    Starting QB

I loved Grover when I watched practice last week. I thought if he’s the fourth string QB this team is in great shape.

If people knew how much he was hurt in the NAU game in 2016 his name would be forever remembered by UND football fans. He couldn't lift his arm over his head in the second half yet he led them down 21 midway through the third quarter to the Big Sky championship. I'm not going to go into medical detail on a public forum but suffice it to say he knowingly potentially sacrificed the remainder of his career that day and led UND to its most memorable win of the D1 era.

I am worried about the reaction of some of the posters on this site if we lose the Sam Houston game. Too many people here seem to think that this is THE game that will set the tone for the season, and if we lose the game than all hope is lost for the year. Can the Hawks win? Absolutely. But be realistic about the chances. Losing the game does not mean the end of the season, or end of our playoff hopes.
  4. Where is a listing of dates and times for fall practices? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the report, Longtime Fan. What scrimmage did you watch? Did you go to a practice?

So I'm gathering people don't like the play calling?

Agree with a lot of this. I am hoping that the frustrating play calling takes a quantum leap this year. For some reason I have faith that it will begin to head in that direction. One of the problems is blaming too many of the issues on one factor. If John breaks off a big run the narrative is “John is awesome,” and not giving credit to the playcall or the OL. Conversely if he’s stuffed at the line the play call sucked and the OL sucked. Football is the ultimate team game and all parts must be working together to succeed. While I agree with everyone that I’d like to see the play calling change, too much blame and credit can be funneled to play calling at times.
  8. Blair's issues with gaining weight isn't UND's fault (or Blair's, for that matter). Both parties have worked at it. As said above, he's an anomaly. Although there has finally been a correction and you'll see a heavier Bryce in the fall.

My apologies for the vague post, but I’m not able to answer all of your questions nor am I am willing to publically answer the ones I can.

The football program continues to be underfunded. I’m not talking about rings or phase II, I’m talking about day to day operations.
  11. Exactly. I’m not embarrassed. I’m embarrassed for you. If some of you left the bubble you’d see what others think about it - you look ridiculous. Hey listen, I understand and agree with being mad at the NCAA, missing the old nickname, and thinking the new nickname and logs are dumb, but to waste even an ounce of energy on something that will not change is, from the outside, a complete waste of time of time and energy.
  12. 100% correct. Its truly absurd that people still care so much about the nickname change. It’s embarassing.
  13. When most of the current UND o lineman were recruited there was post after post about them being nasty pancake machines.
  14. Shep I appreciate your thoughts. Is it possible you are confusing Rooney and Aplin? Rooney is listed as 6’3”, Aplin at 5’11”. My main takeaway with the Spring Game is that it needs to be more of a fun, festive EVENT. While a practice shouldn’t be sacrificed as they only get 15 each spring, the top priorities should be the recruits and the fans. Make the atmosphere as fun as possible. I know that speakers are part of Phase 2, but adding fun music, the Aleris announcer for play by play, bringing fans onto the field for the field goal drills at the end to try to freeze the kicker, a student vs. player 40 yard dash competition, encouraging fans to pick sides and cheer for the OL/DL one on ones.... lots of possibilities. If I were a recruit at this game I’d have said “boring.” See what can be done to make this game “lit.” As a fan it would have been nice to have had Bubba get on the mic to thank everyone for their support and encourage them to support the team in the fall.
  15. Except for Kevin Camy, a recent OL transfer who didn’t last a year, I love your post and I hope Wesley becomes all conference too.
  16. I guess the nine other people who upvoted 1983’s comment are sensitive and lacking fortitude today too, huh?
  17. That's not encouraging.
  18. I think we all know that the staff has desperately been trying to find a starter at tackle in JUCO or transfer. Looks like the found someone to whom they were willing to commit. Hopefully he’s a plug and play starter. A lot hinges on that tackle spot... if they get it nailed down I see an improved OL this year.
  19. Brad has always been a scholarship player.

  21. Outstanding work. Thank you for your efforts!
  22. Good catch jdub. Yeah, hard to know what went down with that situation. Either way it’s great to have him at UND.
