Ok, now, in fairness to this kid, he was the equipment intern for WIH and MIH. When comparing the 2, it's going to seem like WIH got little administrative support. However, if he wants to see what a real lack of support looks like, he should've interned with any other athletic program on campus.

http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/letters/4247084-letter-womens-hockey-never-got-und-support-it-needed Yes, it's the athletics department's fault women's hockey is boring to watch. Absolutely, as evidenced by the multiple NCAA tournament game victories. It does feel like they were cut years ago, especially when you think about the millions of dollars per year not being spent on sports that people cared about.

Having been in St Paul and experiencing their fans when Duloot won their only championship, I have no interest in rooting them on to win another.

A Pfuhl indeed.

Thanks for picking up what I was laying down.

Men's Golf doesn't have anyone still on scholarship, do they?
-
WIH gets cut and the players threaten to sue. How American of them....
-
Also, some of the women's scholarships being removed with WIH and S&D will be reallocated to other women's sports. One can't simply take the current numbers, deduct the WIH and WS&D, and say these are the future numbers.

Looks like the "budget issues forced Blais out" talk was somewhat exaggerated.

For comparison purposes, state funding for North Dakota higher ed (not including funding for new buildings and other projects) has been cut over $100 million. The state could've closed Lake Region, Williston, Dickinson, Mayville, Valley City, and Bottineau and still needed to find a couple million.

Sounds like Omaha is having major budget issues right now. Does MVC/Horizon really want that?
-
Apparel sales, Champions Club donations, and TV revenue not allocated. Even so, $2.9 million over 100 students = $29,000 per student athlete. WIH was $80,000 each.

Did you know ESPN refuses to spend a few grand to send a crew to the NCAA WIH championship? Beyond that, they refuse to give up a couple hours of Sportscenter reruns on ESPN 8 to even air the game? Women's fencing championship coverage? Yep. Women's bowling championship coverage? Yep. Women's hockey? Nope, CBS Sports can have that tax write-off. But we (ESPN) are going to pretend to support you now.

Since when does ESPN care about hockey?
-
Not anymore I guess.

100 students versus 25. 10,000 fans at games versus 200. Champions club donations not recognized. Apparel sales not recognized. Not offshoring certain costs on MIH budget. Growing attendance and revenue. Only team sport other than MIH likely to produce a national championship. High local youth participation rates. Title IX.
