Wasn't aware of his history, just seems he cares more about MBB than FB, so I left him with that. Switch the names Powell and Wigness if you're more comfortable with it. Is this a touchy subject for you or do you just not come across well in written comments?

I've also heard the REA/UND is making moves to guarantee there won't be any conflicts with the High School state tourney. So we're going to increase WIH expenses by moving them to a rented facility? Hopefully REA is able to book more concerts, weddings, etc. for a net gain.

2026, perhaps?

North Dakota state university would be our arch rival. Ndsu and sdsu both moved up to D1 around 5 years before UND and UND just completed its transition to D1 in 2012. That's probably why you didn't hear much about the Dakota schools prior to the past several years. They're both in the Summit Conference while UND is in the Big Sky, where we'd probably claim Weber St and Montana as rivals, though they may not claim us. We'll be joining the other Dakota's in the Summit beginning with the 2018-19 season. As for nicknames, UND was one of the schools that got hammered by the ncaa around a decade ago for having a Native American nickname, the Fighting Sioux. We fought the ncaa for several years and eventually conceded defeat in 2012, as we were having issues in our transition to D1 due to the nickname saga. The Fighting Hawks name was selected a little over a year ago and is slowly gaining steam, though the vast majority of the fan base still prefers Sioux. UND, North Dakota, Nodak, Fighting Sioux, and Fighting Hawks are all acceptable, though some will throw a tantrum if you refer to us as Fighting Hawks.

UND has primarily played man defense this year. If we play any zone at all, I would expect to just mix it in on occasion trying to catch AZ off-guard. Starting bigs include Bernstine, a 6'8" forward who is fairly athletic and Avants, a 6'7" forward who plays bigger than he is, though that's not saying a lot. Avants is more athletic than most expect looking at him, though again, he won't be much compared to what AZ is probably used to. We have Shanks usually coming off the bench at 7'0", but he isn't real athletic and usually gets in foul trouble pretty quickly. Also a 6'6" forward in Collins off the bench who is decent on D, but minimal threat on O. Our guards, Hooker, Baldwin, Crandall, and Seales, are the real threat to you guys. If they're hot from 3, we'll give you a scare. Those 8 are likely the only ones who will see the court, barring foul trouble or a major blowout. Will usually have 3 guards and 2 bigs playing at a time. Edit: And welcome to the board!

No mention of source of funds. Regardless, good to see the university spending toward the future.

Could a logo be coming to the 50 yard line?

Source?

I wonder if they'd upgrade the lettering to the new athletics font as well.
-
Good point, maybe they'll remove the entire helmet and just put the new logo up there?
-
Looks like the Alerus may be upgrading to a F'N Hawks helmet

Wonder if he'd be interested in being the AD someplace? Has a good history of getting a new rink built wherever he goes.

More like the Dallas Cowboys, in that they get a lot of press even though they haven't been a top team in a couple decades.

Current duties, as listed on website: Hajdu - MHKY, XC, T/F Powell - FB, MBB, M/WGOF Ladue - SOC, WHKY, SB, TN Wigness - WBB, VB, BB, S/D Suggested: Men's hockey - Hajdu - MHKY, XC, T/F MBB - Powell - MBB, VB, M/WGOF FB - Wigness - FB, WBB, S/D Leftovers - Ladue - SOC, WHKY, SB, TN That was easy, only had to switch 2 sports and remove baseball. Once another program or 2 is cut, we could probably eliminate one of these positions as well. Sorry guys.

I don't think we need to add any more administrative staff. Just need to better allocate responsibilities among current staff.

It's a microcosm of the UND athletic department's media relations the past 10 years. If it isn't hockey, it's not a priority.
-
Is he on now or when did he say that?
-
Yeah when I was running scenarios, it is very possible for UND to miss if it goes winless.
-
Looking at the coaching staff they're putting together, they may struggle to reach 2nd. Pulling their offensive coordinator and I believe at least one position coach from the high school ranks seems pretty risky.
-
Powell has likely been busy with MBB the past few days. And judging by the KFAN interview miss, he's got a bit much on his plate right now. Perhaps UND would be wise to split the media duties for the 2 biggest collegiate sports in America between 2 of our 4 SIDs, rather than putting them both with the same guy.

Not letting the radio station know you're cancelling the interview may have a negative effect on future opportunities with said station and that station's portrayal of certain future events as they relate to UND.
