  1. There were many on SS.com and in the gobc that wanted Bubba because they felt that this will be his last coaching gig until he retires. That appears to be playing out. Others would have preferred a younger, up-and-coming coach. But my original post was intended to say that coaches, both head coaches and assistant coaches will come, and it’s not always about the money. The last several pages of posts has been an ongoing discussion that UND can’t get good coaches because the pay is too low.
  2. Just saying that great coaches will come to Grand Forks at the salary UND pays. The choice was there. The decision was made. Yes, he would probably be on to higher paying positions by now. DeBoer was a rising young star who would have had a shorter career at UND than Schweigert has. But the salary at UND would not have stopped him from coming to UND on his way to a P5 Head Coaching position. And he would have been able to hire assistant coaches at the salaries paid by UND. It’s not just the money, it’s getting the right people.
  3. Begs the question… would Kalen DeBoer have come to UND for the same salary that Schweigert was offered?
  4. The cries of “we want ‘Bama” and “no FBS schools will play us in the preseason” should come together. Why hasn’t NDSU scheduled Alabama for a preseason game? I doubt Saban would say no. How about Georgia or even LSU?
  5. Or Eastern MWC
  6. Yes, he left before Schweigert was hired, but did he improve his draft position by transferring to NIU? Would say he may have had to be UDFA after time in Rudy’s offense.
  7. Did Kenny Golladay improve his draft position by going to Northern Illinois? We don’t know, but would guess that he did the right thing to get out of Rudy’s offense.
  8. Is there anyone outside SiouxSports that is talking about UND being invited to join B1G hockey?
  9. btw… happy for the Buxton kid
  10. I think you are missing his point… Many voices on SS are saying that losing the continuity of Bubba would cost UND several years of rebuilding (again). That a new coach will set the football program back at least a few more years. MW Hawk is pointing out the fact that first year coaches, the right first year coaches, can and do make a difference their first year. Utah State did pretty well with their new Coach Anderson this year too and Missouri State has gone from the lower half of the MVFC to the playoffs in both of Petrino’s first 2 years. (and before you say it, I realize both used the transfer portal liberally) Yes, MSU was in better shape than UND was at the end of the Mussman era (and UND is also in a better place than when Bubba took over), but Vigen is taking the Bobcats to their first Championship game since 1984 and their first conference championship since 2012 in his first year as a head coach. Vigen did not have to rebuild the whole team, but he apparently is very successful in fine-tuning it. I think what MW Hawk is saying is that UND, with the right fine tuning (leadership), can take that next step to becoming the championship caliber team we are all confident they can be and it doesn’t have to take several years. My apologies, I don’t mean to put words in MW Hawk’s mouth, but that is how I understand his post.
  11. This is an article from 2017
  12. Yes. Would be much better if there was an active game thread instead of a multi-page transfer portal thread.
  13. Made the playoffs, but finished in the top third of the BSC. MSU was not conference champions.
  14. Maybe Missouri Sate is not an apples to apples comparison, since Petrino has turned them around with so many transfers. On the other hand, Montana State was an almost-there team in the Big Sky and Vigen has made the difference that put them on top of the BSC -in his first year. It feels like UND is where Montana State was: on the cusp, looking for the right fit to get them to the next level.
  15. UND should be one of these top 10 FCS teams. On another tangent… Opening the transfer portal, imho, is the Power 5 putting pressure on the NCAA to stop the break-away by those schools. They have enough power in the NCAA to force this onto the smaller schools, G5, FCS, DII and even DIII. This is making the small schools a farm system, like minor league baseball is to the Major Leagues.
  16. Murray and Kansas City are within the MVC footprint, but Arlington is quite a bit outside. Would they go after Oral Roberts then too, to link the geography?
  17. Wow! That’s really bad in an 11 team conference.
  18. Rocky & Bullwinkle reference… Wossamotta U.
  19. Not to mention Denver, UMKC. Who’d-a-thunk the Summit would be more stable than the WAC?
  20. C-USA stable at 9 then? WAC loses 2 - NMSU & Sam Houston. Will they go after more Texas schools now?
  21. Middle Tennessee is staying in C-USA. Western Kentucky - you’re up
  22. Couldn’t raise funds at Eastern Washington. Same thing at UND
  23. That 4th and 2 changed the momentum for the game… and the rest of the season.
  24. Somebody needs to be the leader.
  25. Left out in the cold. Not southern enough Happy for New Mexico State to finally get an FBS home. Sam Houston never really even slowed down going through the WAC. So now, both Sam Houston and James Madison are leaving FCS. Do the northern schools have aspirations, or are they all willing to maintain the status quo?
