I remember when players in our program earned ice time based on performance and what they brought to the table. Not because they are seniors and have "put in their time". Man, those were the days.

I am just glad the change was made. However, it could have been made less painfully if Chaves hadn't given that hair-brained extension to Bubba last March.

Romfo better not have the starting job automatically again in 2025. If he can't make the throws an FCS QB needs to make to keep defenses honest, then I hope he doesn't still get the job strictly because of "completion percentage during practice".

Whomever wins the QB job will have earned it. At least that's the vibe I get from Schmidt and his staff and their decisions since taking over.

Is NIL important? Yes. Should UND push hard to grow the 1883 Collective? Definitely. Should we have started our collective earlier? Absolutely. But is NIL the end all and be all? No way.

No, it is not cooked. We've been in far worse shape before (most of the 1970's, early 1990's). I just want to avoid going down that road again.

I think it is important to point out that our issues as a program have nothing to do with NIL. They have everything to do with Berry not being head coach material. He was a good assistant coach, but he has shown he cannot handle the complexities of being in charge of a Division I hockey program. It is time for a change.

What efforts are being made to court potential NIL donors to the collective? I really hope the answer isn't "little to none".

I honestly don't care what she thinks. It is high time we start broadening our donor base (for hockey and all other sports). Relying on the whims of one donor is a bad idea, I don't care who her daddy was.

We are not going to become a plucky little mid-major in NCAA hockey. It cannot be allowed to happen. It must not be allowed to happen. You have already accepted it as an unchangeable fact; I never will accept it. If we allow this to happen, we'll be no different than the athletic department of an HBCU.

Except this weekend is best 2 out of 3. And no, this isn't good at all. I don't want to end up like Wisconsin; they are still trying to fix the mess Eaves left.
