Would really feel terrible about that. Therefore, St. Thomas to replace Miami is my preference. Miami would walk away happily without a buyout. St. Thomas being in the league could potentially help to get Midco on to more cable platforms in the twin cities in addition to comcast. CC is kinda lame despite their history and how good they ever become. I like Western in the league over them. NCHC can be Northern Collegiate Hockey League.

Depends on if they will add Mankato and/or St. Thomas and/or drop Miami within the next few years. If none of the above, move to campus sites.

This is exactly my thoughts.

I think the only change from last year is how OT is handled, since OT moved to 3 vs 3. I believe this is what the pairwise would have looked like with last years formula. As of 2022-23, OTs are all 3-on-3, and thus an OT win is only counted as 0.6666 of a win, and 0.3333 of a loss. Change the weightings here as you see fit.

I don't mind the concept of more of an nchc style setup, but you're overestimating on campus attendance.

These high school games are reffed so much better than college hockey is these days... How many 5 min majors would have been called so far this tournament if it was reffed like the NCAA, one or two a game?
-
For having zero clue about what you're talking about, you sure seem to have a strong opinion about this. #1 The horizon league was forced out of Little Ceasars arena (and into their current format) because they had terrible attendance. 2# The Summit league draws nearly double the Horizon League mens tournament, and probably more than triple if you include women. #3 The Horizon League, no matter the seeding, hosts the final rounds in IUPUI's HOME ARENA. #4 You say it's a joke that Tulsa didn't play in Tulsa, while at the same time you say you like the Horizon format? If ORU was in that league, not only would they still not be in Tulsa, but they would be in a conference member's home arena rather than a neutral site...
-
You first said that it was "a joke" that the championship game wasn't in Tulsa, now you vaguely mention "campus games". Are you trying to move the goal posts already? Seems you're now referring to first round games now instead of the championship. Which is it?

You're the one complaining... do the work.

Pretty sure a change was made by the NCAA that finally allowed the ACHA teams to play NCAA D1 teams - may have been a result of the Canadian border being closed due to Covid. As such, I think we will see more ACHA/NCAA matchups moving forward, and the programs that that can show they are competitive will be the ones that get more games. In regard to ACHA programs and expansion, a name to keep an eye on is Roosevelt, which is an NAIA school located in downtown Chicago that apparently is moving up to D2 NCAA. They currently have ACHA D1 and D2 teams listed on their official athletics website (U Mary does this as well). There isn't any evidence to suggest that they currently plan to move hockey up to NCAA D1, and they have a bunch of other Men's sports it looks like, but I figured I would mention them since they are in the perfect location for the CCHA and their arena is somewhat passable - it's off campus, but it apparently seats 3,000, is the former Blackhawks practice rink, and the Chicago Steel played their until 2015. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edge_Ice_Arena https://www.roosevelt.edu/stories/news/roosevelt-exploring-ncaa-division-ii-membership#:~:text=Upon application and acceptance as,league competition in 2024-25. Their president has spent time at St. Cloud State, Northeastern, and Denver, so he has some exposure to D1 hockey, as well. https://theorg.com/org/roosevelt-university/org-chart/ali-malekzadeh

I'm not convinced that St. Thomas will leave that quickly. And Augi isn't joining the Summit League unless Dakota schools leave.

Speaking of hockey, listen to this podcast starting at 40:40. Good info before that as well, but the Alaska coach talks about the independents and why they haven't created a conference yet.

Maybe there were changes that he would have made to improve the performance, but since he wasn't DC, such changes weren't made? Look at Freund for example. Our offense was generally pretty bad when he was an assistant coach under Rudolph. Now we know that his philosophy was completely different than his OC. Does he coach like Rudolph? Do we know what the new DC's thoughts are? Given that he was a DB coach, maybe he is sick of seeing the DB's left out on an island and knows what changes to make. Maybe he has differing opinions from the former DC about other aspects of the defense. Guessing you guys don't know one way or the other. Let the guy at least speak first...

Why don't you make a new thread and rip on the AD or whoever else then instead of the coaches?

Drake would not be part of any new conference put together with FBS intentions. I think this will be more along the lines of Chicago State to the Pioneer and Morehead(football) to the OVC. Maybe add WIU or Youngstown to the OVC as well. If the Summit IS actually going to add football, it could be about that I suppose. Interesting that he says "league" rather than "conference". Also interesting that he singles out an individual school and league, while at the same time it sounds like there may be news about others. Chicago State and Pioneer is my guess.
-
I think that would be earth shattering, relatively speaking. UNI publicly shows their foia requests and he did actually request docs from them last week. But basic stuff that he does for a lot of schools. Ncaa financial reports, coach contracts, and nil info.

It's common knowledge that the NHL did 5 NHL feasibility studies, correct? Meke Snee, the Director of College Hockey Inc who helps to arrange these studies, was on a podcast recently. He sated the specific number of NHL feasability sudies that have been conducted since the program started in 2014. That number was 11. That's way more then pretty much everyone was thinking, isn't it? https://thecoachessite.com/beyond-the-xs-and-os-podcast-minnesota-hockey-development-model-mike-snee/

https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/louisville/2018/07/10/university-louisville-ice-hockey-campus/769693002/ Ok, this article from 2018 makes me even more curious as to how old this rendering is.

This is an interesting article from 2016 about Stony Brook. It highlights the headwinds that face college hockey and expansion. Presidents and AD's just don't want to take a risk or upset existing boosters to other programs, imo. https://stonybrookhockey.com/stony-brook-press-discusses-rink-on-campus-possibilities-with-the-university/ Excerpts: “I don’t want to add a sport just to add a sport,” Heilbron (AD) said. “It has to make sense for our program as a whole. We have to have a facility for them, but we also have to be able to win and be competitive.” Hall (former player) said that the idea of building an ice rink on the campus has been floating around since the 1980s. “I did a lot of research at one point and someone offered to build a rink on campus and it got turned back late in the 70s, early 80s.” “I would be reluctant to do that in this point and time,” Stanley (president) said. “From an economic standpoint, I don’t see [an ice rink] happening.” (article from 2016 mentioned $20M estimate for 4K arena) "In order to determine whether an on-campus ice rink would be economically beneficial, the school would have to conduct a research study." “To my knowledge, there hasn’t been a formal study done on hockey,” Heilbron (AD) said. “I know it’s something that’s always out there as a question, so I think to say it’ll never happen would be very shortsighted on my part.” “We’ve had people identify themselves and say they can raise the money,” Heilbron (AD) said. “It comes back to President Stanley and what his vision is for the university.” "Heilbron (AD) has concerns that if the school were to enter the NCAA, it would have trouble finding competition in the northeast." (not anymore, if ever) “There’s a limited number of schools throughout the country that play [hockey],” he said. "The northeast region of the United States is a hockey hotbed, however. In the Atlantic Hockey Division of Men’s Division one Hockey, there are currently 11 teams that Stony Brook could play whose schools are accessible by bus. Those include Holy Cross, Mercyhurst, Canisius, Sacred Heart and more. “In the northeast, the popularity of hockey is tremendous,” Heilbron (AD) said."
