A federal judge on Thursday threw out the Pennsylvania governor's lawsuit against the NCAA over sanctions against Penn State related to Jerry Sandusky, calling his argument "a Hail Mary pass" that easily warranted dismissal.

U.S. Middle District Judge Yvette Kane's decision puts an early end to the antitrust lawsuit Gov. Tom Corbett filed in January in which he sought to overturn a $60 million fine, a four-year bowl ban, scholarship limits and other penalties.

Too bad.....

Another interesting tidbit.

The NCAA claims that you can buy gear at their website, NCAA.com (under the "shop" tab) for all 582 teams. Interestingly enough, if you look at the list there seems to be one notable omission.

What is perhaps more interesting...under College Hockey Gear...you find the North Dakota State University Bison....but no hockey gear. I think they need to look at where their links are leading!

Some interesting rumbles from the bigger conferences about the NC$$.

"The fact is we've made it too easy to get into Division I and too easy to stay there," Bowlsby said. "I think it's virtually impossible right now to configure legislative proposals that have any chance of getting through the system intact that would accomplish anything in the way of meaningful change."

No conference commissioner has openly pushed to break away from the NCAA. But big-conference leaders are muscling for more control over their destiny as they move toward the 2014 launch of the first-ever, four-team College Football Playoff.

The plaintiffs added six current football players to the group, and NCAA lawyer Donald Remy responded by saying the suit "threatens college sports as we know it." Talking about Ed O'Bannon's putative class action.

So when does UND become members of the new lower FBS-upper FCS division. Because at this rate the NCAA will not look like the NCAA of today.

When? When the top 70 or so get their private club on top and the leftovers (about 50 or so) need the top half of FCS to join up with them.

So he doesn't like the FCS games but his members are signing then with no problem..Utah, Washington, Arizona, Oregon. Wouldn't he tell his members to stop doing it kinda like how Douple told his members not to play UND. (Of course the members didn't listen)

Commissioners work for the schools, the schools don't report to the commissioner. Commissioners can suggest but they can't tell the schools to do anything that the membership hasn't already planned or approved.

The blood around the NC$$ just attracted a very big "shark". :):hypocrite:

New York-based Winston & Strawn LLP is starting what it describes as the first college-focused division at a major law firm to represent players, coaches, schools and conferences against what Kessler, 59, described as “the unbridled power and influence” of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Does this mean its almost a sure thing the Super 5 will split and pay players?

So, hopefully one of our great legal minds can explain to us what's going on here with this. To me, it sounds like the NCAA is going to be taken to the cleaners.

A federal judge ruled Friday that a lawsuit challenging the way the NCAA has used the images and likenesses of college athletes can move forward, but denied class action status to the plaintiffs that could have potentially put the NCAA on the hook for billions of dollars in damages

I think the big conferences already have incentive to go their own way. If this case and another proceed, it may force the NC$$ to actually share money with current players. And the hypocrisy of "amateurism" will go away.

In fact, every top-division football player you saw on Saturday—and even those you didn't see—is suing college sports' governing body. They're part of a newly certified class-action lawsuit that seeks certain slices of college-sports revenues, the biggest of which is broadcast-rights contracts. Before long, the players who stop viewers' hearts with their play soon might receive a portion of the millions those broadcasts generate.
