It happened when Rube Bjorkman left and they elevated one of his assistants (Gino). But it doesn't usually work like that.
-
Source?
-
And you cool it with the attitude. The NHL is way different than the NCAA. Or CHL for that matter.
-
That is what worries some of us.

Schmidt isn't the same coach he was when he was defensive coordinator under Bubba. He worked under Kalen DeBoer and has obviously picked up some new ideas. He is changing our defense for the first time since 1989. And in his first three months, he has infused a new attitude and energy into the program. Whether it translates to the field remains to be seen. But please feel free to go off-topic. It's entertaining.

I want us to do a hard reset. A reboot. Promoting from within (Jackson) or bringing back a previous coach (Hakstol) doesn't do that. And if you want to call that stupid, go ahead.
-
You know what I meant. I am not going to go round and round with you on semantics.

It is a good reminder that an assistant coach won't necessarily keep everything the same. It's a fair point, one I have made a few times since Sunday. But for the record, I don't think Jackson is the right choice.
-
Younger than that. And I don't mean just in chronological age. I'm talking demeanor, style, communication, relatability to 18 to 23 year old young men........the intangibles that are difficult to measure, but are arguably just as important, if not more so.
-
I was just reinforcing the point that we need to go younger, not older.
-
No Hakstol. No Blais. And above all, no Dane Freaking Jackson. We must get someone younger and more aggressive.
-
Wipe the slate clean. Start over from scratch. A few rough seasons are worth it if it results in long-term success.
-
Well, going with experience (Berry) didn't work out that well. So I am open to doing something different this time. I would also argue that Blais hadn't run a college program until we hired him in 1994. And that worked out pretty well.

"But Chaves serves on a bunch of important committees! And he brought us the almighty Alston Awards! And it's all about GPA and community service hours! That's all you can ask!" (extreme sarcasm) I didn't think it could get any worse than Buning. But Chaves has set the standard for mediocrity and underachievement. Chaves must go.
-
Fair enough.
-
I agree with you. But Gino was on Bjorkman's staff when he was hired to run the program in 1978. And Gino clearly ran the program differently than Rube did. And the results showed it. So it's impossible to know for sure.
-
Okay son, please enlighten us all.
-
Those sources have to be better than tracking tail numbers.
-
I hope so.
-
Nobody knows anything. Those who know aren't talking. Those who are talking don't know.
-
Something has been in the works for awhile.
-
Then why didn't they just hold a press conference this morning and announce it? That's what they did when Hakstol left.
-
Anything under 90% is unacceptable.

Gino was hired to replace Bjorkman and had been on Rube's staff. It was obvious from the start that Gino's idea of how to run a program was much different from Bjorkman's. It is entirely possible that Dane Jackson has a much different philosophy than Brad Berry did. That is the ONLY way hiring Jackson would make any sense at all.
