Nodaks = 100% bland - an abbreviated version of the name of the state Fighting Hawks = 85% bland - it's another hawk Roughriders = 10% bland - state nickname (same as the 2 prior UND nicknames), historical reference, only drawback is some people seem to care that it's used by a high school (personally, I quit caring about high school sports almost immediately after graduating from high school)

In the case being voted on, Nodaks would be equivalent with University of Missouri Mizzous, University of Mississippi Ole Misses, and University of California Cals, which don't exist for obvious reasons. If you still feel it's the least bad nickname option that's fine, but don't try to mislead with a direct comparison to Mizzou (which has an actual nickname).

Glad I could help to fill the void. Mizzou is the Tigers, other similar situations include the Ole Miss Rebels and the Cal Golden Bears. So really, just Nodak isn't a valid comparison. The Nodak Roughriders works.

Really? I can't think of too many kickers who are only 70% on extra points. UND men's basketball wishes it was 70% from the free throw line.

Since we're now having separate threads campaigning against each name, I figured it was time to start this one. Nodak is an old USPS code for North Dakota, so it's a name with all the imagination and foresight of the federal postal service. Nodaks is often used as a derogatory term for people from North Dakota. Nodaks is at best a temporary name that might last a decade before we go through this whole mess again. Nodaks gives no hint of a usable logo, leaving quite possibly the most important part of the name change entirely up to a bunch of vanilla, unimaginative higher ed administrators. UND already hit and quit Nodaks in the 40s because it wasn't any good, and this at a time when one night stands were very taboo. Just say no to Nodaks..... this round.

The only ones I've seen have been the Chicago Blackhawks logo transforming into the hawk logo we've all seen. The "logo by a und student" is the same logo with the feathers colored differently. Nice of the guy to write up that article though.

Not a very well put together highlight video. You'd think Oliveira had more yards than Santiago (not saying Oliveira didn't play really well, he did). Not sure why they cut Santiago's first touchdown and then showed a bunch of random extra MSU offensive plays.

Hrynkiw isn't as good as Zane, but Zane had a habit of giving up a softy or 2 against the awful teams we played last year. In 13 games against Colorado College, Air Force, Niagara, Wisconsin, and Lake Superior State last year, we got 1 shutout.

Voted Roughriders. Still not completely decided, but will likely vote nodaks in the event of a runoff without Roughriders. My prediction is that's the way it's going to go, unfortunately. As SFI said, good push for nodaks by the right program. I think that name will complete the comeback, leading to a number of unhappy people since it should've been eliminated already.
