But that just leads to "green and white" and other abominations. Unofficial nicknames are no better than bad ones.

2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs talk
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to The Sicatoka's topic in Non-collegiate sports
This has to be historic...two teams in a single playoff went sweep-swept in successive rounds. And one of them was the sweeper before they were the sweepee. EDIT Double sweep historic, but not unprecedented. -

Hurricanes downgraded to tropical depression. -
I’ve always felt that the original was tastefully proportional to the arena. After all, one of the reasons the Ralph is the Ralph is because so few architectural details were missed. I remember after the fire; the higher resolution displays were certainly a nice upgrade, but I never felt like we needed more real estate up there. Bigger is not always better.

Looking to sell season tickets for 2019-2020 season
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to stewie's topic in Tickets wanted / for sale
With all of the talk about slumping attendance, disappointing team performance, and greatly reduced demand, it would be interesting if you could use the ‘19-20 season thread to keep us posted about how this goes. Periodic updates on things like frequency of nibbles, insane lowball offers, etc. Totally anonymously, of course, and if you’re not comfortable discussing actual dollars, you could refer to price in terms of expectation and reality (i.e., how much $$$ more or less you got than expected). Maybe even some of your experiences in trying to unload the tix as single-game over the past few years (assuming you did). You know, for science! -
"That's the right choice, mate." -- Steve Irwin, probably.

Will probably be working the drive-thru when the announcement comes that they are out of fries.

Agreed. What would it take for people to step back the next time they want to criticize a university president, or the high salary? I suspect that few understand how impossible that job really is, and the toll it exacts on many well-intentioned individuals who sign up.

Kudos to the B1G marketing folks for getting out in front of this. Love or hate the specific teams, it’s a cool concept.

UND not necessarily the ugliest s**t show in higher ed right now. https://newsok.com/article/5631228/sources-james-l.-gallogly-to-resign-as-ou-president Makes a 3-year tenure seem positively infinite by comparison. And OU’s guy was an alum and business executive with apparently no traditional academic credentials.

2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs talk

I’ve seen no discussion about this (hence, my light-hearted jab), but as good as it was for Hakstol to make the playoffs right out of the chute in Philly and dispel the myth that the college-to-NHL coaching transition was somehow impossible, what Montgomery did in Dallas has raised the bar considerably. I am in no position to assess whether the Stars job was inherently better or which coach had a greater impact as a rookie, but it’s actually a tremendous compliment to Dave (and the Flyers) for breaking down the wall. -

Second OT was strange while it lasted. DAL took all of the momentum, and STL darn near pi$$ed it away on a boneheaded sequence in their own end. Montgomery still ends up with more NHL playoff wins than Hak. -

Bishop has been unreal, as the Blues have really controlled play through the first 12 minutes of OT. -

And the carousel goes round and round. What’s your pleasure - swooping bird or cartoony bird? Full-body or head? Profile or down-the-beak? Wings spread? Talons out? ND or none? Simple for reproducibility or complex for aesthetics? You say it’s not rocket science, but it ain’t exactly easy, either. Dozens of people on here have debated the questions I just asked for years now and often until they were blue in the virtual face. Each question is maddeningly polarizing. I’ll save you the trouble: THERE IS NO ANSWER. NOTHING IS GOING TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. THE PERFECT LOGO DOES NOT EXIST. ART IS INHERENTLY SUBJECTIVE - ALWAYS HAS BEEN, ALWAYS WILL BE.

Nice for #29 to get a meaningless goal late, but the Isles just pulled off what has to be one of the rarest feats in all of sports: an 8-game postseason. -
Only if you put down some plastic.

So, the standard for a “good” logo is whether you encounter people who don’t recognize it? Wow. So I guess the Brien Sioux being confused with the Blackhawks was the death knell for that one. And the interlocking ND with Notre Dame...that one never stood a chance. Hate to say it, but right now Mark Kennedy being a controversial CU hire is 10000% more perceptible to the public than the Sioux, the Hawks, the Ralph, the 8 hockey titles, the campus, the academics, and everything else that you appear to think that UND is, combined. UND has an identity. UND is UND. UND will never have anything close to the brand recognition or market penetration of mid-level D1 schools, let alone professional sports franchises. And no logo will ever change that. Not understanding “identity” is why people can’t move on.
-
Everyone knew this was coming. Is it bad for the NDUS or Chancellor not to have issued a perfunctory statement? Are they gun shy after the Chancellor botched his letter to Kennedy so badly?
-
This was fast.

DISCLAIMER - I'm completely agnostic about Kennedy and Colorado, and I think the politicization of the CU process as I watched it unfold was a joke. But I'm curious...if you're a regent who will vote both resolutely and unanimously with your peers in private, but are so obviously willing to cave to public pressure, why on earth would you advance only a single candidate for further consideration? Especially if you're predictably in the ideological/political minority on the board? You've basically f**k-teased your constituents by pretending to care -- and will forever get to pass yourself off as a righteous and noble champion for the oppressed -- by casting what you knew all along would be a purely token vote, because thanks to you there wasn't a moderate or less polarizing choice given, let alone one to espouse your own preferred world views. Not only did you lose today, but you exposed yourself as an incompetent d-bag. Will anyone vote to reelect these people?
