I've suspected for some time that Watchmaker is Almostheavenin2011. It appears Watchmaker believes the name is racist and is very bitter that we don't believe the same. We have also marginalized her "fight against racism" by making the retiring of the Sioux name about sanctions rather than race.

Standing Rock isn't voting, only Sioux County is. I doubt the couple hundred votes that may come out of Sioux County will be enough to apply serious pressure to the Tribal Council. Also, in terms of sanctions on UND, the NCAA's opinion is the only one with the potential to change them (and they're not budging).

Where have I gone "grammar police" on you? I said don't feed the troll (you) earlier. I also pointed out scpa contradicted himself. That wasn't grammar, that was simply a factual problem with his statement.

Fetch has posted pictures of sheep on this site multiple times. How is it libel to say he has an affinity for them? ScottM never said Fetch had sexual relations with sheep, but it appears that's how you read it. Maybe you should get your mind out of the gutter. And saying he spews incoherent idiocy is simply a statement of opinion --> not libel. Note: Although it wasn't libel, it was "uncivil" and, in my opinion, probably shouldn't have been posted.

I've heard the main reason the Catholic Church is pushing it is to prevent the government from forcing pharmacists to supply birth control. Now whether you agree with the Catholic Church on that point is a personal choice (not mine), but I worry about the other consequences of passing such a measure. I don't like the idea of religious law (and this measure gives extra power to all religions, good or bad) becoming more powerful in this country.

UND coaches, players, faculty, staff, alumni foundation, and student government all say vote yes. So I'm not sure who you're talking about.

In 2005 the state still had the opportunity to get tribe approval and avoid sanctions. This is not the case in 2012. Things have changed so you're just going to have to deal with it. There were those who believed the name should be dropped in 2005 because they saw it as racist (See: Watchmaker) and there are those who believe the name should be dropped now because not doing so would result in sanctions which harm the University (See: Most posters on this forum).

If you go back and read some of the pages in the 40s in this forum, you'll see that idea has already been refuted. NDSU wouldn't have to pay a team $250k to play in the Fargodome and they could increase ticket prices for the UND game compared to a game against Whocares State University.
