  1. Mentioned in another thread but i'm pretty sure a few of these girls were at the UND vs. NDSU game Saturday in Fargo. Assuming with HS not playing on Wednesdays that Brew will try to have as many of these girls at the UND vs. Minnesota game. What an opportunity to make an impression on a recruit... on your invite to an NDSU game you see UND beat them at home and then 4 days later you get to watch a 7-1ranked Mid Major UND team host the Big 10 Gophers at home. Along with the list above Madison McKeever from Win-e-Mac is probably another local D1 talent. There is enough talent coming up that NDSU is bound to get some of these girls although they did miss on all of the top 15 kids. Brew just needs to make sure he gets the ones he wants the most. Jacobson might be tough as her mom (played) and brother (currently plays) at NDSU. Brews 15 class is really good, and if he can somehow get Jacobson and Two Bears in 16 to UND we could be looking a special group of talent. I think those 2 will probably go to a bigger school though. Anyways, a good opportunity for unofficial visits on Wednesday night.
  2. Made the mistake of checking out the Bisonville thread on this game. Some pretty low blow comments directed at UND. Fans like that ruin what was a very entertaining game to watch and a great win for UND. Rivalry games tend to be close no matter who is better on paper. I actually thought NDSU should have won as Brooke Lemar put them on her back. She is a very good player, maybe best in the Summit. Credit to UND for pulling it out I'm sure the football game had something to do with it but only around 1500 for this game? There were probably 200-300 UND fans there as well. UND got about the same attendance vs. Dickinson State earlier this year. I know NDSU had some recruits there so it would be a great opportunity for Brew and crew to invite those same kids to Wednesdays game against Minnesota and show them a great D1 Women's BBall atmosphere. I don't think HS play on Wednesday. A 7-1 top mid major program hosting a big 10 team would sure leave a lasting impression on a recruit. Betting Brew and staff will have quite a few kids there.
  3. Point was to give people some local kids to keep an eye on and show ones from the area that have recently went D1 (higher than Big Sky level in some cases) or were borderline D1 talents. By miss I didn't mean offer, I meant they missed. Luke Martinez was a All Mountain West caliber player out of Bismarck high, being he was 2-3 hours from campus growing up I would say both UND and NDSU missed the boat on him. All situations and recruiting years are different and I get that, I was just giving people players to watch. Thanks to Balla45 for further updating us and letting us know where UND has specific interest. As for the two at NDSU I would agree with Werner although I don't think UND would've had a chance had they offered (big NDSU fan growing up), but I have tough time thinking UND couldn't use a 6'6 wing who is averaging 10 a game as a freshman on a middle of the pack Summit team. His mom played at NDSU and while UND didn't "offer," I think they possibly could've been told very early on, "don't waste your time, i'm not interested." His sister is also one of the best girls BB players in the state right now and I hope Brewster can pull that out, but i'm guessing it will be tough with the family ties to NDSU. She might go bigger than both though. This probably was the other way with players like Brandon Brekke, and Emily Evers who had strong ties to the UND programs. My glasses are more kelly green, but not green enough to think some kids are sometimes just interested in going NDSU. This also goes the other way like I said. Not trying to argue, but your comment came across like an NDSU fan who thinks they never lose any FB recruits to UND, or when they do they "didn't offer them."
  4. What I meant by this is that the team overall is young when it comes to playing with each other. Enjoy the process of watching them come together. As for everything else this thread is a train wreck. I will maintain that you can either be a part of the solution by donating to the program and attending games or you can be a part of the problem by checking box scores and calling for coaches jobs after every bad loss. IMHO i don't think anyone who doesn't either A. Donate directly to the Athletic program or B. attend Men's Basketball home games should be saying anything about the mbb head coaches job. If you care enough about the program to call someone out like that you should care enough to donate or have your but in the seats at the Betty. I have a feeling even with a new coach the same people would be on here complaining about that one getting fired eventually. Seems like a vicious cycle with certain "fans.". E-mail the AD if you have issues and let the people who are paid to make those decisions worry about it. Support UND and it's student athletes, if changes are necessary they tend to happen, in this case it's not necessary now. And i will save you the trouble, no I did not want to keep Muss. Lastly, as it relates to updates to the Betty....c'mon guys they just built a $750,000 storage space for extra hockey nets. Why would REA invest in something that could bring back ROI like scoreboard and digital scorers table for ad revenue, or locker/weight room renovations for recruits, when we have extra hockey nets and sticks lying around......
  5. it'll will happen one of these years. They have been extremely close and Jones is recruiting really good players into the program. I'll ask are you part of the solution or the problem? Calling for coaches jobs 6 games into a season doesn't help. Support the team by donating to the program or attending games, tell your friends to do the same. Brian Faison has a personal e-mail if you want to voice your displeasure with the coach. Voicing your opinion on here after every bad loss doesn't help the team. If you are a true UND fan take a look in the mirror and think about that. I am not a Jones lover or hater. There are things I think he does well and other things he could improve on but he has done very well IMHO in the first two years of BSC play. If the team is a consistent top 3 conference finishers how can you argue that.
  6. Jade Lawrence is a player, and the type of kid Bubba needs more of. Tough hard nose football player. Get him in the program and worry about position later. RB, FB, S, or LB.
  7. First - everyone needs to take a chill pill on Jones. We are 6 games into a season with a young roster still learning to play together. Enjoy the process of watching a young team come together. Yes Texas Pan Am was bad and so was the 2nd half at Utah but this is a long season. So far other than that I have been impressed with this team considering the scoring we lost. Second - if you expect 20 wins and NCAA or NIT every year you need to either donate more to the program or attend more games because we need more support for those things to happen more frequently. i encourage you to try that before checking box scores and calling for people's jobs. If you aren't part of the solution (support) you are part of the problem (calling for coaches jobs after a bad loss without attending any games or supporting the program). That does no good for a team 6 games into the season. If you attend games and support the program and are calling for peoples jobs i would ask how you think that helps this team get better? I am not calling anyone out that is just my opinion. Third- Does women's hockey seriously fly charter? I hope this is a joke.
  8. On the Red River kids. Of the two Sr. I think Steen might be worth a PWO with his size and being a local kid. Reynolds is very talented and it wouldn't shock me if UND offered something (scholarship) based on fb talent and potential....he is a talent. I know nothing of grades or coaching issues so if those things are there my guess would be we would pass. He plays RB/WR/KR for RR on offense and is all state caliber at all 3 positions. The others are JRs and should be evaluated at camp next summer. Hanson is a really good prospect at WR though and probably the best college prospect of them all. A legit 6'6 WR could be a big time threat after a few years in the weight room. As noted before he is getting BBall looks so it just depends what sport the kid wants to play. He's probably an FCS level FB recruit and a NSIC bball recruit at this time imho. Still only a Jr, so lots of time to develop into a bigger prospect.
  9. One of the best coaching jobs I've ever seen was getting this team to 5-7. With all of the injuries and depth issues I would consider this season a big step forward. I am excited for the future of this program. If we can add depth I think playoffs "could," be in the conversation next year. A long ways away and we need more depth and playmakers but the Big Sky is there for the taking for a smashmouth team which is what we're building. Also hats off to the Sr class. Take pride in establishing the foundation of UND football for the future. Your effort and commitment to UND doesn't go unnoticed. Us Fans and UND Admin need to help Bubba build this for next year......Can't wait!!!
  10. What should the expectations be? IMHO he has been over achieving with what he has. UND should invest more in asst. coach salaries and give the Betty a little facelift. If that were to happen then maybe you could complain. You and your boys work on those things then you can warm up that seat if they aren't up to your standards. Until then just be happy with 4 straight years of post season play and hopefully a 5th this year.
  11. GFHockey, you serious dude?? Game 3, and in the previous 2 years Jones has finished 2nd and 3rd with a limited budget. If anything you should question why UND isn't investing more in BBall when the potential ROI is really good. Not a Jones lover or hater, but I think he has done a good job with the resources he has. My expectations for this year would be making the BSC tourney and hopefully making a postseason tourney beyond that. I think next year is the year we compete for the conference title again. In the meantime I will enjoy watching this year's team continue to improve and you never know, they get to the BSC tourney and anything can happen.
  12. Tough loss, and some tough calls down the stretch, but Frost is a really hard place to go into and get a win. Similar feeling to a few years ago when we outplayed them and they stole one. Positives UND defense is way way ahead of the last few years. Should only improve as the year goes on I really like our guards. Tyler will be a really good scorer, but he’s not as good of PG as the others. Hooker and De Rouren are better PGs. Esten Tyler’s game as built for this offense though, wow can he score. Keep in mind he is not even 100% yet. We also get these guys back next year and add Crandall and Seales. Coleman and Nash are very athletic wings that will be tough match ups for mid majors. Sharing of the basketball. Great in the first half, ok in the second, but still better than previous years. Negatives Did we just burns Sheilds redshirt for that? Where are his minutes going to come from when Shanks is eligible and Salmonson get back? If he was going to play this year why not get his feet wet against Mayville State? SDSU started switching all ball screens and it through us for a loop. We needed to capitalize on those mismatches and we didn’t do it enough Overall I am excited about the season after 3 games. We look really good considering all the scoring we lost. I think this team could potentially be as good as last years or better by years end. Not sure about the rest of the BSC, but I think we’ll be ok.
  13. Anyone going down to SDSU? Thinking I might go and catch USD-SDSU on Saturday following UND-SDSU Fri. Good sports weekend.
  14. Even though we were down 18, I never thought the game was out of reach. Championship teams and coaches can withstand hot shooting runs and I think we have another championship caliber team this year, to go along with a great coach and staff. Scary to think we have Dyer, Szabla, Mia, Knox beyond this year. Strand looks like she could be a dynamic scorer for UND. She has one of the quicker releases on her shot that I have seen, and she looked like a veteran in her home debut. Lastly, Evers is basically unstoppable on the low block. She was actually tripled teamed a few times last night. If she stays out of foul trouble she could be 1st team all league. Excited for the rest of the season!!
  15. If you are going to or watching the Dakota Bowl tomorrow here are some guys to watch. Not sure of UND’s interest level, but these guys are ones to watch. Guessing UNDs staff will be there watching. AAA Game Minot - Sr. LB Zach Danelson, Sr. RB/LB/S Alex Mack, Jr. LB/RB Matthew Marler & Jr. QB. Ben Bolinske Davies - Sr. QB Aidan Hartness (Not a D1 QB in college but maybe another position) Sr. WR Tristan Hartness AA Game Shanley - Sr. RB Tre Fort & S. RB /DB Danny Stasch St. Marys - Sr. LB Noah Krebs & Sr. LB Jacob Schwab Love Kreb’s highlight tape http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3058506/highlights/63287751 (Reminds me of Reinecke, right place kind of guy) The highlight tackle in the Dome won State last year. A Game Park River - Jr. WR Levi Cudmore Killdeer - Sr. RB/DB Lewis Dobitz 9 man Cavalier - Sr. RB/LB Brock Robbins (NDSU commit) & Sr. DL Jeff Stith Shiloh - Have a some nice RBs, but forgot their names, and didn’t feel like looking them up. Probably some i’m missing, but I thought i’d share for everyone so you had guys to keep an eye on.
  16. NLI day today, anything from UND on the recruits? I'd like to hear what Jones has to say about them, and that Seales NLI can't come in fast enough. What a steal he is for UND. McDermott also looks like a shorter version of his cousin who was not very highly recruited either. If memory serves me correct UND was on Doug's short list. If Adam develops to 75% of the player Doug was he'll be an All Conference level kid. Josh Collins has a very high ceiling as well. Played on a team with a ton of D1 kids including Crandall. Expect to look back on him after his high school season and be thankful he signed in the fall. Great job by the staff of putting back the focus on high school kids that can develop over 4-5 years. I don't know much about Drick but he looks like a great athlete and he got time on a decent DU team. Nice job by the staff.
  17. You are correct. By partial I meant scholarship for 1-2 years, walk on for the rest. I think Arvidson might’ve been offered something like that, but Northern had a full. I do not know specifics, but I think if Kretchman would’ve waited UND might’ve offered a full in the spring, but MSUM needed an answer in the fall or they were moving forward. UND hadn’t offered yet at the time, but I think they might’ve eventually based on what i’ve heard. Full rides at Northern State and MSUM are a pretty good deal and both probably made the right decisions. I know NDSU was recruiting both a little as well, but not sure if they were close to offering. All of that is from people I know so take it for what its worth. As for Martinez and McCloud I was just basing that guess off the fact they went to Juco’s out of high school. Just a guess they would’ve chosen a D1 offer over a Juco assuming grades and everything else were in check. And yes I know about Martinez’s troubles, I was just talking about basketball talent. As for D1 vs. D2 I agree to a certain extent, but the NSIC is very good. I watch a lot of NSIC, Summit, and Big Sky and the top guys in the NSIC can play in the Big Sky or Summit. Aaron Lien averaged almost 10 a game on one of the best D2’s in the country last year. If he was at UND he would be a redshirt Fr. and I think he would be getting minutes this year and probably starting next year. I watched both him and AJ Jacobson in high school and Lien isn’t that far behind Jacobson. Anyways, point of the post was to show there has been a little bit of talent in ND/Northwest MN the last few years and there are some guys to keep an eye on that UND and NDSU are both showing "some," interest in.
  18. First time poster who is a big basketball fan. Definitely more of a UND fan, but I enjoy good basketball so I also watch many NDSU games as well. I think North Dakota has some really good underclassmen coming up that both UND/NDSU should be watching. Most of these kids have already been on campuses at one or both schools for unofficial visits. Jones needs to get these kids in for summer camps and evaluate them. Don’t get me wrong the Twin Cities and Iowa need to be priorities #1 and #2 for this staff, but I think they should take a closer look at some ND kids. In the last 5 years UND has missed on Luke Martinez (Wyoming), Joe Hanstad (Boise State), Dexter Werner (NDSU), AJ Jacobson (NDSU), Mack Arvidson (Northern State), Justin McCloud (Illinois State), and Tanner Kretchman (MSUM). I’ll throw Aaron Lien from Moorhead who plays at MSUM on the list as well. Martinez and McCloud could’ve been ours out of high school and Arvidson, Kretchman, and Lien will all have great careers in the NSIC. I believe Arvidson and Kretchman were offered “partials,” although I’m not 100% sure. Those 5 would’ve came to UND, redshirted and contributed by the time they graduated. Martinez in particular would’ve been All Big Sky imho. I don’t think we had a chance at Werner or Jacobson as they were all NDSU. I really like the job Jones is doing, but as a UND fan I think these kids could’ve helped, and recruiting these kids is good PR if nothing else. Houston Lavachek from Glenburn is at Williston State right now and could go D1 too. He reminds me of a less athletic Pat Mitchell. Not completely sold on him, but he still has a redshirt year where UND could bring him in and get him in the weight room for a year before contributing. I should also mention James Richman being a good pickup for UND. Very very under the radar even by ND standards. He played on a bad HS team but is very athletic.I think he tore his ACL last spring or summer so he is not even close to full strength yet. He is a walk on I could see getting minutes in 3-4 years. Here are some guys to keep an eye on. Class of 2016 (HS JRs) Hunter Pinke - 6-5 F from South Border (I think he is Fred Lukens grandkid so you would think we would have an in) I think he has visited NDSU, not sure on UND. Braden Hanson - 6-7 F from Red River - I think he has been on unofficial to both NDSU and UND. Probably a better football recruit as he was one of the better football players in the EDC this year. These two are both young, but right now I would say they are scholarship NSIC guys and potential D1 walk-ons who could develop more by next summer. Class of 2017 (HS Soph) Aanan Moody - 6-2 G from Dickinson - Unofficial to both schools, and brother plays FB at NDSU and sister plays VB. NDSU probably has an in there I would think Siman Sem - 6-2 G from Fargo North - Been to NDSU I know, not sure if UND is involved or not. Jacob Mertens - 6-2 G from Devils Lake - Brother or cousin to Travis. Not sure how involved UND is but he is a young player to watch. Wyatt Carr - 6-3 G/F from Hazen - Don’t think either school is on him, but he could be one to watch. Probably one of the top football recruits in that class though. Baylee Carr’s brother. Moody and Sem are decent prospects and the other two are probably just ones to watch at this point. Class of 2018 DeSean Eikens - 6-4 F from Williston - I think both UND and NDSU are in contact. He is the best D1 prospect of them all. I think he will go bigger than both by the time he graduates, but they need to be on him now. There might be a few i’m missing so someone can let me know if I’m missing someone, but UND needs to get these kids to camps the next few summers and evaluate them, so we don’t miss out on guys like Luke Martinez and Justin McCloud when we could’ve easily had them out of high school. I can tell you Dave Richman will be doing this and is already doing a good job of building those ND relationships. Like I said if nothing else it is good PR and I think coach Richman gets that. Again, Twin Cities and Iowa should be the big priorities, but we can't let ND scholarship kids slip away. I follow ND football close to and will post on some of those potential recruits when I get some time in the future. Sorry for the long post, but I thought it was good info for UND and even NDSU hoop fans
