  1. Are there any FU trolls that want to defend this garbage?
  2. I logged into Facebook and checked it out. It's there. Thank you UND and REA for restoring this very important service.
  3. I smell a political thread drift in the air. I guess I have some trouble feeling sorry for Altru. They use their market monopoly to shut out any competition and now this happens to them. This is karma working its magic.
  4. How did you make the leap from what I said to what you said? I for one think that it is only fair if everyone that benefits from the addition of a parking ramp contributes something for its construction. We wouldn't want to reward "lazy moochers", would we?
  5. I was using exaggeration as a tool to make a point. A little over the top? Yeah, but sometimes that is what works best to drive a point home. You are missing the point. It doesn't matter if that ramp is "dedicated" to the X; the point is that it's available for events such as the WCHA Final Five (in its pre-cannibalized form). In all the years I went to the Final Five at the X, I would get there 30 minutes before game time and I could get an open spot in the ramp. Sure, it was a long walk up to street level, but it was right across the street from the arena. This could have been dealt with when REA was built because in 2001 there was still a lot of green space around the arena. But we can't go back in time, so we have to deal with this situation as it is now. Whoa, we went from shuttles for home hockey games to the idea of becoming "Texas or Ohio State". Talk about thread drift. I agree with you on the fact that "you don't get everything overnight". I care much more about the long-term than the short-term. But little things like this add up over time. Being penny-wise and pound-foolish about providing a minor convenience for the best fans in the country (my opinion and I am sticking to it) that will generate goodwill and a positive profile for the institution as a whole is not a step in the right direction. My concern is that we will use this same approach to other things and develop a reputation for being cheap. I do like Brian Faison, but I have some serious reservations about President Kelley's viewpoint on what he thinks athletics contributes to the institution as a whole. I think our athletic department could become the greatest marketing tool in our toolbox, but if the President is not on board with that vision, it won't matter what we or Faison or the coaches think. And those are the reasons for my rantings and ravings, a concern for the future of UND. Just my 2 cents.
  6. I think the past 12 years have proven that people will fork over $20 to $25/night for concession items and not think twice about it. Will they even notice that $1 has been added to the prices? I would not mind contributing to parking improvements at REA and I think everyone that has a stake in this should contribute something. Shared responsibility builds gratitude.
  7. People can disagree all they want with what I post. I honestly quit caring about that a long time ago. What I have a problem with are certain individuals who are determined to establish litmus tests as to what is and is not appropriate to discuss on a discussion forum. If these individuals don't have a desire to discuss this or any other issue people bring up, then they shouldn't post on here while they complain about people posting on here! You see the paradox at work here? Basically, I just call out BS when I see it and/or smell it. And that is what drives certain people on here crazy. As for me being "harsh", I don't call people names, I don't threaten people and I do acknowledge those that make a good point about something. And I also have said many times that I will gladly come on here and admit I am wrong if one of my predictions or opinions is proven false. Just sayin'
  8. Says every Qwest customer service rep I have ever dealt with.
  9. This is one issue we are 100% on the same side on. Great post.
  10. Then maybe Mussman recruited the wrong kind of kids to play here. It isn't all about athleticism.
  11. I don't know what is happening at SIU. All I know is that Lennon did not put up with any nonsense when he was in charge at UND and it worked out pretty well for us.
  12. If this is what Faison is going to do, we might as well join the Pioneer Football League.
  13. Then why do head coaches get paid so much? Maybe you think that is how it should work, but that is not how human beings are wired. A team takes on the personality of the head coach. Mussman apparently does not have the respect of the locker room and once you lose that, you have lost your team and nothing you say will change anything. The players respected Lennon, they respected Thomas. I know Dean Blais was respected by his players because he had standards and expectations that he expected the players to live up to. Same with Gene Roebuck. Same with Brian Idalski. Based on all the personal foul penalties, sloppy play, sideline antics when we are down 40 points at home, it is obvious Mussman has lost the team and I don't think he can get it back. I do not doubt that Mussman could succeed someplace else as a coordinator, but I don't think he is head coaching material.
  14. Why do you think some people call him Mr. Clean?
  15. I think the point he was making is that trust fund babies inherit their wealth; they do not earn it. That leads people to feel entitled rather than grateful. What that has to do with this thread, I don't know.
  16. I think gfhockey was referring to Winona State and the beat-downs they suffered at the hands of UND more than once. I think Winona would beat today's version of UND football without too much trouble.
  17. Put a $1 tax on all concession items (beer, nachos, Coke, hot dogs). That would raise mad money (especially the beer! ). Add a $1 surcharge to all tickets. Do this for all events at REA, not just hockey. I think you would be surprised at how much money gets raised and how quickly it happens.
  18. You are forgetting that the NSIC became stronger following the dissolution of the NCC and the incorporation of some NCC teams into the NSIC.
  19. Now you are comparing UND's program in the mid 2000's with UND's program today. Apples and Oranges. Some of UND's teams from the 2000's could beat this year's squad by probably two touchdowns.
  20. My point is, without those parking ramps, people going to events at the X would be SOL. And it would cause all sorts of problems in downtown St. Paul.
  21. The crux of this issue isn't "walking distances", although that is the most obvious problem for most people. The real issue is, why a $104 million hockey arena doesn't have more adequate parking for its customers? And what does that say about UND as an institution? This is something that probably should have been addressed when the arena was being built, but it's obviously too late to wring our hands about that now. What we need is some creative thinking from creative people to figure out a long-term solution to this problem. And, despite what some people on here will tell you, it is a problem. Any large-scale sports or entertainment venue needs adequate parking options that are reasonably close to the building itself. REA does not. This is one of REA's few flaws. Fixing it would generate a lot of customer goodwill, which is tough to earn but very easy to lose.
  22. This is a discussion forum. People come here to discuss things. That is what I am doing. I know all you care about is "exchanging information", but not everyone shares the same viewpoint. And no, I don't think I am "being powerful" posting on here, I just get a kick out of you defending the establishment on every single issue, no matter how Orwellian or boilerplate the answer sounds like. I wasn't born yesterday and dried behind the stove and my momma didn't raise a fool for a son. I also have BS and MS Degrees in Public Administration, I have worked on campus for the better part of 10 years and I am an astute observer of politics. Thus, I think I have a pretty decent grasp as to how upper-level management thinks and behaves about issues big and small and how big institutions like UND operate. That is why I am quick to call out BS when I hear it. It is a skill you should try sometime; it is very useful. As for asking questions of the people in power, that generally does not yield much return on investment. You saw the boilerplate answer that YaneA got. That is what big institutions do when they make unpopular decisions, they answer the questions without actually answering them. Since boilerplate answers do nothing more than tick me off, what is the point of asking the question? Cynical? Yes, but I have found this to be true more often than not.
