does it say about your team. I know you guys went on to big things but come on. I know our men's team underachieved or choked, but still had a pretty good season without arguably our best player for 99% of the season, and did beat UND 3 times. But we did lose and lose bad so i will give you that. Many people do think that Metro St. could not only compete but compete in the top 50 of D1 so i think we could probably as well. So could UND, and NDSU, and USD, and UNO for that matter. I know JACKGUY can get opinionated, but he is just a diehard fan, just like you.
