  1. Based on what I saw last year Mollberg is the best option with the most potential right now. I like Studsruds potential in a few years, but an ideal scenario would be Mollberg and Bartels take the reigns this year and Studsrud can hopefully get his redshirt back. I have no idea if Mollberg will recovery fully from that injury, but based on last year I like Mollberg. He was really just starting to find his stride when he got hurt and I think he has the best arm of them all. Hopefully Joe can recover 100% by summer workouts and be good to go come fall. Heidlebaugh is coming from Class A football in ND. I love his potential long term, but he needs to redshirt. I know Bubba is really excited about Brad's potential.
  2. I agree that attendance might not look that bad in a smaller arena like that. Plenty of alumni of those schools in the area. Overall I don't think Reno is an awful choice, but I'd prefer Sioux Falls. I'll just leave it at that rather than start that argument up.
  3. I would agree with this. Baseball is a great sport, I feel they can have success here, I feel they can make the NCAA tourney eventually (which all games are on ESPN), they have a very strong alumni base, and they recruit a ton of local talent. To me baseball is low cost high reward sport for UND that should be funded better imo. Shoot they might make the NCAA tourney this year. SDSU and NDSU have shown you can have success in baseball here, no reason UND can't. Plenty of other men's sports should go before baseball if it came to that.
  4. I was wondering about that. I was also thinking recruiting trips to Finland and Germany can't be all that cheap either. Costs a little more than driving to Warroad.
  5. You might be drunken than GFhockey with a post like this. Football with it's 25 conference titles and 1 national championship, Women's BBall with it's 3 national titles, 15 conference titles and 1 NCAA tourney bid, and men's bball with its 18 conference titles, 19 NCAA tourney appearances, 1 NBA Hall of Famer, 4 NBA draft picks might disagree with you saying Women's hockey is the 2nd most succesful team on campus.... Also in the last 4 years MBB has played countless games each year on ESPN, FSN, Fox Sports 1, with just regular season and Big Sky tourney games. Do you know what kind of exposure that gives UND? Also, if they make the NCAA tourney, do you know what kind of exposure that gives UND??? Women's Hockey doesn't even have their National Title game on TV. There are no NCAA tourney games even on TV. The highest attended team in the country averages around 1500 a game. This should be a big red flag for pumping money into that program. There is very little potential for growth with that sport. I'm not saying drop the program, but your post above makes no sense at all.
  6. Oh really that extra amount NDSU is charging for the UND football game won't bring in extra revenue? Also, I heard only teammakers get to purchase single game tickets this year. Funny that happens with the UND game on the schedule. The game sponsorships for that game will sell for double or triple other games. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the UND games the highest priced basketball tickets? NDSU will make a lot more with that game on the schedule than they would've otherwise. Your not very intelligent if you don't see that.
  7. Doubt it, and hopefully WBB will be getting it this year. If they are the only ones in the league Brew will clean up. Not to turn this into a MVFC/Summit vs. Big Sky talk, but with all this FCOA talk going on it makes even more sense for UND and NDSU to be in the same conference anyways. I bet NDSU makes an extra $400,000-$500,000 in tickets/donations this year from the UND - NDSU FB game and if they were in the same conference they and UND would get that every other year, plus a home VB, MBB, and WBB home game every year. Those games would also be conference games so they would mean a whole lot more. That right there could be an extra $600,000-$700,000 every two years in extra ticket revenue with most coming from the football games and the donations and tickets that come with it.
  8. $4,000 (est. COFA) x 188 student athletes = $752,000 Using GFhockeys math with tickets we are already at $750,000. 188 student athletes would be enough for MH (18), MBB (13), FB (63), WBB (13), VB, (13), WHY (18) and then a combination womens soccer, track, softball & golf. Doing this for VB, WBB, FB and MBB would put those programs at the top of the Big Sky conference as far as competitive advantage goes. Pretty soon those programs would would be playing in postseason very frequently and revenue would follow. Back in 2003 a lot people thought NDSU was crazy when they moved to D1 when UND was much better across the board. I say it's time to reverse the trend of UND being a follower and be a leader in this movement. If we are going to end up doing it anyways we might as well get a jump on everyone else.
  9. This isn't a half bad idea or math for that matter. Up various things like ticket prices, donations, etc and you should be able to find 750,000-1 million. I have tickets for everything at UND and will gladly pay it, and so will the others I share them with. In fact if there was a statement from Faison in there saying something like we're doing this and we're going all in with all sports I would be pumped and gladly write the check. Men's hockey and WBB (i assuming it will be this) are fine for this year, but let's have a plan for FB, MBB, etc. All other Dakota/Big Sky schools are going through the same issues, but UND has the biggest athletic budget in the Dakotas..... I agree with others, if UND is proactive instead of reactive they can pull this off if they get creative.
  10. I fully am on board and realize we should be doing this for men's hockey. My points were that because of title IX there needs to be 18 women's COA scholarships and they should go to womens BB first in my opinion and that UND needs to offer this to MBB and football if other area schools do. I am not on board with UND eliminating womens hockey, but I stand by my statement that it looses a ton of money and UND would get much better return on it's investment if it invested less in that and more elsewhere. I also believe UND is well within Title 9 compliance numbers. Much better than most of our competitors.
  11. I would never advocate UND do that, but there is no question it loses ALOT of money and UND could get a much better return on it's $$ elsewhere. Didn't want to turn it into a WBB vs. Whockey debate as I enjoy both and was more concerned about UND doing it for FB and MBB should other area schools do it. I figured WBB getting first priority was a no brainer.
  12. Why does UND need to wait for other schools in WBB? The whole reason UND is doing MHockey is because they bring in the most money. Well WBB does that on the women's side. Their are very very few schools that will do it for women's hockey and women's hockey in particular is a very very niche sport. Not many schools even play it. Plus if the other Dakota school do this for any men's sport WBB will be the first they do it for, we might as well beat them to it. Women's basketball is the 3rd biggest sport in college athletics and UND is a very strong mid major program that draws really good. They should be the first program they do full costs for on the woman's side, and it's not even close in my mind. You can give the remaining 6 spots to woman's hockey but I might even consider volleyball before that. Bigger thought Faison might be having on women's hockey might be if UND dropped that program they could probably fund every sport the cost of attendance. Won't happen but I'm sure that thought has crossed his mind when he looks at numbers.
  13. Article on cost of attendance in the paper today. Faison said UND is paying full cost for 18 men's hockey and 18 women's sports scholarship. Im guessing 13 are going to WBB since I'm assuming it brings in the most money of the women's sports. Smart move to do that. He also said UND isn't looking beyond that because other Big Sky teams aren't. I think He should ask Bubba, Jones, Brew, Pyror, etc who they recruit against more theBig Sky or NDSU, Sdsu, Usd, Omaha, etc. If those schools do it for football and basketball UND needs to.
  14. Congrats to Shay. Guessing Horner gets promoted which is a good move imo. Here's an interesting thought on someone for the ops position. Lucas Moorman (former NDSU player) who runs the ECI AAU program or Jordan Mauer who runs the ND Phenom program AAU program. No idea if either would be options or even interested, but would give the staff tons of local cred with Grabowski and one of those two.
  15. Anyone hear if the staff is on Quinton Hooker's brother Amani Hooker? Looks like he has already been offered by UNI & USD and SDSU NDSU Wyoming and Northern Illinois are showing some interest. I think he is visiting NDSU this weekend. I would think with his brother already on campus in MBB the FB staff would be on him.
  16. Correct, shouldn't have lumped all Bison fans into it. I deleted my previous three posts, including a long one. I've wasted to much energy on this and don't need to read or participate in these types of threads. Much like bringing back the Sioux name they are a complete waste of my time. Go Sioux, Go UND, and Go whatever our new nickname is...time to move on.
  17. This ^^^^ times a million. Love the Sioux name, but for the betterment of UND it's time to move to another name. Things like this is just an example of why no nickname shouldn't be an option. It would just continues to drag out this conflict among fans. Time to move forward with a new name.
  18. Saw you guys offered the St. Cloud St. transfer. He'd be a nice get, but do you take that as a sign Baker and Wright won't be happening for the Jacks? If they are out I see it down to us, USD, and a darkhorse maybe UNO. UNO has done ok in the Twin Cities the last few years. They have 2015 MN MR Basketball JT Gibson going there next year. Not sure if NDSU would try or not....don't think they had interest the first time around.
  19. My hunch would be it's a scholarship kid looking for more PT. What about Ray Dixon? Florida boy, and I think Maurice has a lot of connections in Florida. That's where Hinojosa was from. That's a complete guess.
  20. Fair question....If he's had a run like the last 11 I would be fine with him staying there as I believe he will get one if UND is consistently there. I follow that up with a question to you. What team's success would you rather have below going back 11 years? Duluth 1 national title 5 NCAA tourneys 2 Frozen Fours 1 Conference Tourney Title UND 0 national titles 12 NCAA tourneys 7 Frozen Fours 4 Conference Tourney titles I would rather be in the NCAA tourney every single year and the Frozen four 7 out of 12 years with a chance to win it than be what Duluth has been with one title and only 5 NCAA trips. Even if Hak had a title but only made the NCAAs 5-12 years I would think he should be gone. Instead he has 0 titles, but he consistently has his team in a spot to win. You might answer that by saying look at all Haks resources, well I would argue Duluth's are just as good. A facility that is almost as nice as the ralph, a great city to recruit to, only 2 hours from the Twin Cities, nice campus, great tradition, etc. Duluth is a top ten job in college hockey in my mind and they have been to the NCAAs 5 out of 12 years and 2 frozen fours. At this point in my UND fandom i've seen it all...I've seen National Hockey Titles and I'm just fine where Hak has the program. I think UND fans should be putting more time and effort to getting Bubba in the FCS playoffs and getting our MBB team to the big dance. Those are things I haven't seen that i want to. Hak and the Men's hockey program are the least of my worries.
  21. I still take the overall success the program has had in the last 15 years. We may not have won one, but the team is always there at the end, and that's all one could ask. Some of you might be a little young but there were some lean years in some of those stretches. Lean enough were Men's and Women's basketball was out drawing men's hockey. I have confidence Dave will get one eventually.
  22. Fan of no name, but this whole argument is why UND should move on for the betterment of the school. We are playing in the Frozen Four today and people are talking about the schools name. Pick a name and start marketing/branding it. The people who want to remain nameless will eventually come around. After the last 10 years of this it has gotten old.
  23. The vocal minority is not always the majority. For example when this issue went to a statewide vote, by reading message boards, facebook comments, etc I would've thought people would've voted to keep the name, but it wasn't even a close vote. Not saying you are wrong, but I would caution using things like message boards and social media to get the pulse of the majority on this.
  24. Agreed, and people were excited about him. I am saying coming into UND Baker would be more accomplished than Tillman was. Tillman was a special teams guy and backup and Houston, Baker got a ton of minutes on a very good team that made the NCAAs as a true freshman. We don't even know if he is coming to UND, so lets wait and see but my point was it's ok for fans to be excited about UND landing a talented player like that.....they should be.
