Ranking the sports on university campuses relative to TV exposure and ratings....1) football 2) basketball...after that you'd have to ask the networks....I would guess baseball,,track and field, softball, and perhaps wrestling rank above hockey. Nationally.... Hockey probably on a par with lacrosse...and women's hockey.....would barely register....the only time the US gets excited about amateur hockey....is once every 4 years ..at Olympic time....and now the pros have taken that over.....I have a friend who teaches @ASU.....didn't know the Sun Devils had a hockey team.....and he follows their FB , BB, baseball and softball teams....so is not a sports black hole!!!!! Check out press coverage in Minnesota relative to Gopher sports....where does hockey rank ...even "in the state of......"?????

Oh, I lost my mind....in keeping with the theme of this site...I must repeat 3 times before commenting..."UND has the greatest coaches, the greatest athletes, provides the greatest education, had the greatest nickname and logo, and the most loyal , OBJECTIVE...and supprtive fans of any university in the nation and never raise issue with any of the aforementioned" What was I thinking???

Local talent????? Really.....????? There's not enough of that....especially in ND....MN women have many in state programs...equal or superior to UND....Look at female rosters of UMD, Bemidji State, and ST. Cloud State....they are UND's competition for female talent....

I know a woman who plays on this Fighting Hawks women's hockey team....she works very hard and is dedicated to her sport...as are all athletes at the D1 level...no one denies their dedication and effort...however,,let's take ND as an example....I would venture there are more individual high school athletes in baseball ...softball...and perhaps soccer...than participate in girls hockey...yet those sports are...or are considering to be cut...so not only is it financial, but popularity of the sport..that deserves consideration.....on merit ..not politics...

One obvious cut with close to 2 million dollar budget....now it better be about finances and not politics....OR Kennedy has 'no stones'!!!!

Regarding Rousemiller...doubt if track was the deciding factor....probably the facts 1) to play in his home metro area where family and friends can easily watch him play, 2) to.play for his home state school, and 3) to play for the new OL coach who just left Ohio State and has a great resume building and molding good OL's.....Just maybe this!!!!!

The elephant in the room is women's hockey...a money loser....so is potential conference move about finances or politics....Big Sky can encompass all UND sports, whereas, Summit/MV would both have to accept us....people,are warming to Big Sky rivalries...and would think a better sell for recruiting.... Cutting that one big financial loser would solve a lot of the budget issues...not all, but most....let's see if Kennedy will put on his 'big boy pants'....and not bow to the 5-600 women's hockey fans....and the couple media promoting "ockey!!!!!

Flyers lose.....I'm not trolling....but post game wrap on tv indicated the Philly fans and press may be "on the coach" if they continue their losing ways after the break...Not Hextal as he and the coach are buds...but Philly in an unforgiving sports town....Go Wild....beat the Hawks....

Legislature will deal with 'fluff' and ridiculous issues....but then pass a budget bill late at night of the last day....and go home....it's their modus operendi. !!!!!!

Reynolds from West Fargo followed his dream to play at his highest potential level as a walk on at UND foregoing scholarship at D2 schools....same with Rosenmiller...will he accept a walk on for the opportunity to play at the highest level or accept scholarship money at UND...personal choice for both young men....Comes down to,what's in their heart...if either asked my counsel....which they won't...it would be. "Shoot for your highest potential...you can always drop,down"..,.JJ is good,local example

Great to see Fighting Hawk staff pick up PWO's...and let them develop and "coach 'em up"....Nebraska has made great use of walk on's....usually kids from small NE communities...some from 9 man programs...who had talent, but lacked top notch competition and weight training....good for UND to practice same.....

Dear Bemidj Bang....I didn't mention Fighting Hawk hockey....just said ...."glad Flyers lost'. I like hockey...Hope Bemidji State does well....Hope UMD does well...Hope Fighting Hawks do well.....what I,don't like is winning with arrogance.....Exhibiting confidence is fine....but you can demonstrate confidence with a touch of humility !!!!!! Brad Berry seems like he's cut with the same cloth as Bubba... I have a friend from Philly....their media and fans are not a patient lot!!!!!

Recruiting on the upswing with Bubba and staff...will be interesting to see how they integrate JJ into the offense!!! First thing I check on this site is football and/or recruiting news.....Wild did not play last night, but Flyers lost....so a good NHL night nonetheless !!!!!

Every morning I go to the ESPN site to check for sports news....across the top are NFL, MLB, NBA, NCAA FB/BB, soccer.....no NHL...so I hit other...and there is the NHL, and about 20 other selections to include tennis, lacrosse , even the special Olympics....but no NCAA hockey....or as even Ice Hockey....tell me it's more than a niche sport in the US....where does it rank with BIG TEN Schools.?..only important at places like RIT, Union, Quinnipeac, UND and such schools of higher learning.... Great to see UND doing well in the NCAA "mainstream sports"

Devils Lake high dropped Satan nickname as it offended some Christian groups..Wahpeton high dropped Wops...this typr of shirt is certainly offensive to Native Americans, as were some shirts I saw back in the 80's depicting acts between a Bison and a cartoon of an Indian...at Memorial Stadium @ NDSU /UND football games... we need to start somewhere to restore dignity and civility.....UND changing name and logo is a start...it'll take time, but will happen...many of a certain age don't remember GFC Redskins!!!!!

Went to Bisonville blog to get their takes on UND gaining entry into MV...some ' hate ' any mention of UND...most don't have much of a problem with it....What I did find interesting was from one Bison fan who listened to UND/Minny hockey broadcast "Hockey announcers are well schooled, not once used the term Fighting Hawks"....is this true? FB radio crew uses FH all the time....I watched hockey games on FSN and they used FH also.... Sad, if true....only reason UND series renewed with Minny is because of name change...I remember t shirts of Native American cartoon character with feathered headdress and war paint having sex with a Bison..saw them at UND/NDSU football game... Using name wth respect, huh !!! Walk in a person'shoes, before passing judgement......good for all to consider/remember...

Holy freaking Cross...nice grasping at something..to hang on to...face it...Gophers outplayed UND on Friday...but settled for a tie...Fighting Hawks outplayed MN on Saturday but ran into a hot goalie...that's it. Drop the Holy freakin' Cross references...Great to have rivalry back...remember why it was terminated? go Fighting Hawks...

Would be great just to talk about the game, but some go over the top.....I know this is a 'pro' UND blog....but some fans get a little 'full of themselves'...and take unjustified shots at opponents....and their fans...My point is that on Gopher blogs, much more interest in the Gopher-Purdue football game tomorrow...Gopher hockey is not a"passion" for UMN fans...but IS for UND..followers...Factoid!!!!!

Good crowds to be sure, but with so many UND grads having to leave North Dakota to earn a decent wage, many migrate to the Twin Cities...Still a bigger deal to the smaller, less... prestigious school.... UND hockey egos rival that of Bison football.....

Where does hockey rank in terms of fan interest for Gopher fans.... FB and MBB clearly on top. If you follow Gopher Hole, Gopher Illustrated and The Daily Gopher blogs, hockey perhaps behind WBB, VB, baseball and for some seasons wrestling. I know UND thinks MN their top rival...big Gopher rival as well, but not TOP, they'd say one of their BigTen rivals perhaps top. In hockey, their in state battles with Duluth and St Cloud come to mind...UND a long standing rival in hockey to be sue, but biggest?????
