  1. To a degree, but Mankato is a great program and it looks like Augi will be, as well. Bemidji isn't really all that bad either. League would be fine. Ideally, St. Thomas would already be in the SL for hockey before they have the chance to consider leaving for basketball. Make the decision to move to a conference like the MVC more difficult. Goal would be to keep them in the conference, because the SL doesn't have anyone desirable on deck to fill their place.
  2. Good to see them taking action, but given their vision, the price estimate is probably 10 million too low, minimum, and that's being optimistic. Watertown's arena was just built for 36 million.
  3. ASU is completely different than a hypothetical St. Thomas team in the Big East. I'd gladly strand them on an Island and invite Mankato, Bemidji, and Augie before taking a St. Thomas program that left the Summit League. They should know that they are never getting an invite if they leave the SL for the MVC, which would be a necessary step that would need to be taken prior to any consideration from the Big East.
  4. Not a chance. They have an extremely proud FB tradition. More like Butler.
  5. I think this is a new rendering for st. thomas's hockey locker room https://crawfordarch.com/projects/anderson-arena/
  6. Nobody thought the MAC had UMass lined up until the school presidents voted on it. Likewise, Fenton isn't going to broadcast anything that isn't official. Is anything lined up? We will find out.
  7. If Miami didn't even want ASU, in a single sport, I don't see how MAC schools would be interested in sending all their teams to Fargo. NDSU has nothing to offer them.
  8. I would've paid a couple hundred more, at least, to be that close to campus.... Especially if you would otherwise have to park outside, not having to drive to campus and then find parking during the winter would be a huge game changer.
  9. Would be pretty cool if UND could reserve or rent one or two for assistant coaches.
  10. @forksandspoons Thanks for the link. More pictures here. https://www.dakotacommercial.com/apartment-building/memorial-village-1/
  11. Even if it would, it would require a heck of a lot of work, and they would have to cover the ice, etc.
  12. Link? Can't blame the REA if it's them.
  13. Too bad the brick from Memorial Stadium and the dorms that were tore down couldn't be reused.
  14. The REA doesn't operate the hockey program. What the 52% is used for is spelled out in the usage agreement. My issue is with the REA retaining net income instead of distributing all of it to UND (less the money needed for day to day operations and money that goes to Repairs/Maintenance/Enhancement Fund).
  15. @cberkas, thanks for linking that. I'm critiquing the journalism but that doesn't mean that I don't think you shouldn't have posted this or anything... more info, sources, tidbits of info about this stuff, the better, imo) News reporters almost everywhere are trash.... this is the first time I've seen any mention of the University itself being officially involved, and the writer doesn't cite the source or anything about how they are involved. Is this a development? Who knows! The reporter says the club is ACHA D2 but then he doesn't specify between ACHA D1 or NCAA D1, perhaps because he doesn't know ACHA D1 is a thing? How do they have a chance of becoming D1? We all know it takes more than an arena - did he talk to anyone at the University? "However, thanks to the support of boosters and supporters of both North Carolina hockey and of the university itself, the UNC club ice hockey team might just have a chance at becoming a Division I program in the near future."
  16. Seems Stonehill his actually working on a new arena. They said in the past that they would potentially build an arena if they received a conference invite. AHA recently accepted new applications and according to Mike McMahon, he thinks there may be movement on that front. I also saw a tweet from Guage A. about how bad their arena is, and a JLG guy said that he was working on it (wonder what that could mean). https://www.collegehockeyinsider.com/p/mailbag-pod-24-whats-the-deal-with Robert Morris coach was on the College Hockey West podcast recently, and he seemed to think that there will be a conf realignment shakeup in the AHA, and college hockey in general, but he didn't know when, and it was hard to tell if he was saying that just because of the broader issues within the NCAA, in general.
  17. I think the CCHA has a bright future, assuming there aren't major shakeups with conf realignment. BG will be back, and I believe they are planning or in the process of a small renovation, Mankato THE Minnesota State, Tech have solid programs, and Augie and St. Thomas both have bright futures. It will be fun to see how the top of the conference shakes out over the next few years, but I think we will see a nice 3 way rivalry develop between Augie, St. Thomas, and MN State. The two new private schools will hopefully push everyone in the league to improve. Ferris really needs to renovate their arena or build new, as well. They have the enrollment to do it, and if they could improve their facility that would help the league a ton. Given that Lindenwood cut about 9 programs, its apparent that they will be able to invest more into hockey as well. If they can become more competitive over the next couple years, anyone think the CCHA would be interested in giving them an offer? I could see them as an eventual NCHC program, if they build the program and fan base up enough to move into family arena...

  19. Speculating, but I believe Dom's show is part of the WDAY/NDSU media deal, similar to how Paul and Tim have a morning show.
  20. Given that Universities run hospitals, I wonder if it would be feasible for the flight school to run a small airline. I know the likely answer, but interesting to think about.
  21. I'd be fine with it if at the same time they slashed the buyout.
  22. I filed a FOIA request for FB contracts and received a response Feb 7th. As of Feb 7th, he hasn't been extended. His last extension was signed Feb 23rd, 2022, so I'm not saying gfhockey is wrong, just that it hasn't happened (yet?).
  23. Problem there is lack of planning time. At least if pairwise is used, programs know if they will be in the mix way ahead of time.
  24. https://www.uscho.com/stats/attendance/division-i-men/ There's currently 16 schools that have an attendance average of 5,000 or greater. Looking back to 2001, there has never been a season with 16 schools averaging 5,000 or more at the end of the year. EDIT: Schools over 3K may be a record as well. I didn't check for every year though. Right now there are 31, and last year there were only 25 at year end.
  25. He was able to make a non-money decision because the difference in pay was insignificant. Also, if he was paid more, SDSU wouldn't have been able to afford to match/exceed his UND-OC salary, with an offer as a position coach. He didn't take a pay cut to go from an OC at UND to a position coach at SDSU.
