  1. I think Blubaugh took a major leap last year. I'm encouraged by our two starters. Holm has all conference ability and showed it often last year.
  2. Not really. No player left when Knauf got fired, no one is leaving with Gigli leaving, no one left when Marty Rogers or Kevin Maurice left, etc.
  3. Take it to the NDSU thread. This is a UND recruiting thread.
  4. Please. Please. In fact, it would be great is NDSU fans could only post in NDSU related threads all together.
  5. Good reply. There are so many factors when choosing a college... playing, winning, connection with coaches, major, connections with players, feel of the campus, what your parents advise you to do... there is no right or wrong reason to pick a school, and everyone's priorities are different. He's got two great options on the table - lucky kid - that have different strengths and weaknesses. I hope it's UND, but I hope no one knocks him if he chooses differently.

    360 guys confirm Gigli’s departure.
  7. Iowa's record should have no bearing whatsoever on whether or not he is qualified. All I know is that Iowa pumps out top of the line offensive lineman year in and year out. I like the fact that he played a lot of college football at NIU and learned for 3 years at an OL factory like Iowa. I hope he's our guy. The interview will hinge not only on being an OL coach, but also his theories on being a running game coordinator and how that meshes with Danny's offensive style, so that will likely make the difference in interviews for who gets the job.
  8. I may be in the minority but our logo has grown on me to the point that I think it's great.
  9. It makes zero difference if he gets to UND tomorrow, in two weeks, or in a month. It doesn’t impact recruiting, and they can’t yet coach by NCAA rules, so it’s to Danny’s advantage to take his time and get a guy he feels comfortable with.
  10. As mentioned their goal was to get someone in by Christmas. It is not taking longer than they had planned.
  11. nd1su fan is exactly right. It's a bummer to lose the QB they wanted - no reason to bash him now that he's decommitted - but as the 360 guys have correctly pointed out, this class is closing strong. Their last 3 verbals are very good gets.
  12. Their original plan was to have someone in place by Christmas, so they are still on schedule. It's possible the the new OL coach will have additional responsibilities.

I’d consider it if I were them.

Last year was Jefferies first year playing OL, I believe. All but no chance that anyone walks in and starts at OL with zero experience no matter their physical gifts.
  15. I watched Luke Herzog's film. He's another good pickup. UND 360's comparison to Palmborg is excellent. Tough, good football instincts, doesn't give up on plays, looks to have above average speed.
  16. London has good looking film (which is from his JR year).... speed, size (in width, not height as he's 5'9", 205), and cutting ability. I'd be surprised if he's not immediately in the rotation. He's a big pickup at a position of need. From his Gopher bio: HIGH SCHOOL: Attended East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minn. • wore No. 28 for the Raptors • rushed 610 times for 3,916 yards and 41 touchdowns in his career • participated in the 2016 MFCA All-Star football game • as a junior, rushed for 2,211 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging 170.1 yards per game • named the East-Metro Player of the Year and earned First Team All-State honors • a three-star recruit by Scout, 247, and ESPN and a two-star recruit by Rivals • Scout ranked him as the No. 1 running back in Minnesota, No. 13 back in the Midwest and at No. 80 in the nation • ESPN listed him as the No. 2 recruit in Minnesota, while 247 Sports had him at No. 4 • 247 Sports tabbed him as the No. 42 prospect at his position, while ESPN had him at No. 72 • coached by Dan Fritze. PERSONAL: Son of Steve and Jennie Brinson • has three brothers (Jaylen and Marcus) and one sister (Ari) • sister, Ari, played basketball at Concordia University, St. Paul.
  17. Lodging, meals, and transportation are covered.
  18. Yep, got it the first few times. Grow up.
  19. Thank you, Kap. That’s at least the third time he posted that. It was uncool the first time.
  20. This is, perhaps, the biggest point of all. We have to assume there is a finite amount of money out there, both in the athletic department and with the boosters. I’d be stunned if money is allocated to buy out Bubba’s contract. Can you imagine the optics of that? They cut multiple sports then buy out three years of the head football coaches contract? It would look awful, and perception counts. I’d rather ask donors for money for Phase 2, increasing the recruiting budget, etc. If Chavez wants to tell some of the assistant coaches to hit the road that’s one thing, but buying out the head coach is too much of a financial commitment for my taste.
  21. Great to see Fiedler recognized for his contributions to the run game. He was underutilized in the pass game but bought in and was a strong asset in the run game. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4526584-und-senior-luke-fiedler-unsung-hero-hawks-strong-run-game
  22. BTW - I'm not related to Steiner (if it matters). :)
  23. I have admiration for all players that stick it out for 4-5 years. The time commitment for these kids is jaw dropping, and most of their time is spent working their asses off. The amount of actual fun is so small compared to the amount of time invested. It's a grind. While of course I admire the players that have had the opportunity to play - lots of them have been mentioned in this thread - I especially admire the guys who worked their way up from PWO to become scholarship players such as Palmborg and Aplin (I'm sure there are others; please post them if so). That kind of drive and work ethic will serve them well throughout their lives. I also really admire the players that stick it out even though they rarely play. Everyone rightly talks about Santiago, Tank, Olivera, etc., but imagine putting in that work - that grind, all those hours - without being a consistent contributor? That brings me to Adam Steiner. Despite rarely playing that kid is so admired by his teammates that he was voted a captain. That is an incredible accomplishment and speaks to his character. Every successful program needs kids like him and it is a major loss when they leave. My hat is off to you, Adam Steiner, thank you for your contribution to UND football.

Helgren is healthy, it was a coaching decision to start Nate Nyugon.
