Eight Bison football players charged

The drinking story and suspensions were reported in the Forum, the Herald, the Tribune, the Sun, on WDAY, on Valley News Live, on Kare 11, on the UND website...how much more do people want? UND reported it and acted on it and now it's awaiting court, there's no conspiracy here.

And when it gets to court the result will be in all the media outlets again only because it was athletes involved, not because it was a contributing charge which will be a rather minor puishment.

The media doesn't really care about the story because there's no controversy surrounding it...if UND would have kept it a secret, tried to lie their way out of it, or ignored it and didn't punish those involved, then the media would have had the ammo they needed to make a big stink out of it, as is happened UND handled it correctly and the sensational headline was just not there.

I'd expect them to report when players are actually charged with some kind of crime, especially when one player charged was never mentioned previously. Ask the AD/coach for his comment and then move on until something else happens. That seems to be standard procedure in Fargo.

It appears the GF Herald just forgot anything ever happened after the initial story. Maybe they are just incompetent journalists, I don't know. Following up on what was big story is pretty standard procedure.

Then take it up with the GF herald. Thanks for bringing this thread back from the dead btw. You're awesome...

Now imagine if these players were allowed to play and nothing was done to them. And then today we find out about it? Could you imagine what type of media firestorm that would create? Having players committing a crime and not being suspended immediately after it happened? And then having news outlets, University officials, and the public talking about how they weren't suspended, if they should be suspended, should they just wait for their day in court, etc, etc, etc!!! I wonder what that would have looked like?!!! :)

It would look like we are copying NDSU. Well this is one thing UND will not copy NDSU at, they can keep their criminals with no punishments to win a national title...that formula seems to work.

The University of North Dakota mens' hockey team is going to be something short of full strength when it opens its 2012-13 season Oct. 19 against Alaska Anchorage in Fairbanks.

Date of article.....September 18th!!!! Why is news to the Bisonville community?

http://www.valleynewslive.com/story/19572447/und-hockey-captains-suspended

Four UND hockey players have been suspended, following an apparent alcohol fueled initiation party for freshman, last weekend.

Suspended for one game are:

Senior Captain, Andrew MacWilliam and assistant captains, Corban knight, Danny Kristo and Carter Rowney.

The players are suspended for the season opening game against Alaska-Fairbanks on October 19th. The entire team also faces disciplinary action.

Date of article...September 18th....again why is this news to the Bisonville community?

Because they were charged with committing a crime almost two months ago and nothing was said. One player who was charged was never even mentioned in the initial stories. Bisonville and Mike McFeely shouldn't have to force the Herald to do its job.

Today the NDSU softball players were charged and guess when that was reported...today.

Well good for them. The AD of that sport knows how to drop the hammer on her players, unlike Gene (Winning at football is the only priority) Taylor.

If the football players had committed an alcohol related offense of that nature the hammer would have come down as well. Gene is the AD of the entire athletic department, he is involved with both men's and women's sports.

We know Gene...we know voter fraud is not an alcohol or sex offense. :silly:

Of what nature, Minor in Possession? Cause that was a few of them were suspended for. Pretty sure the hammer didn't come down on that one. Try again.

Your anger is against the Herald or even KFGO for not reporting the charges. Trying to compare the head coach of your football team and AD putting his foot in his mouth doesn't really hold water when compared to this situation.

This article came out 3 days after the original article was printed, it named all 7 involved and mentioned 4 minors who were going to be charged later.

I'm sure like everybody on here the Herald missed when they were actually charged almost 3 months later, maybe they should have caught it but it's not exactly a federal case. Accusing them of covering up something that has been in print twice and will be in print again in March isn't realistic.

That article more or less says nothing about the players who were charged in December. It was obvious the underage players were going to get minors.

Maybe the Herald is just incompetent maybe they are afraid to say bad things about UND hockey...maybe it is both. A few months ago on this board a Class A Misdemeanor was a major crime and now apparently the Herald can just gloss over those charges that involve UND athletes since they aren't major federal offenses. There is no way they would have mentioned it today if it wasn't brought up by other sources.

Your post said "if the football players" had committed an alcohol related offense, the hammer would have come down. I guess I read it wrong and thought you were referring to the football players.

Actually the second paragraph names the players (minus one) charged in December.
