  1. Yuck is a really powerful word choice... curious what makes you say that? Are there specific issues that worry you, or is there something about the concept that you find irredeemable? There are risks involved, but if the details can be worked out, I don't see how this doesn't have the potential to be a win-win opportunity. There are obviously pros and cons to this, but is a strong unified conference not appealing to you? FB and Hockey schools (including affiliate schools) would need to have some rules and assurances in place to protect their interests, particularly in regard to league membership, TV/Streaming deals, revenue distribution, tournament formats, and significant policy or strategic decisions. Patty Vivirito is retiring soon, so assuming football membership remains the same, it isn't like a bunch of MVFC staff would need to be laid off. The MVC schools in the MVFC may not care all that much as the main priority of the MVC schools is basketball, despite sharing staff with the MVC, the MVFC IS technically a separate conf. Hockey would benefit by having a larger voice when it comes to NCAA decision making and policy, and the league would benefit financially from several operational efficiencies that would reduce overhead. MVFC and Hockey are powers at their respective levels - combine that with Summit basketball and it would potentially make a major difference when it comes to bargaining power for TV/Media deals, and the league sponsorships would likely be much more appealing to national sponsors (which I don't think any of the leagues really have).
  2. The Summit League wouldn't need a new member right now if they sponsored FB. Missouri Valley Conf teams benefit from the prestige of being associated with the best FCS FB conference (MVFC), despite Summit Teams doing all the leg work (winning). Missouri Valley Conference employees operate the MVFC and they have done bare minimum, as the MVC and member schools are basketball focused. They have done nothing to improve exposure for the league and they don't care enough to even host an in person media day before the season starts (compare that to what the NCHC and Fenton/Summit League did. The Summit would be 10x more stable if they sponsored Hockey and FB. Summit League has National FB and Hockey powers but none play in the Summit - merging both would help a ton when it comes to TV/Media deals and league sponsorships, and it would help a ton to improve the leagues image and reputation. Josh Fenton is a better commissioner than Heather Weems and Patty Viverito. MVFC didn't explore TV options beyond ESPN before renewing/signing a new long term TV/Streaming deal with them. Talk about negotiating from a position of weakness.. by choice.
  3. Now I know! Appreciate the information.
  4. UND and NDSU seem to be working together more when scheduling games, which seems to have helped a little bit. Hopefully that can continue - kind of a non-conf travel partner, which helps make trips out to the Dakotas more cost effective for other D1 programs.
  5. I've always like the idea of pairing up with hockey opponents. For example NDSU played at WMU this year, and WMU may be headed back to Fargo for a return trip at some point. Get WMU to the Betty, and stuff the basketball team onto the hockey charter when they head out there in a couple years. Not sure how much room is on the plane, but if they travel together ya gotta think there could be some benefit of efficiency. Could play a second game while out there, in addition to WMU.
  6. So, how exactly does this affect the Alerus Center? Seems like all the money is going towards this new rec facility. Are there any plans for how this tax extension will be used to keep the Alerus Center up to date? I kinda feel like there is a little bit of a bait and switch, but that said, I don't know the details... anyone have any insight on this? ------------ NOVEMBER 14, 2023 SPECIAL ELECTION The City of Grand Forks held a special election on November 14th, 2023 where citizens voted to extend the 3/4% sales tax currently collected for the Alerus Center beyond the 2029 sunset date and use those funds for both Alerus Center Capital Maintenance Projects and the construction of an indoor turf, aquatics & court facility.
  7. Good point. Wonder how GF ranks in hotel rooms per capita, compared to other cities.
  8. Sponsored by ND Tourism.
  9. Still doesn't answer "why". You're not the deepest thinker are you?
  10. Disingenuous straw man argument. I didn't win - we both lost. Communicating with you was a complete waste of time.
  11. Is that your answer? Because... "others don't"? If other schools jumped off a bri Please try again. Why, specifically, is it a bad idea for UND to schedule a non conference or exhibition game vs NDSU? It's not a stupid question to ask, especially given our scheduling issues.
  12. I get that. I'm asking for specific reasons. Just saying NO isn't really contributing anything of value. Why not teach us why so the topic doesn't continue to get brought up?
  13. For a conference that loses most of it's D1 non conference games, how much, specifically, would a few extra conf vs conf games hurt? Say it's even just one extra vs NDSU every year. Is there any evedence to suggest that it would actually affect the conference negatively? Because it's not like this is FCS football. The Summit is a one bid league. If anything, the extra revenue would probably make more of a difference in the long run, imo. The incremental ticket revenue gained from playing NDSU vs a Mayville could go towards getting non conf D1 oppenents to the betty, or it could go towards the assistant coaches salary pool, food for the team, etc. At least a NDSU vs UND game keeps the conf winning percentage at .500 for the game. If that's a problem, play THEM in the exhibition game to kick off the year.
  14. Huge report on the viability of Simon Fraser Football, and athletics in general. Really interesting. Basically they will be creating a new strategic plan and will be restructuring the athletic department. Huge budget issues. If hockey ever happens, it's likely it will have to wait until this plan is complete. Seems hockey would be more viable than resurrecting FB, IMO. https://athletics.sfu.ca/news/2023/9/18/statement-on-special-advisors-report-on-football.aspx Statement on Special Advisor's Report on Football September 18, 2023 Bob Copeland, Senior Vice-President of McLaren Global Sport Solutions, appointed by SFU as an independent special advisor to explore options for a sustainable future of football at the university, has made his findings public today. The report can be found here: https://www.mclarenglobalsportsolutions.com/pdf/SFU-SpecialAdvisorReport-9-18.pdf The report is extensive. The findings confirm that SFU has no place to play football in the NCAA or in the United States. The report highlights that opportunities for SFU football in Canada need careful consideration. An application to U Sports would be a significant investment with no guaranteed outcome. Further, the matter of dual membership in two leagues would add new challenges. The university acknowledges that a key finding of the report is that we must develop a strategic plan for Athletics and Recreation that will guide decision-making as we strengthen supports for varsity programs. Some of the recommended changes are already underway, but it will take time to thoughtfully review the report and determine next steps as its suggestions impact the entire program, which includes 16 varsity teams and nearly 300 student-athletes. "On behalf of the entire SFU community, I would like to thank Mr. Copeland for the depth and thoroughness of his work, including his extensive engagement with student-athletes, coaches and staff, as well as football alumni and industry experts," says SFU President Joy Johnson. "I recognize that the findings of this report may not be what the football community had hoped for, but Mr. Copeland has made clear that our starting point now must be setting the right foundation for Athletics and Recreation." "Our dedication and support for SFU student-athletes remains our priority," says Rummana Khan Hemani, SFU Vice-Provost, Students and International. "The report is based on more than 240 interviews that shed light on areas that require a deeper look. As we work through these findings with our student-athletes, coaches and staff, we will keep the community updated. We are committed to creating a stronger Athletics and Recreation program for our students and the SFU community."
  15. I'm waiting for pause and rewind features and the ability to start an in progress game from the beginning. Simple stuff. I would like to see the MVFC move to the Summit at the same time as hockey, though. Would be irritated if UND made a move that benefited the other Dakota schools in any way, if they weren't willing to follow suit for their number 1 programs. Seperately, I don't like the MVC name being propped up by the success of Summit League schools either.
  16. Touche. I hope you're wrong.
  17. My post was about development of the QBs for 2024. Your post is off topic - see thread title.
  18. Would have been nice if the coaches would have given them some more snaps in some of our massive blowouts. One of the things that has bugged me the most about this coaching staff.
  19. I haven't read the last few pages. But this place is becoming a cess pool and it would be great if we could do our best to not drive people away. It's great to have an opinion, but people have become much more disrespectful over the past year or so... this isn't twitter.
  20. If midco improves their app it would be nice to see them add the NCHC and CCHA. The money UND gets from NCHC.TV is nice though. It will be interesting to see how many subscribers ASU brings as well. Does anyone know when the current CBSSN deal ends?
  21. I think a third game, vs NDSU, played annually in Bismarck could be kind of a neat idea. Would be a way to showcase the state universities to North Dakotans who live farther West. Could make it a neutral site tournament potentialy as well, sponsored by ND Tourism or something.
  22. For those that may be interested, I found a database from USA today that has the current salary of 1,100 FBS assistant coaches. https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/assistant
  23. Per Massey, UND had a better defense than him this year. https://masseyratings.com/cf/ncaa/ratings
  24. I'd take wildcard Bochenski over Chyzk or Bubba.
  25. I think they have the backing of the state. They're building a 8K seat, 100 million dollar basketball complex, apparently.
