  1. McCord, Kostis squeezed out at CBS. Sad day for golf fans. These guys have been a big part of the Saturday/Sunday afternoon TV soundtrack for a generation.
  2. UND can't win here. Moving students (however sensible) will generate heat, especially in an age of cost awareness, increasing student fees, etc. And offering even the most loyal STH a chance to move across the field solely to get closer to the 50 will not generate nearly enough positive PR to justify the grief. The Alerus Center really isn't made for balance. The wider concourse and greater amenities are all along the east ("home") side, where the bulk of the prime seating is currently situated. Are there really that many STH or prospective STH clamoring for midfield seats on the west?
  3. Might as well get this started. First question...what the heck is going on over at Red River? https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4739125-Red-River-boys-hockey-coaching-job-reopens-Ryan-LaDouceur-to-take-job-with-UND-hockey Did UND cold-bloodedly poach him? Is this a character issue (what kind of coach leaves a HS -- their alma mater, no less -- high and dry 2 weeks before the season), is this a culture issue at RR (long time coach gone under cloud of controversy, can't hold on to the replacement, what next?), or maybe a little of both? Does anybody come out of this smelling like a rose? Should non-teacher coaches even be considered for HS/prep jobs?
  4. Respectfully disagree. I've thought about this, and if someone takes off their Bison-hating glasses, it seems fair to say that (1) Wentz is a truly gifted athlete who can make things happen with his feet the way few NFL QBs can, (2) he is an appropriate QB around whom to BUILD a winning franchise, but who cannot do it alone and probably does not have Brady-like title potential, and (3) we'll never know where he might be if not for the successive, season-ending injuries. He has not quite lived up to his incredible rookie performance, but time will tell. He is one of the most famous North Dakotans on the planet, and the current face of FCS in the NFL, and ND is well served by his success.
  5. Yeah, but they were just plain lucky that the Byzantines were knocked out in the first round by the upstart Bulgarians, and UMD got the easy Frozen Four draw against the Bohemians. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1018
  6. Not sure that's cause for celebration. Cal Poly is dreadful.
  7. THIS audio feed is why Pluto got downgraded to space junk status.
  8. Strangest brand of football I've watched in a long time.
  9. GDT only 3 pages in at the horn? Is this a record?
  10. Now you've made slashing penalties just plain weird.
  11. Does the US Postal Service have a jingle?
  12. The UND student newspaper has given up on the football team. Not sure whether they're insinuating that UND's playoff chances don't have a prayer, or that an empty church is an apt metaphor for the Alerus Center. Or both.
  13. Looks legit. Reebok replica circa 2009-11 (or whenever the WCHA patch moved up front).
  14. I was thinking that Ladd went the rest of the way. Thanks!
  15. Anyone seen or heard an update on the injured Canisius goalie? I assumed from the brief glimpse shown on TV that it was superficial and not too serious, but am wondering.
  16. Things are looking up. This is what happens when geolocation and clickbait collide. Internet advertising is just plain silly; skywriting would be more effective.
  17. UND, Grand Forks public closed Friday.
  18. It was preordained to fail. UA sucked up all the subsidy money and bailed in less than a year. Minimal marketing, minimal promotion. Casual fliers may not travel but once every 9-12 months. Give GFK a DEN option and an ORD option - and put in some effort and make a commitment - and I believe it will catch on. I can think of several instances over the past couple of years where UA's hubs/connections would have been far preferable for me to DL via MSP.
  19. And what if I want to stay for the second . and the third . ?
  20. The menu at Boss’ suffers a little bit from being too much. Literally, as the print gets kind of small. But the list of pizza selections alone should draw and hold your attention. Lots of specialty concoctions. Chicken was good. Moist and not too greasy. We liked the spicy option...you can mix and match so probably best to experiment and try both. Prices were fair, if not a tad high. I suspect coupons or loyalty programs would help. (I just remembered that I had a free pizza punch card at 1000 Degrees that never got redeemed.) Biggest problem by far is the seating arrangement. Way too few tables. They’ll need to fix this ASAP if they want to survive. Other service bugs are getting worked out. Combining table service with self-service drinks was a plus, because the staff was spread pretty thin. All in all, not a life-altering experience but we’ll go back.
  21. Office and retail. This town is gonna have more empty strips than a topless dancer with a double mastectomy.
  22. Funny thing about AMC. Rather than spend any money significantly rehabbing the complex, they glossed it “AMC Classic” (corporate speak for old and unrenovated) and show first-run movies at discount prices. Genius, really, especially if you don’t mind the vintage or have not been to the movies in major cities recently.
  23. I think it may be equal parts architecture and desire. The 4 corners of the Fargodome seem like they were either custom-built for dedicated signage, or retrofitted to maximize revenue. The Alerus is a very sterile environment that simply lacks the vertical real estate of the 'dome. But to be sure, I think that the leadership in Fargo has been very aggressive in monetizing that facility; the larger population, larger seating capacity, and success of the team are all factors.
  24. So, the perimeter of the garage wouldn't have worked for ventilation purposes? The garage is almost entirely open air. And you do realize how much square footage that brings into play?
