Tell that to the Republican senior citizens that need medicaid and the disabled and sick and the Republican oil companies and other companies that get government subsidies and the military industrial complex taking up what 1/3 of every tax dollar you pay.

The Republicans want their free stuff too, they just don't want to pay for it. They would rather pass the blame for all spending to Democrats and just be the good guys that offer tax cuts to the wealthy that we can't afford to give.

Half of this country pays no income tax and half the country voted in Obama to a second term...you do the math.

More could and should pay, but that would make too much sense and blow up the liberal platform of socialism.

So my first reaction to these kids was if they are seniors they do not need to worry about participating in graduation and they should be suspended. But if they are freshman. I am not sure what you can do with them where it would really make a huge difference except for expulsion from school for the remainder of the year. Let their parents figure it out. They should not be allowed to enroll in any public school for the remainder of the year. Just my opinion.

These incident just re-inforces people's stereotypes of North Dakota and that is not a good thing. I know my punishment might seem extreme but they need to learn and a one or two day suspension is nothing. They would not learn a damn thing from that.

A, Good for Obama for ending the war that Bush incorrectly started. B, I think Gitmo should be closed and we should move the prisoners to Maximum security prisons in the US.

Somebody has to be responsible and pay for the bills. The Republicans will bring us more debt ceiling crises and we will see our nation's credit rating go even lower:)

Ummm....the prisoners in Gitmo aren't United States citizens, passit. That presents a bit of a problem since they're not given rights granted by our Constitution.

Somebody has to be responsible and pay for the bills...but the Republicans are at fault for trying to cap spending? I don't know how you pay YOUR bills, passit, but I don't pay mine by just raising my own debt ceiling every few months.

Well, it's a good thing Obama ended the war in Iraq immediately (oh, wait, he ended it on the exact same timeline of George Bush) and closed Gitmo immediately (as promised in his first election campaign), right? Oh, wait a second, Gitmo's STILL open?

Have you noticed that 2% missing from your paycheck now that the election is over? Boy, the Dems sure villified the Republicans ("Where is your soul?") over not wanting to pass the 'payroll tax holiday,' but then as soon as the election was over, Dems sure didn't rush to keep that in place, did they?

Dang those Republicans fought so hard for the 2% that was a temporary cut to stay didn't they?

In 2009, it was estimated 46-51% of individuals and/or households filing taxes paid ZERO federal income tax. In 2011 it was reported that 47% filing paid ZERO federal income tax. Regardless of how you want to spin it, we as a nation are becoming a society of people walking around with their hands out looking for "free" stuff expecting someone else to pay for it.

Hate to tell you these but you need to look at the demographics and second of all almost all of the reason they don't pay income taxes came from Republican passed bills. More importantly the lower the income the HIGHER the percentage of income is paid in taxes. http://www.itep.org/whopays/#map Oxbow6 it not as if you and MafiaMan are above the 15% category anyhow.

You generally make assumptions on everything and everyone on this site and as usual you are wrong on this topic as well.

Whether it was a joke or not, kids need to know where the line is; and that line seem to be dissappearing within society. There is just no excuse for this, and the kids should suffer some sort of reprecussions, probably a suspension. What they don't realize, is when this kind of image gets out, it reflects the individuals, the school, the team, the city, even the state. Pretty dissappointing show from the students; if I did something like this, I wouldn't be worried about any punishment from the school, but rather how my parent would handle it. Not good!

It all depends on their social status and who their parents are.

You are an idiot. Yeah...all kids who go to Red River are rich kids born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Sure, some are well off, but come on...why make a statement like that to just make you sound like a moron. You know that trailer park next to Red River?? Where do you think those kids go to high school. Maybe you were being sarcastic...but it doesn't sound lie it. Next time before you talk, say the words out loud and hear how dumb you sound.

Think about what you just said and then compare it to what I said. Then realize how dumb you are. Would not taking into consideration of social status and who their parents are in deciding their punishment shows that they can be treated differently than the kids that live in the trailer park would be treated? Punishments have always been handled differently at Red River based on social status and who the parents are.

US History and Social Studies are generally taught in the 8th grade. Lack of knowledge is no excuse for three high school freshmen's poor choice of white out costumes. It's in the hands of their parents and the school now. It's too bad for for them and the community that the picture went viral. I hope with all my soul that their identities do not become public!!!

I agree with Siouxperfan7, Please take your out of context political bashing elsewhere. The majority of your discussion doesn't belong in this thread. Start another one if you want to continue your mutual bashing. Thanks.

You honestly believe that the administration takes into account the social status of a students parents when handing out punishments? Really?? You really think that the administration at Red River High School is so corrupt that students with rich parents can be bought off for doing something wrong while kids who's parents aren't as well off are punished worse?!! Really??!!! I would love to hear some examples of this since "punishments have always been handled differently at Red River based on social status and who the parents are."

These kids are in 9th grade...they made a stupid mistake and it's being dealt with. If this is the worst thing these kids ever do then the parents have done a wonderful job. I know these three kids on a personal level and all three are good kids. They made a mistake just like all of us have done..maybe a bigger mistake but a mistake none the less.

My son is in the 8th grade and I had to explain what all of this means. Also to the person above every town has the haves and have nots...it doesn't matter where you live...in house..in an apt. or in a trailer court

Sorry the joke skipped past you.

There was no joke perceived on my part. You took a shot at me and Mafia, which was ignorant and uneducated at best, and I called you out on it and then, like you usually do, you spin it as it was a joke on your end.

I don't know these kids at all. Even though I haven't lived in Grand Forks for 18 years, I would bet they are good kids because most kids in North Dakota are pretty good kids. Bottom line is they are kids. Everyone posting on this thread should read Siouxperseven's post about 43 times and then if you feel the need to add a post about the KKK or Chinese concentration camps read it again. Good post siouxperseven!
