GF Herald's Wayne Nelson calling UND "Green and White"
UNDBIZ replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in UND Nickname

Since the game is in the REA I would assume yes.
-
I can't remember who we were playing but I believe we lost the next home game after beating Montana. As far as I know that's the only one this year though so your post still makes a good point.
-
Oh now you hurt my feelings I hope you're at least able to get something out of being the loser who follows the one athletic kid he knows around campus acting like he's your best friend I think the reason we focus on Huff's poor play is because we know he has the talent to be a great player, but his mind/ego are getting in the way. This makes us angry because if he played to what we believe is his potential, UND would be a much better team and would be winning more games (or at least one on the road maybe). From some of your previous posts stating that Huff is the best player UND has ever seen, it would appear that you don't even know who Jerome Beasley is. Therefore, I conclude that you are 1. new to UND and 2. not very knowledgable about UND basketball.

UND/NDSU football commentary: You can't retire stupid
UNDBIZ replied to Hayduke's topic in UND Nickname
Just for the record, 8 of the 9 championships were won before the players on the AC's current team were even born. Congrats on this year's season though, NDSU was the best 1-AA team in 2011. -
UND/NDSU football commentary: You can't retire stupid

Why would the teams from California be better at hockey than Minnesota, Michigan, Boston College, or even Ohio St??? That's basically what you're saying when you say they'd be better than UND. Appalachian St..... oh yeah they're that team that upset somebody like 4 years ago right??? Yeah I can see why the recruits must just be swarming around that place now Georgetown and Villanova have football teams?? I just figured they were Bball-only schools. -
UNDsportsFanatic has a pretty serious man-crush on Huff. You just need to let it go.... regardless of how many shots the guy forces.

Based on his Twitter it appears he doesn't want to come here. Looks like his dad is pushing him to come here and now it's too late to change his mind. His "bruhs" (bros (friends)) are suggesting he transfer out after 1 year.
-
Ugh, hopefully he doesn't rob the Best Buy while he's up here.
-
"I was hoping for something better." Guy sounds like a douche. Hopefully his play can back up his talk.

And no I do not approve of dressing up as a Nazi and that was a poor decision by Ralph and those in attendance at the party.
-
Watchmaker, just because Engelstad had parties where people dressed up as Nazi's does not mean he loved Nazi's. I remember a few years ago certain UND students got in trouble for dressing up as Native Americans for a party. At that time, the consensus of the anti-nickname crowd was that they dressed up this way to make fun of Native Americans, not because they were "Native American loving freaks." You don't know the situation surrounding the "Nazi" parties any better than anyone else and neither do I, but I would bet they were taken well out of context.

Sledsters also has the 10 shots for $20 deal. I recommend not doing this unless you are with several friends.

Kelley / SBoHE Deceived the Legislature and ND People
UNDBIZ replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
I don't mean to nit pick, but it really isn't an 'or' situation. 1 and 2 could both be true (and probably are). -
Sioux2013 never mentioned who the most talented player on the team is. I have no doubt that Huff would be very good in 1-on-1 or a pick-up game, but he is struggling to play with the team right now. There is a difference between being a very talented basketball player and being a good basketball player.... something for you and Huff to think about.

Here's what I take from that email: 1. The Big Sky Presidents have been meeting/discussing the Sioux nickname issue. 2. The Big Sky Presidents are concerned about the Sioux nickname. 3. The PSU President informed President Kelley of these discussions. 4. President Kelley responded to the PSU President to reassure him (and the other Big Sky Presidents) that the issue would be resolved. 5. In an effort to calm the other Big Sky Presidents, President Kelley had to be clear and confident about what he (along with the rest of the sane people in North Dakota) believed would come about as a result of the meeting with the NCAA (nothing new). -
The hotel in the parking lot is a Sleep Inn, it was built as a cheaper alternative to staying at the Canad Inn. The Canad Inn has a couple decent bars in it. If you're looking for a louder/more vibrant scene you will want to go downtown. The best hotel for downtown would probably be the Townhouse. I've never stayed at the Townhouse, but it's an easy walk to the downtown bars. The Alerus Center/Canad Inn are about as far away from downtown as you can get in Grand Forks, but it's still not a bad drive/cab ride.

Care to refute the rest of my statement (I threw in the YSU comment as a joke, but I understand that humor in text form is often difficult to decipher, especially with all the people on the internet who make statements like that and actually believe them)? And I'm not trying to attack you here or anything, just acknowledging that both fan bases think they are better known than they really are.
-
I think this argument derives from NDSU fans screaming that the Bison are more well known than the Sioux due to their unbeatable football program (Youngstown St didn't beat NDSU, NDSU just played bad and lost). What most NDSU fans won't admit is that on a national scale, nobody cares about FCS football. Now, before you even bring it up, outside the large hockey markets (ND, MN, WI, MI, and the Northeast), few people really care about hockey either.
-
FCS is the new D2, just look at all the schools in FCS and where they used to be. D2 is the new D3/NAIA with schools like Minot, Sioux Falls, Crookston, and Black Hills State moving up to D2. To deny these facts makes one look pretty dumb. Yes it's a "D1" championship.... but it really isn't any more impressive than a D2 championship was 30 years ago (which NDSU won several of... so congrats).

Nice job proving Oxbow's point.

I just did some mapping and it's actually a shorter drive from Miami (OH) to minneapolis than to omaha, never would've guessed it. And you're definitely right about $$ being the top factor. Now then, I just read the opening post in its entirety and saw that the Target Center is bidding to be the host. Holding it at the Target Center would initially worry me because of the fact the operations people aren't used to running a hockey game out of the place. Ice conditions could become a factor if the place isn't set up properly and that would really suck. Also could be some scheduling conflicts resulting in them not getting the ice set up as early as they should, which would result in poor conditions. I'm not sure if the designers of the Target Center had hockey in mind when they built the place, but I have little knowledge on the subject (other than what wikipedia has to offer )

Is this in reference to the Pepsi Center or DU's arena? Comparing excitement and travel for the conference tournament to the 2008 Frozen Four is risky in my opinion (although Sioux fans have been owning the final five of late).
-
Good point, but the other schools may not like having the touney in Minneapolis every year because it gives an advantage to UND and UMD (and Jan Brady State University (SCSU) whenever they make the tourney).
