  1. OK, I was too wiped out from USA v Canada to stay up and watch the Wild last night, but that would've been a great game to see them come back and best San Jose - Any night owls catch it?
  2. I get what you're saying - run that clock with multiple chances vs. an all or nothing with no time coming off - but I probably still take the shot. Goalies are typically disadvantaged on the penalty shot, plus you have no chance of giving up a short-handed breakaway while you try to score.
  3. not in Fargo. I tried for a Christmas present. Apparently no one reordered for the holidays (entire mall, Scheels, etc). Guess the Wild Wagon will have to get bigger
  4. Last night's second goal with Stewie (and his evil beard) finishing the tic-tac-toe was beautiful!
  5. Staal has looked like an absolute find from this year's free agency. My original opinion of the deal wasn't all smiles and sunshine, but he's been a great addition!
  6. No mention that the Fargo Force made a trade this week to acquire UND commit Mark Seden? http://www.fargoforce.com/news_article/show/733729?referrer_id=2837456 Nice to have another commit to watch locally -
  7. Agreed. Plus, if you throw out the best, you have to throw out the worst, right? Otherwise you're doing nothing but skewing a body of work to fit a narrative.
  8. Exactly how I viewed it. As for what the team needs, that's tough to say. One thing I definitely see missing is the killer instinct. I didn't see them looking at MSU with a "we're better and we're going to bury you in the first" mentality - more of a "we're better than you, and we won't have to try too hard" mindset. Last year's team had to lose to Wisco before they found their way. Hopefully this year's team does the same after this abysmal past weekend.
  9. Price on Sect 114 seats? I think we're going to need Saturday seats, and maybe Friday, too, depending on how long some of the family stays...
  10. This year it sounds like they're doing it up way bigger - using the other sheet of ice (didn't exist for last regional there) and setting up an entertainment deal like The Ralph did at the world juniors last spring, and calling it Fan Fest. I'm still not paying $20 a person for the entrance fee, but it should at least be a little better for those who do.
  11. Looks like Zane is still going to be with them. Wife and I were going to go, but decided against it with the impending blizzard in MN.
  12. Not trying to put it at the top (how do you compare with a national title???), but I'm still loving on this season's Potato Bowl. Without that second half against USD, last week's game is just to keep playoff hopes secure. Or we could have dropped a couple more after a dejected team started 0-3, and last weekend wouldn't have mattered nearly as much. But, that second half set the table for that run that lead to that conference championship that was earned with another second half comeback... A special game in my mind!
  13. Worthless post of the day, but it's 6:21 and my face is still tinglino from cheering at this game. That is all. Carry on.
  14. I'm very nervous about tonight. I expect Denver to have a lot of jump and come out with a "you ended our season" jump. I see a 3-3 tie, with UND winning the shootout 2-1 for the extra conference point.
  15. At Spitfire now. Also, back bar at Blarney Stone on 9th St and I 94 in West Fargo. They put the sound on for featured games. pays to make sure we're featured, though.
  16. I have to disagree, only because several games were blowouts. I'll still take the Twins in 1991 with Jack Morris pitching into the extra innings to follow up Puckett's HR in game 6. But I may be biased Side note: Sooo... freaking.... tired....
  17. Only hockey team, and ahead of Nebraska and Notre Dame football? I'll take that!
  18. Precisely. Starting pitching can win any game, and in game 7 it can be everything. Anyone who watched the Twins win the 1991 series, with Jack Morris throwing that game 7, knows this very well! Get to the pitcher early, because no one is starting tomorrow, everyone is available in the bullpen (even if it's just for one batter), and it's all or nothing.
  19. Blows the entire day for people just driving from Fargo... Leave at 10:00 to be there at 11:00 to tailgate, then the game, out for supper, and not home until at least 7:00, often later. That's 9+ hours, a few beers, two "bad for you" meals, and quite likely an early bedtime. Drive from further out, and it would be magnified. As for the start time advantage with the pacific time zone teams - that's more than a small advantage. If you're interested enough, look at stats for NFL teams traveling east with early starts (I did this a few years back). The number of upsets by the home teams in those games is too big to be ignored. If you're not interested enough to check stats, just listen to the color guy on an NFL broadcast who played for a west coast team. When they broadcast a noon start for one of those pacific teams, there's almost assuredly a comment, or five, about the trip cross-country and how tough the early start is.
  20. Had the opposite problem this week - we brought friends with, and they got into talking with the women's basketball team and I couldn't get them out of the CC tent! I didn't want to be rude and wander off, so I played a second game of heads or tails...
  21. I've got soccer, not hockey, so we travel mainly in the summer. The guy makes a point about the parents making friends, but totally missed the point of the kids bonding. Kids see each other at school (sometimes, anyway. Our summer team has 7 different high schools represented), but when they are on a road trip and all at the same hotel, the friendships that are formed are undeniable. Just like a college team going on the road and chemistry being forged, the younger kids do something similar. My daughter is not the star of her summer team, but she loves it and those friendships will serve her well all the way through graduation and beyond. When I saw how her high school team reacted after state last spring, all I could think about was how much better their season would have been with a weekend tournament in the cities early in the year...
  22. A split seems reasonable, but I think UND can sweep. I don't trust UMD's goalies, and Wolanin back should help shore up the defense. If the D doesn't step up, we could see two close, higher scoring, games - the 6-4 and 5-3 variety. edit: To clarify my scores above, close games with an empty net at the end can often end up 2 goal victories.
