Right, that's what I said, when I said: "Pretty clear Freund didn't leave because of money". Which is different than paying him enough to stay because of money.. UND eventually offered more, but too late, and not enough.
-
You think SDSU would have approached him to be a position coach if he was already making 130K? I doubt it. They'd have to offer him as OC.
-
From what I can tell, Freund had a signed contract to coach at UND this coming year for 104K. SDSU is paying him 105K. I think UND tried to counter after that, but I don't know how much more they were willing to pay. SDSU's new OC will be making 115K this year, only 10K more than Freund. Pretty clear Freund didn't leave because of money. However, more money could have probably prevented serious talks about coaching as a SDSU position coach from developing. Probably wouldn't have even take that much more either, if they would have been willing to pay him what he was worth from the get-go. Also, Landry was hired at 100K. So that actually kind of pisses me off if UND was only willing to pay Freund 4K more than a replacement. UND under valued Freund, clearly.

I think you mean Weems.

I've been curious about the missing BB highlights as well. Midco Sports Plus has a section for highlights and interviews on their website, but from my last recollection, it was nearly all USD stuff. Given that the schools are responsible for the broadcasts, I'd think the same would be true for traditional highlight packages, bu that's a complete guess. I don't know how NCHC.TV does it, but they figured out a system to get highlights released on their streaming website right away, but I don't know if that is the schools or the league putting those together either.

I don't mind the Alston thing if that's the route they want to go, but I understand I may be in the minority there. Helps with overhead and the athletic department doesn't lose control of the money, and coaches can legally make direct promises for it during recruiting. I don't think large NIL pay-for-play deals are usually any larger at our level than what we would pay out in Alston Funds anyway, and Alston funds can be tied to a player staying at UND. Nothing is stopping a local business from working out an NIL deal with a student athlete either. That said, UND could better promote the 701 fund. In total, I think they said they are budgeting about a million dollars for this, and that is probably more than any FCS athletic department has for NIL. The total value for the stars may be smaller, but the funding should be spread throughout the roster more and help with depth, I'm guessing. UND needs to get on the NIL train for merch/jersey's pronto though. It's legit, and especially for hockey, it has a ton of potential to generate meaningful money. UND has a RFP out for a new jersey deal, so hopefully that is being considered (I think it is).

Not necessarily the exact thing you're asking for, but UND could learn a thing or two from NDSU.. click around their teammakers and giving day web pages and then compare what they have to the champions club. I think UND could benefit in revamping however they do fundraising for athletics, and this is probably more on the Alumni Association than anything, but it seems like the Champions Club is kind of forgotten under the arm of the Alumni Association. Would UND benefit by the Champions Club becoming it's own entity? Because it seems to me that the champions club doesn't really do anything other than collect season ticket fees. For example, it doesn't appear that they publish an annual report anymore, which showed membership numbers, how much money was raised, scholarship costs, the different funding methods to pay for scholarships, etc. Not trying to throw anyone under the bus or anything... serious question. Self evaluation doesn't have to be a bad thing. Just seems like there are too many cooks in the kitchen with the Alumni Association, Champions Club, Athletic Department, and the REA for things to be run efficiently. Just an observation... not trying to throw anyone under the bus! I believe you were involved with things like the SS fundraising drives for FB... I bet you they could raise some money for a cool feature or two for the new FB facility if they asked, for example. I'm not in position to attend many games right now, so I'd much rather put money towards a specific thing than towards the general champions club fund - I'd give more if there were something tangible or more specific to fundraise for. I'm not an insider though and almost all of my money goes to daycare now, so what do I know, but there's got to be room for improvement. https://www.ndsugivingday.com/giving-day/76023/leaderboards https://gobison.com/sports/team-makers https://undalumni.org/champions-club/index.html SDSU has an impressive website as well https://www.backthejacks.com/get-involved/index.html#ways-to-support https://www.backthejacks.com/capital-projects/index.html https://www.backthejacks.com/sports/football/index.html cc Brochure_16-17.pdf CC-Brochure_2021_WEB.pdf

I think this is a situation where I think the outside experience thing should probably come into play.
-
It could also be an assumption, or he could have misinterpreted someone's speculation as fact. It's also not unreasonable to assume that someone may have given Freund that advise, or that could have been Freund's reason for leaving, while at the same time Bubba and the athletic department wanted him to stay. I do know for a fact that the athletic department wanted him to stay.
-
I thought that's what the last extension was. Could also see that being the reason Freund left. 100% guessing.
-
Thank you. That was the point I was trying to make. UND being viewed as a second class athletic department doesn't bode well for the future... Gonna get left behind.

Up to where?
-
Can someone ask Chaves why he extended a 5-6 coach if he didn't have the money to buy him out?
-
Are you able to elaborate on that? This article seems to only be about a naming rights agreement, and the state of ND seems to be involved with the Thread investment and any future investment? I get where you're coming from, and I wouldn't want to partner with the guy, personally, but I'm not aware of any scandals with him. What seems shady about this?
-
But FCS playoffs lose money don't they? Football teams are probably much more expensive to fly, and fcs is supposedly going to 16 seeded teams nextvyear. I think I read or heard somewhere that a Penn State staffer crunched the numbers and this system would generate an extra million or so a year, on average, as well. I think there's a strong argument to seed 1-16.
-
I think Roehl was also going to coach the O-line, wasn't he? Could be wrong.
-
SD salary lookup tool lists Freund's salary at 105K. Not sure if that includes benefits.
-
Did I read that Joe and Landry coached together at some point?
-
63 tackles, 2 INT, and 5 passes defended. 2 and 5 seams low, no? I really don't know. Is there a ratio to expect for DB's or is that not really a thing? (I literally don't have a clue) If that is low, was that a player issue or scheme issue?
-
lol. My wife thinks we should move to GF because I seem to like it so much (I annoy her with random facts). This would actually make me consider that offer...
-
UNI game this year?

Did he pass away?

That was a FUN Series to watch! Love Geno Parish. Love the "student broadcast" talk in the beginning, which was obviously in defense of screwing up NDSU/UND (lol). Thought they were gonna address that specifically for a second.

I think Miami has a commitment issue and they should be kicked out of the league. Fiscal 2022 they somehow had a lower overall budget and lower travel budget than they did in 2016. Their NCHC.TV broadcast is probably a good indication of their current commitment level. Just kinda guessing, but pair that with the comments from their AD, and I don't think changing the coach will fix anything.
