  1. Wife and I wore our Force jerseys to this one. We'll be changing into Sioux green to go to McGovern's once this one is over
  2. My wife was still packing during the game, so that's why we didn't make it... we need a "skipping Denver to watch at McGoverns (sp) tomorrow -
  3. Wife and I are tentatively planning to be there. I say tentatively, because that means getting out of bed early to drive down from Fargo (we're still going to the X for the regional this weekend). If you thought Oxbow6 had to work hard to get his teenager up for brunch, trying to get my wife up is like dealing with that ^2!
  4. If ASU does go Big Mistake, that's a team that's going to get waxed for a couple years in their non-conference games, which could pull down the pairwise of their conference mates. So, at least MN would have that too look forward to
  5. johndahl had a really good still shot. Maybe, if we ask nice, he'll post it in this thread?
  6. He's an android - just needs firmware updates from time to time, and he'll go on forever
  7. Oxbow6 - we'll come see you, and see if your usher is nicer
  8. I think I just ran into gfhockey in the TC restroom. A guy approx 70 ranting about Hak not winning anything...
  9. I'll just leave you with this; My daughter's soccer season time off, if I let take over? A couple weeks in November and 2 weeks in August. Volleyball time off is fortunately November to February, then just camps in June and July before school tryouts/practices start again in August. The point being, it's not just hockey, but many sports that will go year-around if you let them. I don't think anyone has said hockey doesn't take up a lot of time... just that a variety of sports will do the same thing. Edit: No idea what the double quote box thing is?!?!
  10. The bolded should be followed by "if you let it". Just like all sports. I don't know too many kids who only play hockey. As for the gas - don't you drive to any sports' practices? Unless you're lucky enough to have them in your own backyard, that is? I know I had to drive my daughter to and from her JO volleyball practice Monday night...
  11. So you're focused on the "specializing" not the opined "where you could be spending the money"? In that case, yes, I missed your point, as I had been writing about money when you quoted me. On the basketball cost comparison - I have family members who, including travel ball, camps, school, and the like, spend well over the $5,000 per kid in the letter. It's all in how far you take it. What's it gotten them? Intangibles and memories. Beyond that? A D-2 scholarship for the oldest, but for her siblings and cousins it's still an unknown. I will concede that while you can rent hockey pads, the sticks will definitely get you.
  12. You're being too literal. Any sport will be expensive. Looked at the price of basketball camps lately? What about the newest soccer cleats? His opinion can be applied to any sport you want to pick. In some the equipment is more, while others have higher transportation costs or coaching/participation fees. The writer got an opportunity to pick on hockey because of the recent article, his targets for where the money goes would have to be applied to all.
  13. I read it, and guessed the writer had not played sports. Is hockey expensive? Yep. Are sports invaluable for learning teamwork, how to win, how to lose, personal accountability, how to rise above challenges, etc., etc., etc.,? Abso-freaking-lutely! IMHO, there is no better way to prepare for being an adult. If hockey is the chosen sport, so be it.
  14. Years 1 and 2 say this won't be true, but I don't think they ever offered the upper quite so cheap in the past. Maybe a lot of cheapskates will buy the upper bowl planning to try to move down with their discounted tickets, only to run into the legen-waitforit-dary usher blocks?
  15. I thought it once. That year, even our over-aged kicker was perfect through the regular season...
  16. If it's like the first two years, these guys are correct. This is the first time for Duluth to make it, however, and their fans may make the trip? I'd still guess upper level will be available, but we just don't know how many Bulldogs there'll be. St. Cloud and Denver have previously shown that they won't bring big crowds.
  17. What southpaw said - many people go every year, regardless of where it is, and they've bought out a huge chunk of the arena (as in virtually all not held for schools) long ago. The Frozen Four is on a priority system for when you can even buy seats, due to the returning purchasers.
  18. Wouldn't say I "love" it, but your reasoning is sound
  19. LOL - 3,426 votes in the Schmaltz contest, but only 469 in the other. Schmaltz now at 71%.
  20. Went to McGovern's the night before the alumni outdoor game. They miss the Sioux fans there, or at least that's what they said when putting on the Sioux game for us Their outdoor space between the buildings had the glass up and people were sitting out there. We sat in the small bar attached to that (across the patio from the main building). With all that open, but underused, on a regular Friday night, I'm relatively sure they'd do what the could to accommodate a group of us. Plus, you know, once UND gets that regional, they'll have the tents and everything for our group of a few thousand
  21. Nope, not a problem. Easy-peezy-lemon-squeezy. Consider it done.
  22. He went down the tunnel (or at least deep into it) before returning. Hopefully will be just fine.
  23. Whelp, last night against the Blues sucked. BTW - I don't consider reaching back for a bouncing puck "having it under control". IMO, that should have been offside. Not that it matters now.
