Seen very little, but from the little I have this is a offer based on potential. The young man is extremely extremely athletic and has a ton of upside. I guess if I was NDSU I would've held off until after this winter season to maybe offer because their aren't a lot of outside D1 schools that come into ND so you kind of can wait a little on local talent. They obviously saw something they liked and wanted to lock him up. It will be interesting to see if more D1s start coming into the state to check kids out. With Eikens in the state and playing AAU locally with other ND kids their will be plenty of D1 eyes on local talent the next few years. Might be smart to get on them earlier, so you can't knock NDSU for locking him up.

First of a couple ND D1 kids in the next few years IMO. Not sure of UNDs interest, but hats off to Richman he's recruiting ND kids and having success with them.

Thought this might be a great place for this. A great read about Eastern Washington and why Football and Basketball success matters.....record enrollments for multiple years in a row. http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2015/may/19/ewus-athletic-dominance-builds-statewide-image/ I look at North Dakota and I see the same thing. NDSU's success in BB and FB are giving them tons and tons of exposure and cred around the state and in a year or two they'll be kicking UNDs tail in enrollment if they aren't already......be interested to see what FR and Soph classes sizes are at each school. This is why UND NEEDS to invest in FB and BB. GF might be a hockey town, but ND is a football and basketball state. MN claims to be the state of hockey but there are still way more kids that play football and basketball by large numbers. Winning on Saturdays in the fall and on the hardwood in March are what makes winning athletic departments and Universities. If UND can turn FB and BB in D1 winners there is no doubt in my mind UND will see a jump in $ and enrollment numbers because of it. I think this is what UND-FB Fan was getting at. Sometimes you need to spend money to make money and if UND spent more in those areas they might make more. If UND has one of the best hockey programs in the country a consistent playoff FB team and a BB team that makes the NCAAs every 2-3 years the athletic department and University will reach heights never seen before.

The Betty Needs a Video Board (or two)
nodakhoops replied to niouxsiouxfan's topic in Men's Basketball
Love the Betty as well and it's size. Things I think could improve it though and make it a top notch mid major facility would be. Videoboard Digital Scorers table More Tradition highlights around the arena like the one in the front lobby More Club seating options (Maybe a nice endzone bar like REA has on the upper level on both ends) 3-4 luxury suites attached practice facility with 3 courts (Could do permanent seating on the ends if UND had this) I don't think the price tag to do all that would be that much and I think you would see ROI fairly quick from Suite Sales, Club Season Tickets, Videoboard and scoreboard advertising. -

Fully agree and that should be priority number 1 2 and 3 as it benefits everyone like you mentioned. I also don't think that should prevent them from putting together a long term plan with REA though for the Betty. For somewhere in the range of 7-8 million you could probably make a lot of things happen and the nice thing about the Betty is you can get it started without 100% of the funds because it is privately owned. -
I think Mike Duginski and Matt Bye have both been mentioned already, but the Moorhead Spuds have a bunch of kids getting pretty good recruiting attention this year. With the signing of Lawrence last year and having some good connections to Moorhead on our staff my guess is UND is on most of these kids. Moorhead FB Recruits (2016) Matt Bye QB Mike Duginski - RB, DB Devante Delbrune - DB Malique Delbrune - DB Nate Stitch - LB

University of Jamestown just got a nice gift to kick start a campaign for a new basketball arena. Congrats to the Jimmies. http://www.jimmieathletics.com/article/2433.php Lets see..... NDSU - new arena and practice facility USD - new arena and practice facility SDSU - Renovating Frost Arena Jamestown College - Fundraising for a brand new arena (No timetable for construction) -
Two names I wouldn't mind seeing get a look for a UND assistant job would be Erik Fabian or Karl Goerhing. Either would be a great fit. Karl already works with the program but not full time and Fabian is an assistant for the UND women. Seems like they could plug right in.

Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
nodakhoops replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
Posted these names in the other thread. UNDs open record search could stop some candidates from applying..... remember the football search. Top Choices Dave Tippett Why don't we steal one back from the NHL? Enrico Blasi ( I know this guy doesn't have UND connections but he is a fantastic coach. Not sure if he could be taken from Miami but Faison should give him a call.) Sandelin Jackson Berry Next Tier Eades Blais (Not sure how many years he has left) Darkhorses Frank Serratore Mike Hastings Gwoz Mike Eaves -
Some of you are forgetting UND's open records hiring process. Anyone who applies will have their name in the paper right away. This might hurt UND from getting certain candidates to apply. I know that was the case with the football search. Anyone who is a current head coach in college will probably be very sceptical of applying unless they think they can get the job based on how it could effect their current job. Here are some names for everyone. Top Choices Dave Tippett Why don't we steal one back from the NHL? Enrico Blasi ( I know this guy doesn't have UND connections but he is a fantastic coach. Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
nodakhoops replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
Sad and happy day for UND fans. Sad that we are losing a great coach and one of the best we've ever had. Happy that one of our own is going to be the head coach for one of the most storied organizations in the NHL. Head coach for the Philadelphia Flyers is a very big deal. Congrats to Hak, you will be missed at UND. -
10.51 100 would put him into Dressler territory. Having said that big difference between track and football speed. Chappell and Dressler had both as well as change of direction stop and go speed. Smith looks like a great pick up and I can't wait to see him play for UND, but i'll wait to see him on the field before saying Dressler, Chappell, or Hardin speed.

Early in the AAU season, but from the reports i've seen Hanson, Moody, Carr, Sem, and Eikens are having nice AAU seasons. Simon Sem has already been offered by NDSU too. Anyone else who watches AAU closely can chime in, but i've gathered that from a few reports i've seen online. Another name to keep an eye on might be 6'5 Austin Slaughter (2017) from Red River. I noticed he is playing for Howard Pulley AAU in the Twin Cities which is one of the top AAU programs in MN. He plays on the same team as Tre Jones (Tyus' brother). Not sure how he's doing, but not many ND kids get the chance to play for Pulley.

FYI, I believe Dahl is up to 7-8 NSIC offers and from most of the top programs like Augie, MSUM, etc. Also, a lot of D1s are showing interest including UND. Been too many local kids UND let go NSIC the last 3-4 years that could've helped UNDs team. IMO, Dahl will have D1 offers by the time fall comes around and we should try to be the first D1 offer and get this kid on board at UND. If we're the 4-5 D1 to offer that probably won't cut it. He lives an hour from from campus and we should be the first ones on him.

The Betty Needs a Video Board (or two)
nodakhoops replied to niouxsiouxfan's topic in Men's Basketball
Great to hear on the sound system. It would've been cool if they had multiple floor designs and let the fans vote on them, or had fans come up with designs. Moorhead State did that with their football field and basketball court and that was cool. Maybe video boards are coming, too. With UNI and NDSU coming you'll probably have 2 sell outs in the Betty. What a better way to impress all of those new fans and try to keep them coming back than with a new video board sound system and court design. I won't get my hopes up, but I thought with all the upgrades maybe they were starting to think putting more money in the Betty is a good idea. -
Saying this process is to long and saying Forum Comm is being hypocritical is this instance is like saying grass is green and the sky is blue. Don't think you could really argue either.
-
Agreed. I'm in favor of BB in the Ralph if they make a consistent effort and play the majority of games there, but if not play these games in the Betty.
-
Different UNI program I would argue as they were a Top Ten team last year and might be ranked when they come next year. That's a pretty big deal. UND could also do something special that night and honor some of UND's teams from the early 1990s with Jake on it.

Looks like the herald sports guys each wrote articles on this. I don't want to rip Schlossman's but his article could've been confused for a hockey only fan letter to the editor. Big picture Brad, people will move on. Tom and Wayne seem to understand that in their articles. take the breezers off before the next nickname article maybe. I've said before I would like to stay no nickname and unofficially be the Sioux but in my heart and brain I know that is not what is best for the school. Go with no nickname and this same hampster wheel keeps going in 3-5 year increments. Change the name and people will move on, some faster than others but eventually all will move on and someday we'll all be gone and a new generation will only know one name. The article says going no nickname will put and end to the in house bickering and arguing and I would actually argue that picking a name will eventually do that. Not Brads most thought out work imho. I liked Millers take on the Roughneck name. Think it could be kind of cool and unique.
-
Thanks for the info Jim. Great logic by UND........these ones are to popular so let's pick the least popular because there are more domain options.....yikes. Also just read the herald article and Karl does say the vote will be open to everyone.......what a complete joke. Just wait for that vote, this is going to get ALL OVER the Internet. I'm sure glad Kelly wants to be that inclusive where the whole country can vote on our schools nickname. There will end up being more people with no connection to UND voting on the name than people with a connection after deadspin and all the other sites pick it up. As a supporter I am not to thrilled about that idea.
-
I'd like to hear more why Roughriders wasn't chosen. It was obviously a top choice and I have to think it's more than just a domain name thing as there are lots of different domain names you can choose. I also hope the releasing of these names and the Internet mess it created shows UND just how dumb opening the vote up to the mass public would be. I maintain the vote should be made by students, alumni, donors, season ticket holders, champions club members and that's it. If you aren't on that list donate $10 and become a donor. If UND opens this vote up to the general public get ready for an even bigger embrassment than this was...

CB Malik Rucker from the Twin Cities is transferring from Iowa. The previous staff offered him, and I wonder if Bubba will go after him. Seems like he would be a great CB addition. Not 100% sure but I think him and Taj Rich might be close.
-
Wonder if the Baker signing and all of the Twin Cities kids on the roster help with these two and Peterson. Those 3 would be my top guys in this class of the ones we offered so far. Wouldn't mind taking a hard look at guys like Allen Anderson (Aaron's bro), or the local 6'7 guys Cole Dahl and Braeden Hanson as well. Those 3 already have NSIC offers and would be nice projects to redshirt and develop for a year. I think we'll only have 2-3 scholarships so it will be interesting to see how that shakes out. If we only have 2-3 Miller, Jackson, and Peterson would be at the top of my list. That's a lot of guards, but UND plays 3 guards and guys like Josh Collins and Jamil Jackson can probably play a little stretch 4 in UNDs offense and the Big Sky. Nice job by the staff in making UND a big destination for top Twin Cities talent. Wonder if UNDs TV deal with FSN North is helping with these kids as well?
-
Big time get. Wheeler is a proven guy at the NCAA level and a big name in the Twin Cities. Our backcourt in 2 seasons will have 4 guys that are all conference type talents in Hooker, Crandall, Seales, and Baker. Going to be fun watching the young guys develop next year and hopefully position themselves nicely for 16-17 which should be the most talent UND has ever had on the BBall court on paper.

2016 could be a big year for linemen in ND. I think the following guys are all on the D1 radar. Wyoming is even taking a look at a few of them I think. A lot of talent in the smaller towns. Hopefully some end up at UND and we get another Barton, Cieslak, or Grady. I have know doubt Bubba will find the talent in ND. Quinn Alo and Tyson Lytle are two big linemen that have already been mentioned but here are some more. Karson Schoening - 6'5 280 - Rolla Jay Gunville - 6'3 250 - De Lacs Burlington Brayden Thomas - 6'3 220 - maybe an olb at UND (reminds me of Stanley Jones from Bismarck now playing DE at NDSU) Zack Kubas - 6'5 - 260 - Dickinson Trinity Cordell Volson - 6'7 - 250 - Drake Anamoose - Bro plays at NDSU Michael Kelly - 6'4 280 - Oakes - Big time HS wrestler and a big time FB talent as well Dustin Weeks - 6'9 250 - Glenburn - Moves really well for his height and at 6'9 he has a ton of room to grow into that frame after a few years with S&C. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of those names on UND or NDSUs signing day classes next year. UND could really add some North Dakota beef this year. Go get em Bubba
