  1. Oil may go back to $100/barrel by 4th qtr, at least according to some traders. The US is clapping down on Iran’s trade and oil supplies at the Cushing, OK, massive tank farm is dropping fast. Meanwhile, the Permian Basis in Texas doesn’t have pipeline capacity for its increased production, so that leaves the Bakken, Alberta, and other fields. North Dakota could enter into another period of rapid growth. https://www.rigzone.com/news/wire/return_of_100_oil_seen_by_top_traders-24-sep-2018-157007-article/
  2. Well if it was the University of Grand Forks, your point might have some validity. But it’s not. Kennedy and Chaves know that UND football have to reach out to ND and beyond and get the alumni excited. As much as hockey can get the alumni excited, it won’t give UND much of a national stage.
  3. Cirrus Aircraft is also big in Duluth. To think that Grand Forks could have been its corporate HQ. Cirrus has like 1200 employees now, including a big sales office at the Knoxville airport. Polaris moved its corporate HQ to the Cities as their product offering has diversified will beyond snowcats, but its impact on Roseau is still huge.
  4. Getting Allen-Eiken’s would be huge as having him and Bijiek would form a core in the middle we haven’t had. Jones gets grief for going to Latvia-Lithuania but a perennial winning program like Gonzaga does it almost every year. https://247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Lithuanian-star-Martynas-Arlauskas-turns-down-professional-options-commits-to-Gonzaga-122244716/
  5. At Christian concerts, there is rarely trash left. Same for concerts in Japan. People were amazed at the cleanliness of locker rooms left by the Japan World Cup team and Army football team.
  6. Fraase has played in most sets. Taliyah Flores, the freshman from Nebraska, has been awarded the libero position though and has played in almost all sets. Flores got the Summit defensive POW last week: http://www.thesummitleague.org/sports/wvball/2018-19/releases/20180917k9p147 The PUFW offensive POW had another big day against UND.
  7. Agree that Vb is down, but the future looks fantastic with all the freshman and sophs getting major playing time. Will take time to jell. Roosa and Brynn and the gal from Nebraska are major building blocks for the next four conference seasons.
  8. The rest of the schedule: at Northern Colorado Montana at Sac St Weber st at Idaho Portland St at NAU Northern Colorado and Sac St are probably underrated teams and they have some quick athletes. Weber St is probably the tallest hurdle but that game is at home. Montana is overrated and should have lost to Sac St. A 6-1 record almost assures a playoff berth and a 5-2 record will still leave a chance. As I see it, the next three games are all critical wins.
  9. My understanding is that Champions Club members won’t get in free to the NDSU game. Those fans will have to pay instead of reaping a perk. That could greatly increase the actual volleyball gate, but piss off some members and probably not result in a sell out. The teams performance is way down from last year too. Chaves is raising more money for volleyball.
  10. Fargo has been so blessed with local corporations that have hit grand slams economically. Great Plains software was the first and Aldevron may be the second. http://www.inforum.com/news/science-and-nature/4503280-aldevron-fargos-next-microsoft-homegrown-biotechnology-firm Biotech is so competive and Aldevron seems to have found a supply niche where they have filled a gap. I don’t count cooperatives or the State Mill as they don’t create nearly the value and are mainly interested in surviving, not diversifying or investing in other related fields. The aerospace companies in Grand Forks aren’t based there so they don’t create nearly the long term value. Polaris, Digi Key and Marvin Windows are examples that have.
  11. It’s such a shame that this team hasn't taken more advantage of Santiago, Olivera, and Johanneson. The first two are seniors so they won’t get another chance. The running game could drop of markedly next year.
  12. Schools want to align with their academic peers. Not WIU, or even Missouri St, UNI, SIU, Ind St etc. The only schools that properly academically align with UND and NDSU are further west. MWC and Big 12 schools are steps above the leagues like the Summit and Big Sky.
  13. UC-Davis, Weber St and EWU have emerged as the class of the Big Sky. But Idaho St may join them. Montana, Mont St, Idaho, NAU, Sac St and UNC appear to be pedestrian teams. It will be interesting if UND can outlast them.
  14. The air around here is just so depressed, but not nearly as much as Va Tech. They lost to winless ODU, which previously had been pummeled by Liberty. Va Tech though remains rated in the coaches poll. The sun came up again. The unexpected happens and we shouldn’t discount that whether in a positive or negative manner.
  15. In the 3rd set, UND was ahead 18-13, but then allowed FW to score nine straight pts. Resulting in a 25-22 loss.
  16. UND behind PUFW 2-0. The set scores have been 25-21 and 25-22.
  17. CWU is growing ever larger because UW and WWU have enrollment limits and Evergreen St is in free fall because parent don’t want to send their kids to a SJW camp. https://www.yakimaherald.com/news/education/record-freshman-streak-ends-but-central-washington-university-keeps-growing/article_f8fa9960-bc8e-11e8-924b-df3ddc8b32ab.html CWU either needs to go back to NAIA or go up to DI to save football. DII just doesn’t have schools on the west coast to support it. Guess that’s why CWU is putting money in their football stadium because it will be dropped as a sport. The only reason that EWU got in the Sky earlier was because it is near Spokane where tons of Griz and Vandals live. EWU and CWU are basically the same except for location. No use talking to you as you believe NDSU and Bresciani that NDSU will be at 18,000 soon. That’s the only change that you foresee.
  18. You must get a lot of that thrown at you for your insipid pointless hockey blog.
  19. UND goes FBS when NDSU does. Pretty simple. A couple of years ago, FBS North Texas got absolutely pummeled by Portland St. Now they still are unbeaten, with a beat down win against Arkansas. Nicholls St beat Sam Houston by 20. Sammy was not at all deserving of a #5 ranking but just was ranked on precedence. Idaho St had a much better defense than I was expecting.
  20. So Delta and United Airlines have signed agreements with UND to take pilots. But American Airlines has plotted its own course by starting its own pilot academy. http://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2018/American-Airlines-Announces-New-Program-to-Recruit-Next-Generation-of-Pilots-With-Launch-of-Cadet-Academy/default.aspx
  21. Where is our other troll /curmudgeon (bizon73) to weigh(t) in? The Eastern Washington board has much more details for the illiterates like Goon. EWU fans say the CWU President said a DI invite is coming via video. Didn’t remember the exact details but the EWU board has them. https://bigskyfans.com/eagles/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4793
  22. Been a rough match for UND so far with WIU. Tied at 2 each in the 5th set. WIU has only won one match so far this year and was chosen to finish last in the Summit. UND settled down and.won the 5th set 15-8.
  23. The league won’t merge, as it would effectively give each school about half the NCAA dance income. President are smarter than that as the bids will get maximized, not minimized.. Also believe that Denver and Omaha are fully in as UND is now a part of the Summit, as they all have hockey as an important part of their budgets. Both Denver and Omaha would need to be Creighton or Wichita St level basketball before they get other conference offers that tear up that hockey partnership, even though it is not in the Summit. The Big Sky is too big, but yet the Central Washington President is saying a western DI bid is upcoming in 2020.so they are expanding their fb stadium, which is happening. Only the Big Sky has FCS in the West that could offer CWU a spot. The Montanas, Idaho and Weber St have had the preeminent athletic and academic programs in the Big Sky and they are tired of being associated with relatively weak academic programs and with commuter and suitcase schools. Put on a President cap and that’s what the answer is for the Summit. EWU has been good athletically, but has no alumni base financial support so CWU is the next best thing to Montana or Idaho.
  24. College soccer doesn’t bring big crowds or much talent, as talented youngsters go directly to MLS development teams. Even soccer fans don’t go to the games like MLS teams, as there is a big shindig about getting an expansion MLS team now for cities now. Even the SEC doesn’t sponsor men’s soccer (only Kentucky and South Carolina have it) and thy have a cable network that consumes much programming and provides mega dollars. NCAA men’s soccer just doesn’t have drawing power anywhere near like college football. Lacrosse is a much more likely addition for fb playing schools if adding a sport.
  25. Northern Colorado won’t move because, unlike DII days, when UNC needed strong DII competition, it now needs more student enrollment and alumni engagement. UNC will stay west for more awareness among prospective parents and students. ORU would be wise to look at the WAC, which has a territory with millions more people that are charismatic Christian, which ORU practices and preaches. Neither school have many alumni in the Dakotas or Nebraska, which is another downfall of the Summit. A school like SIUE chose the OVC over the Summit because of those factors. The Summit is a lot stronger than the OVC, but it almost always loses the beauty competition between the two. The Horizon also beats the Summit League in the beauty completion, at least for schools east of the Mississippi. Just don’t see how the Summit survives in its current form without football and without the Montanas and Idaho.
