dakotadan Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Tough loss by the ladies today. Just need to start over on a new streak and finish out the season strong. 1 more Great West title before taking over the Big Sky is still a strong possability! Quote

star2city Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Sioux win streak up to 8 and record moves to 20-4. Last two regular season home games coming up on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon against UTPA and HBU. Next year in the Big Sky, volleyball could easily see 1500 or more avg attendance, making it a top 25 draw. http://fs.ncaa.org/D.../2011/vbatt.pdf If a Sioux team plays recognizable opponents and consistently win, it will draw well. dakotadan Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 With Hawaii being the attendance leader in the NCAA going back into the 90's, the WAC will drop WAY down in the conference standings when UH moves to the Big West and the Big West will shoot up alot higher. If UND continues to put the proper resources into volleyball, there is no reason that we couldn't annually be a top 25 team both on the court and and in attendance. Volleyball could turn into a big sports at UND. And volleyball is the type of sport that we can recruit local midwest/north central players and be successful at the national level. Quote
the green team Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Sioux cruised past UTPA last night at home. Coach Hardee emptied his bench early and often. Last night in a battle of other 1 loss teams in the conference- Utah Valley beat Houston Baptist, in Orem. Houston Baptist had previously beaten Utah Valley. HBU comes in on Saturday afternoon to The Betty and now having picked up their 2nd loss in conference play- you just know they are going to play desperate. We've got to come to play so we can set up that showdown with Utah Valley in a week and a half. Hope to see us have a big Saturday afternoon crowd- to again cheer on these ladies who are once again representing the school and state well by having an outstanding season. It's the last home contest before we host the Great West Conference tournament in November. Go Sioux! Beat the Huskies on Saturday! Quote

I really think they could make some waves there. Trefz and Smed will be difficult to replace next year. That said, if UND was in the Big Sky, we'd likely be running away with the conference this year. Utah Valley and Houston Baptist are now both more highly rated than any Big Sky team. Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado have both dropped about 75 spots in the ratings. UNI is currently the #5 team in the country (with Nebraska #2, Iowa State #3, and Minnesota #6), so there's a lot of DI talent in the area (tall Scandinavian girls ) http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/volleyball-women/d1 Quote

They have all been tremendous in different areas. But from what I've seen, the cupboard isn't going to be bare. I like Robinson, she already hits as hard as Smed or Trefz, plus like Smed she'll start in back to dig out a serve or attack. Ulrich has good upside as an outside hitter. Munkeby will have another year under her belt. There are pieces that I'm very encouraged about that we wouldn't see too much of a drop off. But yes, it will be tough to see those seniors move on, because they've really been a part of something special. Quote

It will be interesting to see what kind of recruiting class Hardee will announce in December. When Nikki Husfeldt announced her commitment to UND, the Twin Cities volleyball community was gushing on message boards about what a great pick up she was and seemed surprised she chose UND. They were right about her talent: Husfeldt stepped in and replaced an all-conference starter immediately as a freshman. With the Betty (absolutely perfect for volleyball - few schools can match that facility for the sport), the Big Sky, NCAA eligibility, and Hardee's recruiting ability, perhaps the coming class will have more surprises. dakotadan Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Utah Valley won 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20 over Utah State tonight. They are now 20-8 overall and 8-1 in the GWC. They have 1 non-conference game left as they play Southern Utah on Tuesday before the big UND/UVU matchup next Friday to determine the GWC regular-season champ. Quote

I think there might have been some confusion with the numbers and the schools most likely were mixed up. Someone alert Kolpack. 2 Quote
