  1. Per Schloss, The Gazelle Group, which runs the College Basketball Invitational, is gauging interest for a secondary college hockey postseason event. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/an-nit-for-college-hockey-a-group-is-exploring-the-idea Would likely be an additional revenue driver for the REA/UND, and it would give the younger guys additional ice time and game experience, which would help with the following year. The hockey team has higher goals, however, and I could see how they wouldn't be interested. Pretty sure some p5 schools don't participate in the basketball NIT, for example, because they feel like they are above it in a way. Could see how the coaches would feel the same way. Thoughts? Would/should UND participate?
  2. Here's another good one from Zombo at the beginning of the season. Tells the story of the water bottle incident at Wisconsin at 53:25. Pretty fun listen. https://ithswpodcasts.podbean.com/e/analytics and-eyeballs- se 1 ep-32- september-26-2022/ Another Zombo interview from a couple days ago about this weekend's series. https://ithswpodcasts.podbean.com/e/college-hockey-west-weekly- se-2-ep-27- january-3-2023/
  3. Gotcha. Kinda funny though..
  4. I kinda wonder if P5 guys will start accepting more low/mid major offers to gain playing time and experience prior to transferring to a P5 school. Think juniors/USHL for hockey. Even NHL draft picks play juniors while knowing they will probably leave college early, rather playing 4 yrs of college hockey. Would a guy like Klabo develop faster if he played at UND as a freshman vs riding the bench at a P5? Not saying whether or not this is or should his or UND's approach - it just crossed my mind. A p5 could also suggest that to a kid... telling them to play somewhere they will see the floor and then transfer with 1yr experience.
  5. This post is kind of ironic. Do you you mind specifying who "you" is?

  7. Kind of random, but did UND ever do anything to honor Bill Fitch in his passing? He was at UND for 5 years I believe. I ask because I don't remember seeing anything from UND about it, but I could have missed something. UND has a proud basketball history... curious if/how much basketball alumni are involved in any way with the program now days? History and tradition mean a lot to a lot of people, including former players, donors, and recruits. Could UND do better in this regard to improve the programs footing? Did J.J. Safranski play ball at UND for example?
  8. Gonna guess they weren't weather related.
  9. Umm, not only hockey. Pretty sure the women's basketball team just signed 3 and 4 star recruits who had other options in warmer climates. Football beats out Southern teams all the time. UND volleyball has historically recruited well enough to be a strong team, despite the weather. Actually, come to think of it, it's pretty amazing that UND has the enrollment it does when pretty much anyone can choose to go to a school in a warmer climate.
  10. Relative to the competition, does Deboer have better or worse facilities than Bubba? Despite the football team still not having a legit locker room (old one was going to be condemned) Bubba has put together a top 15 football program and the team is getting better and better. Program is still trending in the right direction whether you feel like admitting it or not. Program support matters just as much as coaching - see Stig for example. Bubba just crushed Petrino this year as well, in Petrino's third season, but coaching...
  11. Weak argument. Blame weather all you want but other programs (at UND) don't have an issue recruiting players who have other offers in better climates, and despite the hockey argument and the basketball team losing nearly every game, UND still has better attendance and fan support than 100 plus other programs in the country. No legit reason for UND to be a bottom 300 team. Yes they need better funding, but with the goal being Summit League Championships. Prior to the transfer portal rule change, other teams played by the same rules as we did and they were also able to keep players around longer, as well. UND isn't the only team to have more guys transfer out after the rule change - biggest difference is that we have a coach that hasn't seemed to adapt... with all the D1 guys in the transfer portal it's pretty crazy to see Sather start the same DII talent year after year.

  13. This is data from covid year where everything was cancelled
  14. yeah but that one is like a year old now. new ones are due to the ncaa by Jan 15th I think.
  15. I tried this a few years ago. It works if you are craving a fast food taco.
  16. Wilson? Although anyone that saw his hudl prob didn't think so. His juco coaching staff had to reach out to UND in order for him to get a D1 offer. Nobody in the country was interested in him. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  17. Especially with the transfer portal.
  18. Will you have a link again for today's game?
  19. Anyone know where to find the primary source for the NCAA's current NIL rules and guidance? I can't find it on the NCAA's website, but I know they have posted it somewhere.

  21. I stumbled upon this article. Given the current events it is somewhat interesting. Did Marlan Haakenson ever pursue the Fighting Hawks trademark thing? https://www.sayanythingblog.com/entry/former-bismarck-mayor-sends-letter-to-und-president-demanding-north-dakota-be-added-to-nickname-vote/
  22. Is Brady Stevens coming back? We need a kicker?
  23. Hot take: (This is in consideration of todays current environment with the transfer portal and nil etc..) I bet you if UND offered Hooker and Crandall coaching gigs, even with zero coaching experience, they could come in as a pair and do better than any coach we eventually end up hiring. Maybe get Jones back here with them for experience.. just go back to Ballin' like in the Huff days, maybe with a hint of Dunk City mixed in. Make UND a fun place for transfers to play at and build the fan base up a bit. UND doesn't have the fan base or location to continue with the old school, team building/slow pace/defensive basketball approach that suits a guy like Sather. Hope I'm wrong. I'd prefer Sathers approach if he can be successful and retain talent, but that's how I feel if he doesn't pan out. Seriously think that if I was AD, his continued employment would be dependent on if he can retain this years freshman recruiting class. If he can, I'd let him play out the last year of his contract next season to better determine if he is truly building something with legitimate potential. I don't think recruits care that much anymore whether or not a coach is at the beginning or the end of their contracts as much as they used to because in reality, it doesn't matter at all - coaches get fired or leave with multiple years remaining on their contracts all the time.
  24. Same. If I got to choose, it would be Baseball > LAX > Soccer. Greatly miss having a sport to watch in the spring/summer (besides softball). Would be awesome to have a little facility near the dorms for the students to walk over to. Baseball also has the potential to produce a few MLB guys as well (fun). But I think LAX would have the highest ceiling. If Lax, I'd build a smaller dedicated track and field facility like NDSU and kick T&F out of the HPC. LAX would play in the HPC with the new bleachers that are in there, and I'd finish the elevated walking track that was originally planned for standing room seating. Being that we live in reality, all excess funding should be pumped into basketball and volleyball. If our AD were to add an un-endowed sport, it would be a fireable offense, imo. (did golf ever raise their required endowment money?)
  25. Air Force! Our pres has a history there, tons of Alumni in Colorado, plus we're an aviation school. There a reason you mention Army, specifically that I'm not thinking of? That said, their stadium is defiantly a bucket list item... If not football, the same concept could potentially be used for basketball as well. Could even share a charter. WMU struggles to get D1 home basketball games just like us - they had 4 non D1 home games this year so such a setup could be mutually beneficial. Football would obviously be preferable. Biggest problem with Air Force and Army, and potentially others, would be arena size. If it were a non NCHC team, maybe a larger venue could be used and the hockey game would be treated as a Neutral Site game. If Air Force, for example, CC's old arena could be used instead of their home rink. Split ticket sales 50/50 for hockey with normal FBS football payout on top of that. Both schools could come out ahead. Hypothetically. With football be scheduled so many years in advance, something like this would be really tough to pull off though. Which is why I mentioned basketball. Could be a home and home thing and each team could use their home hockey arena.
