  1. Yes the guy who started shouting obscenities loud enough for the camera to pick up is throwing a fit. Yes the guy that stays over there long enough for the benches to clear because someone had the audacity to jog to first base was throwing a fit. So did Gomez. Gomez threw a bigger fit. That doesn't change my opinion of Cole and his sanctimonious protector of the game whiny bull$%!#.
  2. Borrow from state advertising the North Dakota Legendary But in all seriousness, there won't be a nickname that anyone that grew up with the Sioux or attended UND when we were the Sioux will be happy with the nickname. The best that can be hoped for is that a new nickname is found that a new generation will be able to get behind while growing up with it. Also hopefully it isn't some generic bird name like Miami (Oh.), Dickinson State, or Devils Lake got stuck with.
  3. I'm sure Gomez wouldn't take it very well and I would be just as critical of him, but he hasn't thrown a fit because somebody gave him a choke sign or whatever hypothetical you want to come up with. Cole has thrown a fit because of a taunt. I'm not saying what I am saying to defend Gomez. I'm saying it to call out Cole. If Cole can handle a little bit of taunting then nothing happens.
  4. And I would have done my best to strike him out the next time he was up instead of letting a great base runner on base for free and hurt my team's chance at winning to put a band-aide on my pride...
  5. First of all, all that happened was he thought he hit a home run and flipped the bat and started a home run trot (happens with many home runs). Besides that, what is wrong with a slow home run trot, doing a bat toss, or preening for the crowd? The only thing hurt by that is the pitcher's pride. Is it also wrong for a goal scorer to celebrate in hockey or soccer or a guy who scores a touchdown to celebrate? I see nothing wrong with celebrating even if it's at the other team's expense. If the pitcher can't handle a little show boating then that is his problem and I think it's being a whiny little baby to start shouting at a guy because he got the better of you. So yes, go ahead and run around the bases at whatever pace you want, flip the bat if you want, and pose for the cameras. No harm done unless the pitcher's psyche is too fragile for a little taunting.
  6. Never threw his helmet at the pitcher. Just watched it again and come to the same conclusion. Nothing happens if Cole isn't a whiny little baby. Russell Martin also seems to be an idiot and caused the escalation to punches being thrown.
  7. We went 2-2-2 against a group that included the worst non Huntsville team in the WCHA, the team that looked like the worst one in Hockey East, and a bottom half ECAC team. We were blown out 4 times. Add that to the fact that this team was more boring than most teams we had in previous years due to the fact we had no superstar forwards and no big hitters. These all combine to form an abnormal Sioux team. The weirdest thing for me this year was how easy it was to get good seats in the student section. Last year I showed up at door opening because that was the only way to get good upper bowl seats. This year I showed up 15-20 minutes before each game and got good seats up there.
  8. I'm not sure if BU would really claim Coyle either. Didn't he bolt on them in the middle of a season kind of like Tambellini? I would never consider tambellini to be anything other than a quitter.
  9. Agreed Siouxman. A ref that doesn't make a call just because it's the playoffs is just as bad as a ref that assesses a penalty when it didn't occur. If it's a penalty in the first period of the first game then it is still a penalty in the last minute of a game 7
  10. And I agree that what Gomez did is pretty bush league. It just doesn't annoy me as much as how cole reacted.
  11. I don't watch basketball because I think the last minute of basketball is the most boring thing in sports. I would rather watch bowling or nascar. Baseball is really the only sport I watch on tv. I watch some nhl and all Sioux games I can. Being cocky can bite you in the butt and that line out made Gomez look stupid. At least he still hit the ball hard. There is no silver lining for Cole. He just looks like a whiny little baby that can't handle when someone gets the better of him. I guess my opinion is put up or shut up. If someone gets the better of you and gets a triple even though he did a batt flip and walked out of the box, then your only option is to get the better of him next time. Yelling at someone for being cocky right after he crushed a pitch off you just makes you look stupid and whiny.
  12. I've seen the line out. If cole were to celebrate like that good for him. If Gomez whined about it then I would call him a whiny baby. The only way to get back at someone that just beat you is to beat them the next time they are up to bat, not crying that the big bad meanie had the balls to show some emotion and celebrate a little. I love baseball but it has a bad reputation of being boring. The length is the biggest problem, but people throwing fits when players like Puig or Gomez don't act like robots on the field isn't doing anything to help it.
  13. Pitchers fault completely. Grow a pair of balls and don't act like a whiny little bitch if someone takes you off the wall to the deepest part of the park. Gomez didn't react well after the pitcher threw his fit but this never happens if the pitcher wasn't a little baby. The whole unwritten rules of baseball bs needs to go away. McCann is my least favorite player in baseball because he thinks he is some sort of officer when he actually is a delicate little princess that can't handle a little taunting.
  14. I'm pretty sure Miami had the best out of conference record among NCHC teams. They went 6-2-2 and 3-1 against Wisconsin and Ohio State.
  15. I couldn't remember the lines completely. Was my first year following hockey at all as it was the year before I was coming to UND. Good year to start following the team. Fell in love with the sport and Sioux hockey. I went back on USCHO and saw that Rodwell played a lot. Did not know that. Cichy and Davidson seemed to be the players that shared time. Is that accurate? Cichy played in a lot more games that year than I thought he did.
  16. Kind of embarrassing to admit, but I didn't catch on to anything until this part: and Gostis-whateverhisnameis (Shayne Gostisbehere) . Very good joke article.
  17. You are seriously overestimating this team. They are definitely overachieving. Gothberg is probably better than Dell was but not head and shoulders better. He is a good not great goalie that seems to have really limited his biggest weakness (super soft goals), but they do still appear every now and then, including the greatest game of his life against Ferris. For our forwards. Pattyn, Gaarder, Rodwell, St. Clair, Chyzyk, and Panzarella would have never seen the ice on the Pony Express team. Parks would have been playing with Mario. Again, probably the second best forward we have on our team this year would have been a fourth liner three years ago. I'm as excited for the frozen four as anyone but I think we should also call a spade a spade and this year's team is overachieving. And there is nothing wrong with being overachievers. Yale wasn't one of the four best teams in the country last year and they won it all. The gophers probably had the best team in the country last year and lost in the first round.
  18. Technically St. Clair is a sophomore. He has been on campus for three years but couldn't get through the NCAA clearinghouse his first year.
  19. I was watching a QU game earlier this year and saw the Toews kid. Looked it up and apparently they're not related at all.
  20. Badger announcers are amazing homers. "What's Watkins so mad about? He wasn't even a part of the original hit." Ummm... I don't know maybe it was the slash to his knees as he's skating away. That might have had something to do with it.
  21. Okay, that makes sense. When I went in right after the game, I entered all of the higher seeds as winning and it resulted in us at 15 but when I did it again after reading your post it had us at 14. I'm not sure what happened but at least we still have a chance. And who knows, maybe all of the other teams will decide to not show up like we did tonight and a miracle will happen for us.
  22. I think Florida might want Grimaldi to leave because his development seems to have stalled here. I love watching him play, but I'm not sure if he is any better now than when he came in and Florida may want to shake something up with his development.
  23. The calculator must have changed on me or something because when I was doing it earlier I couldn't find a way we finished at 14. I went back and did it again and now the Colgate game doesn't even make a difference. We only need Lowell and Wisconsin to win plus us obviously.
