Meghan Chayka is her name. Buccigross is weird

It depends on how well he produces.

Yeah, if Cale Makar played two years, I don’t think it is a given that many first round picks are going to be one and dones.

Jost is UND’s only one and done in the last 30 ish years. It would take a huge year for him to leave after one.

Macklin Saskatchewan, good ol prairie town. Reschny will feel right at home in Grand Forks

That is terrible of the Sportsnet Analyst to say.

Cheerleader Canadian media with obvious CHL bias hating on the NCAA. Although I'd need to see the video to get full context

No. 18 Calgary Flames Select: Cole Reschny, C, Victoria Royals

Scouting Report

A cerebral, skilled forward with high-end playmaking ability, Reschny has a fairly high offensive ceiling. His ability to process the game and control the pace of his shifts when the puck is on his stick make him stand out at the junior level. He lacks prototypical NHL size and he’s not a natural burner as a skater, but he moves pucks effectively and decisively. His performance down the stretch of the season and into the World Under-18 Championship put Reschny’s stock on the rise for good reason.

Instant Analysis

The Flames got the player I had ranked No. 15. He is headed to North Dakota next season as one of the biggest names that made the decision to go from the CHL to college hockey after the NCAA rule change. I'd expect he'd spend at least one, but probably two years there. He needs to get stronger, which is a big reason he chose to go there. He is on the smaller side for a center, but Reschny competes on top of having such spectacular skill. His best games were in the playoffs this year, which is always encouraging.

Bukala is a good one up there, he's underestimating how big of the transition it'll be for Reschny. I think Reschny is a 2 year NCAA player at UND, unless he puts up 50+ points as a freshman

Agreed. I just think very few guys are able to leave the NCAA after 1 year and be successful. Outside of the obvious guys. It’s not happening as much as it used to. A lot more 2 year guys. Reschny would have to have a pretty outstanding season to justify 1 year in the NCAA.

Last year, Sacha was taken in the same spot in the draft. He was very inconsistent but was starting to show glimpses of a special college player towards the end of the year. I think Reschny will be similar for us this year. Reschny is a better play driver than Sacha and that will translate to more points, in my opinion. Sacha has that “NHL center” frame and he still needs another year of college.

Calgary was patient with Coronato and had him go back to Harvard for a 2nd year, would think they'll be patient again here. Conroy being an NCAA alum helps. Again, if Reschny has a monster year of 50-60 points and leaves after one season, we'll live with that

Over/under 3.5 commits drafted today?

I feel like Simpson could go higher than expected because of his upside and Laurilla could drop a bit due to the new CBA. I think they both go in the 3rd/4th round.

Over. Predictions for the day:

Laurila: 3rd round

Simpson: 4th round

Schultz: 6th round

O'Neill: 7th round

Wouldn't be surprised if Zakreski sneaks in there in the 7th round. Late 2005 with consistent production jumps in the Dub going the NCAA route. He's the type who'd have zero real chance under the old rules having to jump into pro at 20 or 21 years old, but the longer development curve of the NCAA being an option for him allows for better development.

I think that’s pretty spot on. I think we might see a wild card get picked like Zakreski or Kernan. Kernan was 5th in USHL goals this past year, it wouldn’t shock me if he went in the 7th.

I keep forgetting about Kernan since he hasn't been a commit for that long. I don't think he gets picked because he was under point per game as a 19 year old in the USHL, but the goals are impressive. For him to get drafted, you'd need a regional scout for someone random like the Kings, Hurricanes, Senators, Predators, etc to really like him and believe in the development that he'll undergo at North Dakota.
