  1. I'm going with an old standby 4-2 UND, with an empty netter to seal the deal. Bonus pick: Union 3 BC 2
  2. This is a blatant overreaction, which unfortunately has been a theme here (Beer Grandma anyone?), if people seriously thought that those girls at Gamma Phi were putting that banner up to be racist, I have some oceanfront property to sell you in North Dakota. This could have been handled differently and would not lead to as much disgruntlement that is on campus currently. Oh, and the President has said in the past they he would not prevent people from wearing Sioux gear (I have personally heard this and read newspaper articles back in 2010).
  3. So let me get this straight. NoDak Nation, the reason these sheets are being hung to begin with, puts on a contest. In the rules it states they have to be clean (but you would think they would screen them in advance before putting them out there). Before this, I am sure they had have talks about what was acceptable vs not acceptable for sheets with administration. So the banner gets put up, and gets tweeted. Don't you think if there was any problem with it another student organization would have not retweeted it across the UND sports digital media? If they thought for 1 second that this would cause an issue, would they have hit send? edit: I am in no way shape or form blaming NoDak Nation, this was a great idea for this contest, I am just stating that if they had rules by the administration, and they felt that this sign did not break the rules, then they felt it was okay to send this sign across social media.
  4. Looks like we are raiding the same JUCO we got Traylor from. Can score from both inside and out and is athletic.
  5. You folks have to deal with a younger story Coming from the Southwest corner of Minnesota, I hadn't heard much of UND or Fighting Sioux Hockey. The stories of UND I heard was the old days of the NCC where USD/SDSU/NDSU and UND all battled in football and basketball from my dad and grandpa (and all of the dead animals you can throw). I was a basketball and football guy. My High School did have hockey, but it was ranked well behind both basketball teams, football and volleyball. (our girls hockey teams made state a couple times while I was in HS). I wasn't a very big hockey fan, so of course after visiting a few colleges, I made my decision to attend UND. I came on campus in the Fall of 2009 and quickly adapted to the culture. I went to football, volleyball and basketball games like I always have. I had heard stories from my dad, who had toured the Ralph on business, just how nice it was. I knew that I wanted to get tickets and learned more about the hockey team. My freshman year was the infamous year where the ticket department decided to have a camp out for the tickets. Lets just say for about 4 hours in a hot sun, crammed butt to gut just to get into the single file line, to get the wristband to hold your spot in line. Sleeping in the uncomfortable ground, getting woken up at 130 in the morning to check your wristbands and being hearded out. The morning after seeing all the beer cans, passed out people, people running shoeless to McDonalds to get breakfast while in line. Running on 4 hours of sleep, it was all worth it as I got my season tickets (which of course was the opposite of the people of my floor). I went home for the 1st series to take care of a few loose ends, but awaited the next weekend. UND/Minnesota... I rocked my white out shirt as I stood in line and got immediate schooled on the ins and outs of Sioux Hockey. When 607 came, I got my first taste of the Ralph.... and I loved it. I got my spot in lower and watched UND stomp a mud hole into the Gophers. The Beer song, the band, the Sioux Yeah Yeahs. I maybe not have been a hockey guy back then, but I knew about tradition. After that game, it was set. Over the past 5 years I have seen a lot of highs and lows, memories and friends made, and voices lost. Watching the Pony Express leading us to the Frozen 4, but then having my heart broken in the dorms watching them lose to Michigan. Having the Final 5 included in my TV watching as I watched March Madness. Watching them getting 3 straight Broadmoors, all the fights with the Gophers, Badgers, Pios. Being apart of a group that brought signs for Mark Mac, Mitch Mac, MacWilliams, Rocco, Knight, and Yes even Tate. The painful loss against Yale. Buying my Black Sioux Jersey and then a black bomber hat to match. The night we broke out the Business Suits at home against St. Cloud my Sophomore year and putting up 5 goals in the 1st period was nuts. Last year the Badger game where the dead Badger was chucked on the ice.Even in the new conference I know who is who. I have added UND hockey to my vast knowledge of sports. My biggest accomplishment was of course getting my girlfriend hooked too, Halloween Weekend 2011 against St. Cloud. Like me, she was hesitant, but by the end of the night she was hooked too. She came with me from time to time, and learned by my side. As time as passed and I have aged and my friends have graduated or will graduate, I look back fondly and wouldn't trade it for the world. I look forward to next year getting season tickets, graduating hopefully next Spring with my Masters, and looking to come back from time to time to take in a game. As long as the Blue Moon is flowing of course
  6. Later when Patterson got shelled, we all yelled out JUST LIKE KANGAS!!!!
  7. I think we play San Jose State next year, Wyoming is the year after that.
  8. Me thinks that if Rosario didn't get dinged up for a PED violation, he might have gotten a crack at spring training and they wouldn't have brought Bartlett. Would rather had Hermann who was hitting near .400 this spring.
  9. I think the study is pointless based on what their criteria was. How many links you have on a Wikipedia page. Plus anyone can go in and add stuff to it at any time. Its the equivalent of saying who is more popular based on how many facebook friends you have. Its how the U of M is so far ahead of everyone because Bob Dylan went to school there for 1 year.
  10. It was more of an open ended question for those who think Jones should be fired and retained and wondered what would it take for the "hot seat" to cool. I could have worded it the question differently, but it is what it is. UND should consistently compete in the top of the Big Sky, that is my expectations. My frustrations with Jones is that he can do decent in conference, but struggle outside. Also get frustrated with some of the things he runs too (the full court press this year, Princeton offense in 2009-10 season). I personally don't think he will be fired or is on the hot seat unless next year really goes bad.
  11. So here is a question I pose to both sides of this debate. What will it take for Jones to get off his hot seat? If he repeats what he did this season, is it enough? If he wins 20 games and gets upset in the 1st round, does he get dismissed?
  12. There is a lot to like about tonight. They laid it all on the line tonight and that is all we can really ask for. I'll admit that this wasn't even in my wildest dream that these girls could go this far in the beginning of the year. Those Canadian Scrimmages in August really helped lay the foundation to the start of the year. Thank you Madi and Alyssa, for everything you have done and for all the hard work you have put in. Next year? Those two girls will be hard to replace. But I love our chances to get back to the NCAAs next year. Getting Lauck and Dillon back from injuries is huge. Lauck can give us leadership and the inside/outside threat. Josie can be the 3 point expert off the bench that we so desperately need. Evers will be the main girl at center, she will be a great leader on the court and will be a tough matchup for anyone, but between Roscoe, O'Toole, and Kiser someone needs to step up and help out Evers to make her successful. Szabla and Knox will only be better next year, Szabla need to take a little bit better control of the ball and work on her offense a little bit more. Knox just needs to stay steady. Dyer will need to be more consistent next year, but having her for a full year next year will be awesome. Siri will be another tough senior leader who needs to just pull the trigger from 3, she can make that shot. Mia... she is going to be special. She just needs to keep expanding her range. If she can start hitting 3's consistently... un-guardable. In all honesty, another Big Sky POY in the making. Oh, and after watching that Strand girl from Fergus this weekend? She will be in the rotation and will provide big minutes in the 2nd unit. She can score in multiple ways. The conference will be a war with Idaho now joining up, Montana will be tough next year, so will ISU, SAC, UNC. The Gophers come here next year, and we more than likely will head down to USD and NDSU, plus whatever ranked teams we play. I hope with the 2 extra games, 1 of them is to add SDSU next season. Big thing next year? Get another post to help Evers, get some outside shooting, and just keep up what you did from last year. Lets take the next step and start getting some more signature wins.
  13. No 14 or 15 seed has ever won an NCAA tournament game. A 16 seed has done it (1998) It will take a perfect game from UND to do it. They need to play their game and execute everything. They would also need to do what they haven't done well at year and hit outside shots. I would love for them to do it, it would be awesome and significant, but I am not expecting it.
  14. Wonder if Marquette will give Saul a call
  15. Record vs Montana on road/neutral 0-2 Record vs Weber State on road/neutral 0-4 Record vs Rest of Big Sky on road/neutral court: 13-6 the losses (SUU x2, UNC, Sac x2, PSU)
  16. Last year they made the Elite 8, which they got run out the gym by Louisville in the 2nd half. Of course that game will be more known for what happen to Ware.
  17. Defending champs are on the ropes with 4:16 to go. Would be a major upset consider a lot of people thought Louisville could make the Final 4.
  18. I do wish the band actually tried to lead in cheers like they used to. That would help.
  19. 1) No Yell Leader in hockey 2) No Band member has even tried to drown them out. Not once
  20. Strand scored 22 points on 7-24 shooting and 8-8 from the line. However her team was eliminated by Marshall 52-51 in the Class 3A state semis. She plays one more time against Minneapolis Washburn on Saturday at Concordia St. Paul. She looks legit, likes to take it to the rack and can hit the mid range jumper with ease. Very solid at the line. Marshall's press really bothered her in the 2nd half and she looked way off in the 2nd (only 1-12 from the field, but 8-8 from the line). She will be a very good player and I expect her to be in the rotation next year.
  21. Yup, always pick the smart kids. Still upset that OSU didn't pull that game out against Dayton. Stupid Craft
