  1. Volleyball wins today against MVSU 3-0. The total scores were 75-45. Noted earlier the schedule was weak, and next week take on three eastern teams and the following weekend against mostly weak Carolina schools. That should gives this team confidence when they begin their home tournament against EWU. In previous seasons they have played against P5 and upper G5 schools, but this year is limited to Villanova, who like most eastern schools hasn’t made a name for itself in the sport. Edit: Villanova finished fourth the the BE and is projected to have the same finish this year. But Creighton and Marquette dominate volleyball in that league.
  2. The MVFC went 2-8 in games so far. UNI lost to ISU in 3Ot Ind St lost to Kansas Ill St is losing to NIU USD lost to Montana SDSU lost to Minn sIU lost to SEMO Mo St lost to NAU WIU lost to UNA But that means the entire MVFC will make the playoffs Sam Houston is giving a game to UNM
  3. Start an advertising campaign for NDSU that Rep Ilhan Omar was a proud graduate of the Fargo institution and parents would be so appalled that they wouldn’t send their kids there. The enrollment would drop like a Rock as Mizzou experienced.
  4. SkySkopes, based in GF, may be on the cusp of taking off nationally in pipeline and utility monitoring. https://www.grandforksherald.com/business/small-business/4633577-UAS-growth-has-Grand-Forks-based-SkySkopes-seeking-more-help
  5. UND beats St Mary's 2-1 in 2OT.
  6. The Bismarck Tribune says Augie to the Summit, St Thomas to the NSIC. https://bismarcktribune.com/sports/local/nsic-commissioner-lind-confident-of-league-s-future-despite-augie/article_757207cd-aa61-51aa-a794-7d595c7d0a04.html St Thomas might go directly to DI if the NCAA ok’s DIII to DI moves, like it has done before.
  7. Shale oil has accounted for 10% of the GDP growth and ND has a significant part of it. https://www.spe.org/en/jpt/jpt-article-detail/?art=5866 McKenzie County has more than twice the oil and gas output than other Bakken Counties. https://www.worldpipelines.com/project-news/22082019/bakken-shale-production-growth-to-be-constrained/ But production growth needs more gas plants as there is too much flaring.
  8. UND picked sixth for the season. Hope there’s more upside than last. https://fightinghawks.com/news/2019/8/21/womens-volleyball-fighting-hawks-picked-sixth-in-summit-league-coaches-poll.aspx
  9. Prayers for Carl as he begins the next step in his life’s journey.
  10. Almost had a big man: https://www.news-gazette.com/sports/illini-land-late-big-man/article_01189556-c144-11e9-952e-eb3d30db485c.html

  12. Alerus probably had old stockholders that wanted to sell, and they made a market for it on the OTC. This gave them a way to sell their shares, even though it hadn’t IPOed yet.
  13. There is further confirmation that NC A&T is exploring an FBS slot. As noted earlier, it could make sense if a new league, probably the ASun, gets 8 FBS teams and declares itself an FBS conference before the new CFB contract. Then it would partake in the CFP payout to the tune of more than $10 mill per year. Independents get much less than conference teams, except Notre Dame. https://thespun.com/college-football/north-carolina-at-aggies-football-fbs There will be a mass of FCS to FBS before 2025 as it makes financial sense.
  14. Not sure why it’s an IPO, as they have already traded on the OTC market for nearly two decades. It will be listed on the NASDAQ now, but that’s not an IPO but a change in listing. Perhaps missing something. https://www.thestreet.com/quote/ALRS.html The Twin Cities Business Journal say Alerus is a now a Minneapolis based company based on where revenue sources and that paper confirms that Alerus is already listed. http://tcbmag.com/news/articles/2019/august/alerus-unveils-plans-for-75m-ipo
  15. NC A&T is considering going FBS, and they have only a budget of $13.7 million in 2017 dollars. https://mobile.twitter.com/JEPopeIV/status/1162551513165783041 https://mobile.twitter.com/stevenjgaither So some schools can’t even consider FBS if their budget are almost triple that? NC A&T’s fb stadium seats 21,000, so FBS is at least possible with that seating,
  16. Electricity demand in western North Dakota is expected to increase by 71% over the next 20 years. https://bismarcktribune.com/bakken/as-oil-industry-grows-so-will-electric-power-consumption-in/article_5ec83316-b4c6-5c2a-a29e-91e41ba8b316.html
  17. Basin’s ammonia goes into urea. New ammonia plants are now built at 10% size of the old ones with newer and cheaper technology at lower costs. https://ammoniaindustry.com/small-scale-ammonia-production-is-the-next-big-thing/
  18. This article says less than a third of ND’s urea demand is from Beulah, and that doesn’t include ammonia. https://www.kfyrtv.com/content/news/Urea-lines-one-year-later-512604841.html Western Minnesota, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are also huge markets.
  19. So three petrochemical films that have operations in Alberta are looking to expand in ND (last paragraph). https://www.grandforksherald.com/business/energy-and-mining/4615042-Flaring-reaches-record-high-amid-pipeline-gas-plant-shutdowns It’s been told here that never would happen. But they have transportation challenges there too.
  20. ISt Thomas has hired a outfit that used to work on Gopher facilities to improve their own. They have also hired Penn St hockey associates that help get Penn St’s hockey program going, but the Tommies have insisted that they keep their traps closed to the press. A blurb on this is below: https://www.twincities.com/2019/08/10/charley-walters-kyle-rudolph-says-vikings-have-learned-from-18-mistakes/
  21. Read that one donor owned a bunch of Microsoft stock and expected to gift much of it, but was disappointed years ago that it hasn’t appreciated more. Well it was $30 then and near $140 now.
  22. While not near term, Texas A&M San Antonio was just started and has like 5000 students, but is projected to grow to 50000. It’s starting an athletic program right now at the NAIA level but will go DI eventually. Schools like Sam Houston St, Lamar, Texas Arlington, Texas -Dallas and others need to have move up athletically to to raise their visibilities. http://www.tamusa.edu/documents/master-plan-trifold.pdf
  23. Good creative thought.
  24. That building is so ugly. Needs to be torn down and a multistory building replace it.
  25. Would expect UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs to want to go DI now. 19,000 students and just moved their basketball to a new arena in downtown Santa Cruz, the time seems right. UT Dallas with 16,000 students is also possible.
