  1. An article on scheduling buy games. https://www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/index.ssf/2018/10/syracuse_pays_basketball_opponents_to_hopefully_lose_how_buy_games_work.html Getting $100k is about the max. Many mid majors have buy games if they have a big gate or TV contract. $65 k is about the bottom for a buy game.
  2. Just in the few weeks that Kolpack wrote his article about the dearth of DII teams going FCS, two more have committed: Merrimack and LIU. You can throw CWU in there eventually and UNA lost to DII UWF, which has DI and FCS dreams even though its a new DII fb program. http://www.inforum.com/sports/football/4500024-kolpack-north-alabama-fcs-getting-much-needed-quality-program But our local bison trolls don’t get on Kolpack for not knowing &*** but they never get on their cheerleader base for wearing Pom-poms, skirts and a pig’s nose. Fake news is Forum’s and NDSU’s way of keeping North Dakotans uninformed about the sports scene.
  3. UND about to fall behind Denver 2-1 in sets. Denver U is the best team that UND will face at home. Chwialkowski is playing again while Williams hasn’t seen the court.
  4. Has UND ever got a bigger confidence boost on a off day. ISU put a beating on an Idaho team that is less than a year from FBS and was just two years from their big Bowl win. With Weber losing, ISU vs EWU for the Big Sky championship. The Griz season could be on the line in GF next week.
  5. Seems Chwialkowski started and played for UConn transfer Kayla Williams. Pryor said the team played better for 90% of the time than they have played in conference games. Don’t know if Williams was injured. Five freshman were on the court at once for a time.
  6. The third game was all Omaha as they won 25-11. The 4th set was 7-7. UND lost the 4th set 28-26 and the match.
  7. The third game was all Omaha as they won 25-11. The 4th set has started 7-7.
  8. Portland State’s stadium problems. https://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/407500-304270-vikings-forced-to-become-nomads They prefer Providence Park downtown but that field is controlled now by the soccer Timbers and Thorns, The rent has almost doubled to $32k a game and often soccer games take priority. So they might be forced to make the Hillsboro HS 7k seat stadium a permanent home or drop the sport.
  9. UND took the second game 25-20 after it was tied at 18.
  10. Omaha won the first game. Darian Chwialkowski, the freshman from WF, started for UND and has been playing.
  11. Arizona needs to be with the Cali teams and Vegas for financial health. If Fertitta buys the Coyotes and move them to Houston that changes things.
  12. Disagree on this entirely. Chapman originally wanted to take NDSU hockey DI, but when the Fargo voters said no to arena at the Fargo Dome and later downtown, he got on the DI trail quickly. In the meantime, UND was digesting the Ralph and the Alerus and didn’t know how it would work financially until years later. Which the Ralph be a financial drain or would the sell outs continue? Any corporate executive would have made the same decision that Kupchella did? The Big Sky was waiting and didn’t want NDSU and SDSU to force things down their throat.
  13. It’s not that simple. Delta doesn’t interchange big jets with small regional ones. Smaller contract airlines, like Skywest, are a big part of those decisions and they have a major pilot shortage. Right now Bismarck and Williston don’t have SLC service while Rapid City and Billings do.
  14. This article says several more schools are rumored to be moving up in WIH, like Assumption, Stonehill and Southern New Hampshire. All of them are DII and most have DII men’s teams that can’t play for anything. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is a new DI men’s league, as a DII one never made sense. Those schools offer men’s hockey scholarships now and in the past. LIU has now an enormous athletic program that needs men’s hockey after all the duplications of CW Posts programs are cut. https://www.theicegarden.com/2018/9/26/17905916/new-england-womens-hockey-alliance-officially-announces-formation-new-ncaa-womens-hockey-conference
  15. LIU-Brooklyn and LIU-Post have announced their two athletic programs are merging. Brooklyn was DI and CW Post was DII. This means there will be one more FCS program as Post has DII fb that will move up. Brooklyn previously announced that WIH would be started. The combined programs can start men’s ice hockey and play in the renovated smaller Nassau County Coliseum. https://liupostpioneers.com/news/2018/10/2/baseball-liu-announces-unification-into-one-liu-division-i-program.aspx Edit: https://www.newsday.com/sports/college/liu-post-liu-brooklyn-1.21416636 So the Brooklyn campus keeps M&W basketball, W volleyball, W ice hockey, W water polo, W bowling, M&W track and field, W fencing, W swimming, softball. The suburban Post campus will be upgraded to DI for football, M&W lacrosse, M&W soccer, baseball, W field hockey, W rugby, W rowing, W tennis, W equestrian, M wrestling. LIU will drop duplicate M&W basketball, baseball, M&W soccer, softball, and W lacrosse. With all those drops, men’s ice hockey at the Post campus should easily be affordable. There were rumors that LIU-Post would by itself go DI, but this is much more affordable.
  16. Montana and Idaho airports fly Delta to both MSP and SLC. That is considered not only normal but mandatory.
  17. This article emphasizes Sioux Falls’ recent success, but also listed Fargo, Bismarck, Des Moines and Iowa City as midwest success stories in the last 20 years. The Midwest doesn’t have many economic boom towns in that time frame. https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-10-02/south-dakota-s-sioux-falls-can-teach-the-u-s-about-growth
  18. Allegiant flies to Denver from cities like Cincinnati and Ashville NC. It's not meant to be a connector flight, with all its complications. Allegiant doesn't intend to be a connector as they leave that to Frontier etc. Allegiant is building a massive beach resort in Port Charlotte, Fl north of Ft Myers. Their flights into Punta Gorda will see a major rise as Punta Gorda has limited flights now. It's an attempt to sell hotel tickets too and keep the money, not just airline tickets, which are just a small part of a vacation cost. Hotels and rental listed on their sites often return major referral fees. Allegiant is more a vacation company than an airline. Allegiant had connector flights from Las Vegas to Hawaii. But they since withdrew from Hawaii as the connections were such a logistical pain. Allegiant is committed to no stop flights to vacation destinations as that is where and how they have been profitable. They have expanded to Tucson, Austin, New Orleans, Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Myrtle Beach, Newark as destinations and their business keeps growing.
  19. Vail and Flores were named offensive and defensive players of the week by the Summit. Second time for both. https://fightinghawks.com/news/2018/10/1/womens-volleyball-und-sweeps-summit-league-weekly-awards.aspx
  20. EWU, CWU, and WWU were all normal schools originally. WWU has the higher endowment, but has dropped fb. EWU and CWU are both low endowment schools with less than $30 million. EWU only got into the Big Sky as the Sky schools wanted back into Spokane after Gonzaga left, so they settled for a cheap imitation. Ideally, those three should have closer cooperation than the Dakota 4, but they haven’t sticked together for the last 30 years. DII fb on the west coast is nearly dead, so that leaves CWU in a major athletic quandary. CWU is just as capable as EWU financially, but the cities in Central Washington are more widespread, like Wenatchee, Yakima and many other JC’s in the central part that CWU has branches at. For CWU, it’s either drop fb, or move up to FCS. Spending the little endowment money they have on FB stadium improvements is a resounding yes answer for an FCS direction.
  21. Didn’t explain myself well enough. The volleyball ranking # is much more precise than the rating #. Stanford is #1 now, but anyone 0.5 points behind doesn’t have much chance, which takes down to #17. It’s a bell curve and there not many at the top. Going down another 0.5 ranking pts takes us to a rating of 84. Another 0.5 ranking goes down another 140 spots to a ranking of 220. UND, IPFW, USD and even Omaha are all in that range, but Denver is way ahead at #34. NDSU, SDSU, and ORU are sub 1.00 teams. WIU is sub 0.500 team. https://masseyratings.com/cvol/ncaa-d1/ratings Below 1.000 is OK for a DII school. Denver probably won’t loose to any Summit school as their ranking is higher than any USD or UND has ever seen. With the way UND has played, the timing and concentration seems to be off, would expect a loss at ORU or NDSU. With last year’s team, I would have taken that bet.
  22. Was actually implying that Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and other SEC teams might be interested because they have major bucks and a cable network, but you and Goon are so jumpy because you aren't capable of thinking before posting like ten year olds.
  23. Mary shut out NDSU to begin their club season.
  24. A number of those NEWHA schools will have TItle IX problems if they don’t start men’s hockey, which may very well come later. But they need one more as Sacred Heart won’t leave the AHA for a startup league.
