CBS Sports has a story out the the MWC is interested in expanding with UTEP and Rice.  If CUSA loses those two, they would hold pat.  MWC has no interest in Idaho or NMSU or even NDSU and Montana for those of you following Lakes wet dreams.

Rice should just hold tight, as the American would call them up next if the B12 takes two American teams.

Geez, that's a picture I don't want in my head before I go to sleep tonight!

Know some posters can't handle this, but here is how the MVC would handle going FBS:

MVC North

Drake

N Iowa

I'LL St

Bradley

S Ill

Loyola

Ind St

EvansvillE

MVC South

Mo St

Wichita St

Oral Roberts

Denver

UT-Arlington

NMSU

Sam Houston St

Lamar

MVC gets to nine FBS teams with WSU adding football, taking NMSU, upgrading Lamar and Sam Houston St

Every new team in the south would jump at the opportunity.

The Slummit would be decimated.

NDSU, SDSU, and USD have standing offers from the Big Sky, which will take its financially able teams to FBS.

Omaha and W Ill would have to beg the OVC.  Omaha might get in the MVC if Evansville defects to the Horizon or OVC.

IUPUI and IPFW would get ASUN offers as a pair.

Herd, when you think college football do you see two tiers or three at the DI level today? I guess I'm asking do you see:

( FBS and FCS ) or ( P5, G5, and FCS )

The way I see it, I see it as three tiers. The P5 have their autonomy ruling. That in my mind splits FBS into tiers (P5, G5). Yet, the P5 retains the power and makes the rules for all of FBS (P5 and G5) and effectively all of DI (so FCS inclusive).

And if I've learned anything about the P5 of late, they'll do whatever is best for them. If they decide more G5 schools is good for the P5 it'll happen.

Today there are two championships, one at be 85 scholarship level, and one at the 63 scholarship level.   Why on earth would anyone in the FBS ranks want or allow a large infusion of FCS teams to join them?  There is no desire for that by the P5 conferences, the G5 conferences, or the NCAA.  The thought that anyone in the FBS would want or allow whole FCS conferences to goto the 85 scholarship level is ludicrous.  Thus the current rules in place for FCS move ups to have an invite from an existing FBS conf.

So why have twenty teams moved to FBS from FCS  in thirty years if FCS has so much national notoriety?

GaSo, Appy St, Ga St, FIU, FAU, Charlotte, So Alabama, Troy, UMass, UTSA, and Texas St fans are all screaming to go back to FCS. They complain all the time on FCS boards.

The P5 sure complains about all the FCS moveups, especially since they changed the rules making the P5 an effective monopoly.

Those 20 teams all joined existing FBS conferences, following the allowed process for moving to FBS football.  They are FBS.  Nothing you have said changes the process.  There is nothing wrong with being FBS or FCS.   The process of joining the FBS ranks is not open to entire FCS conferences, as the ncaa has repeated over and over.

Totally false.  FBS used to allow moveups by independents a little over ten years ago.  Troy moved up as an independent and the Sun Belt didn't want them, but Troy performed admirably and had the owners of the Blockbuester-like chain Movie Gallery backing them.  The Sun Belt ended up taking Troy out of necessity.  The Sun Belt was not even an FBS league much more than 15 years ago.  Independents FBS teams like La Tech, La-La, N Texas, MTSU, Ark St and others decided they needed bowls and a regular conference to make their FBS teams viable. So the Sun Belt petitioned the NCAA to become an FBS conference then, and the NCAA granted their request.

The FBS moveup rules have  been changed so many time it would make your little brain spin like a top.  It was changed because the power teams didn't want more FBS teams.  Now the P5 doesn't care about FBS entry, as they control P5 entry, so they will relax the rules diluting the G5, so no G5 conference gets too powerful and threatens them.  Otherwise Liberty will sue for entry, forcing a change anyway.  The NCAA often changes their rules under a threat of a lawsuit (Indian nicknames is an exception).

Yeah, Indiana State can't afford an FCS football team. They will NOT be going FBS anytime soon. They have no attendance in a horrible stadium in a run-down poor city with no support for their football program. You better try again SV.

i don't want to defend someone who is using a bad wifi connection in the state hospital.... But it gets a lot easier to pay for when you receive FBS money... Bigger guarantees, probably at least somewhat bigger crowds, etc.

Indiana St has much more developed football revenue and more potential than La-Monroe, which has the smallest enrollment for a public FBS school.  Indiana State will do whatever it takes to stay in the  MVC.  If it means they have to put up end zone portable bleachers for a time, it will be done.

We know it hurts bizon pride to be a non-valued member of the future MVC.  Learn to deal with it now.  Wichita St gets who and what they want in that conference, and they don't want to no bizon or anything Dakota.

Would you please share with us your connection to the commissioner of every D1 conference and every D1 athletic director in the country? Have you been to Terre Haute? I have many times, Have family there. There is NO support for ISU football. The city is a run down, boarded up slum with no money. Unless they can get Larry Bird to open his checkbook, which we hear he has not been willing to do for the football program.

Wichita State would really be happy being grouped with UT-A, Lamar and SHSU? You are kidding right? Wichita State would add FB and jump to the MWC before they would agree to this. MWC would be vastly superior in FB and superior in BB than a MVC without WSU, Creighton, etc.

Ball St is FBS and Muncie is not much better than Terre Haute.  Ind St has more support than E Michigan, and E Mich hasn't been turned out of the MAC yet.

If the MVC and Wichita want to go FBS, there will take a couple of teams from Texas to enlarge their recruiting population for students and athletes.  NDSU simply doesn't do crap for them.  Wichita St has a lot of the same academic attributes as UND, namely aviation and entrepreneurial studies.  The Koch brothers have pumped a lot of money into Wichita St and they will probably bankroll football too.  Wichita St needs more programs in the MVC that are south (Lamar, Sam Houston, Incarnate Word, ORU, UTArlington, UALR will have to do) or west (like Denver, and NMSU), just like UND has a broad footprint west.

Eastern Michigan is stuck in the FBS in the MAC. If they were FCS today they wouldn't be contemplating a move up to FBS. They would probably move down if they could.

The NCAA and MAC haven't attempted to kick them out of FBS.  Once a school is FBS, they don't mess with your subdivision.  So Ind St has worse support then E Mich, Not.

E Mic is just lucky as the MAC wanted 10 teams in the 70s.  E Mich just happened to be there, in DII.

The MVC will need at least eight FCS teams to go FBS as a conference.  Ind St just happens to be there in the MVC already.  If Drake wants to go FBS again, the MVC would give them a shot, just like Villanova looked into FBS with the Big East.  Doubt it happens with Drake, unless someone is foolish enough to give major bucks.

I posted this in another thread, but it seems more relevant here:

Some people are speculating that Nielson moved from Western Illinois to South Dakota because of upcoming changes at WIU that may involve moving down to Division II for budgetary reasons. That would open up a spot in the MVFC/Summit League. And that would probably open up the debate within UND's fan base on if we should make the move so we are in the same league as the other Dakota schools.

If this goes down, it will set off a possible domino effect in intercollegiate athletics in the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains.

If the MVC wants NMSU, an appropriate basketball school for the MVC, it would be best if Denver and Oral Roberts and at least one Texas school was added, regardless of if they go FBS.  Losing Denver and ORU would be fatal to the Slummit.  Most of the Slummit can find landing spots, but W Ill may not have arranged anything.  Doubt they would go DII, but the uncertainty would cause any good coach to bail.

WIU leaves MVFC, UND joins MVFC, BSC doesn't replace UND.

That's cute. :)

And it very well might not effect anybody else. But it would result in a lot of changes for UND and the schools in the BSC, MVFC and SL.

It would have an affect, but I don't think it would be a negative on anyone involved except the UND fans who want UND to be in the BSC. It would strengthen the MVFC and make the some western schools very happy in the BSC.

I think if a spot opens UND should take it, and with our upward swing in football it would only strengthen the conference. With Kelley leaving and the nickname issue dead, Douple wouldn't have a problem accepting us, but only if we can get the same deal as USD. No MVFC no deal.

But Drake, UNI, ISU-Red, SIU, ISU-Blue, MSU, WSU, NMSU, and SHSU would in his scenario.

It really doesn't matter. This plan is a pipe dream of SV. He must stay up all night to think of these scenarios. SiouxVolley is obsessed with getting NDSU in the Big Sky. He is trying to think of any possible way that the Summit and MVFC will disolve and NDSU will have no chioce but join the BSC.
