    Cynical, but honest question, since I didn't stay at Holiday Inn Express last night... is it possible the question about returning to DII is an attempt to make swimming and diving relevant? that is, after all, a program that has approximately zero chance of bringing UND any national recognition in DI. i am not on the women's hockey bandwagon by any stretch, but at least they may have a chance to win a DI natty. probably will take a coaching change, like men's hockey and football have had and hopefully men's basketball will have soon.

    Is it possible that the MVFC is looking ahead to losing Yougstown in a trickle-down effect of someone like Cincinnati going to the Big 12, eventually making room for the Penguins in the Ohio Valley or some other eastern conference?

    Wondering why all the focus on this board is now on UND moving to the Summit/MVFC as opposed to dropping swimming and diving (sports sponsorship) and maybe softball... ?

    Don't know if I believe this scenario is going to happen, ... But 6 years can be a long time with a lot of changes happening over that length of time. An example is NDSU's move up with UND saying they are not going DI in any other sports than hockey. Then UND moves in less than 6 years. Guessing that not all of the schools being listed here will make the move to a WAC (if that is indeed what happens), ... think South Dakota, Northern Colorado... the rest of the story sure makes the Bison trolls spin, though. seems they are often the one resurrecting this thread. makes for fun reading while we wait for football to actually get started.

    Ya never know. Political correctness run amok is one of the talking points of one of the prez candidates. Maybe the wheels could be rolled back, even if only that much.

    Or BGSU and MnState to NCHC and let ASU go to the WCHA. The Sun Devils really don't bring anything to the table for the NCHC. Yes, Understand they are a P5 school, but hockey will not be a priority, and isn't that what the NCHC was supposed to be about? <ducking> <running for cover> too

    Does he really think he and his opinion represents all of the tribal members? He makes it sound like there is no support on Spirit Lake for the Sioux nickname. Am I racist if his diatribe now makes me like the new logo even less?

    Well, you are correct. but it is a good one that would be a unique Hawk logo. I voted for Roughriders, but only because this one was taken away.

    That would be a nice division.

    The biggest hurdle with an east/west or north/south split feels like the traditionally powerful teams (Montana, Montana State, Eastern Washington, and now Idaho and hopefully UND) would mostly be together, while the teams that are more often the not-so-powerful (for example Weber, Sac State, UC Davis, and maybe Idaho State) would be in the other half. If you look at it that way, a Big Sky/WAC reorg makes more sense.

    People who did not know the difference between a Nokota feral horse and the Nakota Native Americans made a decision based on their own ignorance. Does that sound like any other group you have heard of, for example, one that arbitrarily sets rules that apply to one 'small' school but not several other large revenue sources?

    Guilty. I pledge not to post about an ag school 70 miles south of Grand Forks for a minimum of 1 week. (But that won't be as tough for me since Darrell has about 12 X as many posts as I do)

    As for your comment that Schaefer threw everyone under the bus - he had nothing to do or say about the process that ROK put in place. Schaefer was not president and only had one vote like the rest of us. His comment reflects the sentiment of many that the selected nickname is not unique. I have to admit, I'm still trying to figure out how UND ended up with the Fighting Hawks nickname. Have come to the conclusion that it was the Ivall logo that people thought would be the new UND logo plus people who thought at least the 'Fighting' part of Fighting Sioux name would remain.

    Wasn't about Coastal having 500 more... Was about going FBS with less than 9000 per game average. "Average" attendance would not rely on # of games. "Total" attendance would be easier to inflate with two more games.
