  1. Good point, and well taken. Initially, that's where the chain comes from. Then, before you know it, they get overly corporate and start doing things like boil-in-bag (think Applebee's before this year's wood fired grill makeover) and while quality is consistent, it tends to suffer. This is when chains get a bad name. Some will continue to cook fresh in-house (Granite City, Johnny Carino's, JL Beers), but others will get things preassembled and frozen (Olive Garden, TGI Friday's, Applebee's). Too often, I believe people love chains for the nostalgia of when they were small/new to them, even though the food they get today doesn't hold up when compared to that in their memories. That said, it's good for GF to get in early on the localized chains like JL Beers, Sickies Garage, and more options are always welcome - despite them not always being the ones I hope for
  2. Yay, another fast food chain! (Sarcasm thick, and intentional) Not a biased against Chick-Fil-A, but I just get so sick of the chains. People in Fargo lined up and blocked part of 45th St. for Sonic when it opened. They stood in a line around the building for Chipotle. I mean, seriously, it's the same corporate fast food as the rest of the country, but in the RRV people act like they've never seen anything like it before! [/Rant]
  3. I haven't been this anxious for college football in a long time - glad it's finally game day!
  4. Pretending this is even an option - After what Phili gave up in picks to draft him this year, can you even imagine the asking price? LOL, no, you can't have AP and a middle linebacker...
  5. I just hope they don't do something stupid... Like sign Kaepernick or Sanchez.
  6. So painful to watch at this point. They are scoring enough runs to win almost every game, if they are any other team in MLB, but lose them all... Scored 3, 4, 5, 8, 7, and 6 runs over the last 6 games. Most teams win 3 - 5 of those 6 with that kind of run support.
  7. ... and HJ uses frozen dough. Seriously, frozen pizza dough is one you guys should let go. It's more consistent, and works better for the restaurants. If used properly, you'll never know the difference. And, yes, I worked for the place that produces the HJ dough, for about 7 years
  8. And totally avenged last season's playoff loss by beating Seattle in Seattle. Or else, preseason, and "meh"
  9. Roy out in Colorado. Should be interesting to see how their game changes without him behind the bench.
  10. D'oh - that's the original one down in St Pete, not the one where we so gloriously celebrated!
  11. Quoted and bolded to be preserved for eternity. Or until the Twins change this maddening behavior.
  12. He kinda seems to revel in it, doesn't he? I've never picked at him (that I recall) because I don't know him. Although we're both in Fargo, so I may have met him? One thing is for sure; If DaveK and I ever meet for a beer, I hope it's a day I'm wearing Bruins gear
  13. Been a couple of fun nights watching the Twins absolutely destroy Cleveland's pitching. This hitting explosion over the last couple of weeks has been nuts! I can't decide if I'm loving it, or if I'm PO'd that they didn't do it sooner -
  14. Was it hard to get in? Or were there plenty of seats? I just don't know how to gauge this thing for expected popularity... Will be in the cities Thursday night, and wondering if I should try to leave early and make one of these.
  15. Very little local/regional stuff is picked up, generally speaking. Just like without a google search, none of us know anything about who was murdered last week in Phoenix, or by whom. We don't know about the white gangs terrorizing rural neighborhoods in GA (if/when they happen), and Atlanta doesn't know about this. Until there's a bigger story than people making threats, it won't go national - it's only when the next line is crossed that it becomes worthy of Fox News/CNN/MSNBC, etc. Until there are charges, or a murder, it'll likely stay local.
  16. It was reported by all the TC channels when it took place a week ago. Police have intervened, put on extra patrols, etc., all mentioned in the media coverage. You may need to expand upon the media outlets you visit? I just grabbed the ABC affiliate link, but it should get you started; http://kstp.com/news/minneapolis-police-investigate-alleged-terroristic-threats-calhoun-parkway/4186341/
  17. ^^ embrace the team - player pictures on the walls, able to buy a UND t-shirt inside the building, anything that doesn't seem like the game is just tonight's event and will have moved on to the next town by morning.
  18. A lot of that ^^ plus John Marks turned out to be a bad match for him as a coach. 16 yo Cakebread was referred to as "best hands on a 16 yo I've ever seen" by Hakstal. 18 yo Cakebread was cut by the Force and ended up with the Vipers.
  19. That's the big question for TB, esp after retaining their core players. I still think Bishop is the better of the two goalies on any given day, but I'm not the one who gets to decide that for Tampa.
  20. fun start! Surprised how active the Wild are on day 1.
  21. Made the homer in me worry about Dillon Simpson's future. Dug into Larsson a little more yesterday - little offense, but still played 82 games last year at +15.
  22. Can't wait for free agency to start! Agree with those above that the Hall deal looks like clearing cap space. I'll have to see what they do with it, but it doesn't seem like a great trade at this moment.
  23. With all the news today, it's about time we kick off the new season's thread! Big trades today: PK Subban for Shea Weber http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2016/06/29/pk-subban-shea-weber-canadiens-predators/86523282/ Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson http://sports.yahoo.com/news/taylor-hall-traded-to-devils-for-adam-larsson-200817592.html Oh, and Stamkos signed a deal to stay in TB! Zucker signs for 2 years with the Wild. And, Matt Cullen wants to play another year in Pitt. .... And we're still 2 days from the start of free agency
