The reason for either expansion of the betty or renovation of the hyslop is scheduling purposes and recruiting. (Ralph would not be suitbable for basketball in the long run, in my opinion) Advantage of hyslop is intimacy and TRADITION... wouldn't you want to play in the same arena Phil Jackson had?

Hey sorry, kinda random but I can't stop thinking about it.... With the growing population in GF and the ever increasing student population, plus the addition of Big Sky interest.. I must believe that one day mens basketball may outgrow the Betty. Assuming there is money for a renovation, would it be possible to renovate the hyslop to be suitable for division 1 basketball? Looking through all the pictures of old fieldhouses on the web like Kansas and Minnesota, I'd have to believe that the hyslop could become not only a great basketball facility, but a destination just as the Ralph is. The hyslop can hold more than a thousand more people than the Betty and the atmosphere would be ten times greater with the fans right on top of the action (love the second deck). I'm imagining somethiing like Montana's Dahlberg arena.. Gotta at least admit it would be kinda cool?! Be nice

This brings up an important point. This is a university football team yes? Most who attend the university are young, and a major problem at the football games has been lack of attendance and spirit from the students. Perhaps we need some flash to get the students more involved, despite how much older people such as yourself may dislike a non traditional color. I think grey and green would look pretty good by the way

My roommates and I happened to drive by the accident scene on our way back up to school. Very sad, roads were terrible. Had that night had gone any differently, I can't help but think how my parents could be feeling as terrible as the parents of these young women. Things like this remind me not to take my life for granted.... these girls will be in my prayers.

So when can we expect to see a sketch of what this new turf will look like? Very excited! Anyone have an idea?

This is why the whole situation is rather comical. Our University is still named after a Sioux tribe regardless of what the PC’s hope to accomplish with the death of our historic logo. They plan to place sanctions on us even with the (possible) implementation of a state law, making it illegal to be anything but the Sioux. They might as well make us change the name of our university as well. Same logic really….

I completely understand where you’re coming from, but I just don’t believe it is a logical decision. Basketball and hockey arenas tend to play host to both sports nation-wide. Although I have never personally been in the arena, I have seen pictures, and it appears as if the sightlines and atmosphere would be outstanding. Also, couldn’t the new practice facility potentially be in the way of an addition to Memorial Stadium as you say the the Old Ralph may be? I understand tearing the arena down if there were no other possible locations for the practice facility; I don’t know if that is indeed the case or not. Is there enough room for the practice facility just south of Memorial Stadium/Old Ralph? Concerning costs to renovate the arena for future basketball use, and I am no expert, but I assume it would be much cheaper than building a new arena if we (hopefully) were to outgrow the Betty.

Would the University of North Dakota - Dakota be hostile and abusive?

I’ve had a difficult time coming up with names to replace the “Fighting Sioux”, unfortunately all fail in comparison. However, I believe a name with some link to the waterfowl hunting in our area would be appropriate. It’s too bad Oregon has taken the “Ducks” because it is a wonderful logo… perhaps something like the “______ Geese” or “Hunters” would work. (is there a name for those who hunted bison back in the day? )

Does it not bother anyone that the old ralph will most likely be torn down? After some renovations, would this not be an amazing venue for the basketball team 10 years down the road? Edit: Pardon me for being somewhat off topic.
