  1. The Thrashers and Flames would have been wildly popular if Cobb County and Gwinnett County residents had a northern suburb NHL rink so they don’t have to fight the downtown Atlanta traffic and risk the crime. That why the Braves moved to Cobb County, even though that stadium was only 20+ years old. Its the same issue as Glendale, which is way west of Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale and even The Florida Panthers, whose arena is way north in heavy traffic of Miami.
  2. 1). Idaho still had FBS status so the contract was still good for 3x the FCS rate. That is a smart. 2) NMSU needs to stay at the level of their main rivals, UNM and UTEP. Boise St has stopped playing Idaho and now Idaho’s main rivals are the Montanas. Until the Summit decides on who their next school is, I will be posting in this thread. IPFW wants another conference like all the other Summit schools east of the Missippi (IUPUI, Oakland, Valparaiso, Youngstown St, Wright St, I’ll-Chicago, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Cleveland St, etc) no matter what those bison trolls say. They are delusional that IPFW is happy, and the Summit has major issues keeping their autobid without IPFW. The Summit needs to become a regional state league like the MAC, in which the core schools haven’t left for 50 years. The Summit is in an existential crisis and there are more moves to be made.
  3. A Pet Supply superstore along with a long list of retailers that need significant space that aren’t in GF.
  4. Thought Babcock was destined for demolishing in the 80’s because it’s was such a hazard. The idea that it will a computing center and the HQ for Electrical Engineering department seems like a joke. The foundation must be much better than we imagined at the time. Always thought Babcock was a very ugly building that did fit in the architectural motif of the campus.
  5. There are two major difference this time: 1). NMSU has continued to schedule FBS teams long-term. NMSU needs to keep their rivalry games against UTEP and UNM and Liberty and UMass will schedule them. Idaho didn’t even have Boise St as they have blackballed Idaho and Washington St won’t commit to a series with games in Moscow. NMSU has a whole slew of FBS teams in Texas that need to fill their schedules. Idaho only had Wyoming that would commit to Moscow and everybody else out west looks at that trip as beneath them. 2) Idaho would have needed to pay major bucks to get a home schedule with the required five games (four FBS) as not many FBS teams were interested in going there. The loss of conference affiliation was a much bigger cost setback for the Vandals compared to the Aggies. Also, didn’t realize that many of the Idaho contracts had out clauses for little cost and FBS schools that scheduled Idaho were still required to pay Idaho at FBS rates per NCAA rules as they were FBS when those games were scheduled. Wyoming has dropped several games because they don’t want two FCS schools in the same season. You wouldn’t even be convinced to go FBS if NDSU went, so there is no use arguing with you.
  6. Any long term planning talk is way out of your league. Talking next decade. Why would a relatively rich school like Georgia, with tens of millions coming in from the SEC Network annually, plan to give a club team home ice? Entirely possible that UGA is capable of long term planning. The nearest permanent big ice arena is in Gwinnett County where a ECHL played. That isn’t very doable for students to attend.
  7. NMSU has already scheduled nearly full FBS teams until 2021. 2024 is the nearest year they can be serious about FCS. https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/new-mexico-state/ Is your source Southpaw or Goon or bison trolls? 2024 is when some Big Sky teams will complete their FBS transition and can schedule NMSU. NMSU needs some Big Sky schools, and it would be hush-hush until an announcement. The schools know who blabs when confidential matters arise so they leak out talks that aren’t true.
  8. Figures. With your brain power, everything needs to be spelled out exactly on a press release. UGA already has a massive basketball arena.
  9. Any NMSU AD or President that has common sense would, so of course you need confirmation. Here a link about what other posters think about your sense: http://www.katfans.com/katsforum/showthread.php?21710-AGS-(Bison-Fans)-are-racists
  10. It would be the stupidest thing NMSU has ever done, as it eliminates the possibility of FBS moveups, as the WAC can hand out FBS invites. Of course NMSU is talking to some Big Sky schools to get them to move up.
  11. Including UND’s. Syracuse, where SideArm is based, is a prominent national power in sports media and journalism. https://www.syracuse.com/business-news/index.ssf/2018/09/sidearm_sports_which_runs_1100_college_websites_from_syracuse_makes_big_move.html
  12. Looks like U of Georgia/Athens are planning a 6000 seat hockey arena. A southern league could get going if Louisville, Alabama, Tennessee, NC State and maybe others like UAH and Liberty join in. https://www.redandblack.com/sports/hockey/new-arena-for-georgia-hockey-in-early-planning-stages/article_ed6ad2be-b2f6-11e8-8774-cfdb237b8e4c.html
  13. Merrimack’s strategic plan identified DI in 2011 as the place for all its athletics, but didn’t get a DI invite until 2018. It still won’t be a full DI school until at least 2023. Sports moves in the NCAA don’t happen overnight. I’m been guilty of believing within a few shorts years some thing big will happen, but trolls seem to believe that nothing ever happens. http://www.eagletribune.com/news/merrimack_valley/merrimack-college-sports-teams-jumping-to-division-i/article_bf4a1979-aa69-5e52-86c8-b7cb0319101b.html Personnally think Robert Morris is moving out of the NEC, and this move is just to proactively maintain the NEC at 11 members. The NEC is a beginning DI league where almost all the schools aspire to a greater conference.
  14. Merrimack is moving all it’s athletic programs to DI and the Northeast Conference except hockey of course. Hockey East will become all DI schools. http://northeastconference.org/news/2018/9/7/GEN_Merrimack_Joins_NEC_18.aspx Merrimack has only 3600 undergrads with now 24 DI sports and <$60 mill endowment. The Northeast Conference is mostly private school, but this looks good for Augustana. The Summit needs to up its anty and be a little bit selective.
  15. Massey had us favored over both UAB and Clemson, but we got swept by both. Dever and South Dakota seem like the only real competition is the Summit. https://www.masseyratings.com/team.php?t=5538&s=302965 Will be interesting how much UND fall back.
  16. Seeing patterns in something, that no one else sees, is a spiritual gift.
  17. Was an early investor in the Bakken and then got out mostly in 2014. Sarepta has potential Nobel prize winning technology as far as I am concerned and just got into gene therapy for rare neuromuscular diseases where there isn’t any treatment. Kids were helped by their trials and that was good enough for me as DMD doesn’t have a placebo effect but the world of investors mostly nixed it because they didn’t run a placebo arm at the same time. There are more biotechs that have enormous potential -it’s been a step change lately in knowledge and drug producing ability - like Arrowhead Research that has a potential cure for Hepatitis B, which is major disease around the world with no cure. But since I’m such a dumb*ss according to you and others here, so you should only be listened to as your the biggest (literally) con man ever.
  18. Brought up a stock called Sarepta before here, and it has increased to 14 times the original buy price. It’s a serious treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy using RNA masking technology. Big money has opposed it because they didn’t run a placebo as it would have taken years to run an immoral death clinical “trial”, but somehow the drug keeps muscle mass so kids can walk instead of dieing or being confined to a wheelchair before they succumb to heart problems or lung issues. But was able to make a judgement well before the experts like “you” that earned me a veritable fortune when people like you would rather let kids die cruelly. You personnally know a lot about the Jamestown facility, so wouldn’t argue about your expertise on mental illness.
  19. If UND hockey struggled to fill a 6000 seat stadium, why did they always fill a 12,000 seat arena when they had the same opponents?
  20. Gone over this before. $4 million estimate is how much more FBS costs for MAC and SunBelt level compared to high FCS schools. UND has had a budget greater than a number of MAC and Sun Belt schools already. $2mill extra from guarantee games ($1.5 mill for FBS teams vs <$0.5 mill for FCS) $1 mill from CFP payout, that may be upped to $2 mill from the new contract $1 mill increased revenue from a new stadium (more suites, loge seat, more attendance). Maybe a couple hundred K from a enhanced conference TV package. FBS is a better investment by far than WIH, which has been terminated for FBS use, as FBS brings national publicity, much more than men’s ice hockey.
  21. That’s a very good trait of investors. Used to be able to predict some big change in the corporation when our plant manager said something that as out of the ordinary. Been a full time investor for almost 8 years now and raised my net worth by ten times. Experts look at my portfolio and shake their heads. UND and the new Summit League is a sure thing for FBS. It a safer bet than my stocks.
  22. Never said Dixie St will go FBS. Said they get invited to the Big Sky which means FCS and DI. Dixie St is much more capable of going DI than Southern Utah ever was as St George is a fast growing city, Utah’s Vegas and Phoenix for snowbirds. SUU and UVU didn’t have a DII conference when they went DI as the RMAC would not accept them then. Some posters don’t realize there are other motives in building facilities than blindly believing what a press release says. The Big Sky will invite CWU, Dixie St and Asuza Pacific to replenish their numbers from FBS defectors.
  23. Dixie St adds nearly 5000 seats to prepare for the Big Sky when it needs to add schools to replace the research schools going FBS. https://www.stgeorgeutah.com/news/archive/2018/09/05/prc-dixie-state-university-to-cut-ribbon-on-grandstand-during-football-game/#.W5AHUYplChA
  24. Sam Houston St is starting a meidical school in a Houston suburb. This raises the bar for the school’s prestige, though some posters severely disagree. https://www.texastribune.org/2018/08/14/state-board-approves-new-medical-school-sam-houston-state-university/ FBS will be coming to Sam Houston St.
  25. USD actually beat Cal in Vermillion 3-1. USD has only lost to Iowa St so far and Cal was unbeaten. Cal was picked last in the always tough PAC12.
