  1. Jackrabbit growth has problems of its own. I prefer slow, steady growth. Then city services can keep up.
  2. Every summer, you see more apartment buildings being built in Grand Forks. If people are leaving in droves, who is living in these units? Ghosts? (sarcasm) I have said it before, Grand Forks has an inferiority complex and Fargo has a superiority complex. They think they are Minneapolis, but they aren't. And they should be thankful that they aren't like the Twin Cities; too many people, too much congestion and way too much stress.
  3. You know, the two women in that picture look remarkably alike. So I don't see where this guy thinks there is much of a difference. #beatsme
  4. My point is that hockey is a red-headed stepchild in the Little 7. It will ALWAYS be a third-rate sport at best (and sometimes not even that). The NCHC is a pure hockey conference with some of the country's best teams. It's an easy choice as far as I am concerned.
  5. This is why we should NEVER, EVER join the Little 7 Conference. I am surprised they haven't scheduled hockey games to start at 9am yet.
  6. I really liked this passage from Wayne Nelson's article today: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/basketball/1357299-NELSON-New-UND-coach-charged-with-making-mens-basketball-a-big-deal-again This is an idea that Tom Buning never embraced. Sather wouldn't have gotten the time of day from Buning. Buning would probably have hired the equipment manager at Duke ("Well, he has lots of Division I experience."). Welcome and good luck to Sather!
  7. Thank you Jim for this and everything else you do for us.
  8. How much are you willing to bet that the Fargo Forum will keep being published come hell or high water? I'll bet good money on that. They are trying to get rid of all the other papers in North Dakota so they can become "The Newspaper of Record" for the entire state of North Dakota and adjacent portions of South Dakota and Minnesota. The Forum News Service was founded to help make this very thing happen. It is only a matter of time.
  9. Not all lawsuits are "fake". I suppose you think people who die eating contaminated lettuce should be held responsible for it too?
  10. Agreed. The idea that people are not responsible for what happens on their premises is dangerous for many, many reasons.
  11. You just described the Kennedy Administration in one succinct sentence! Well done!
  12. Major Junior hockey is a big scam. They use young hockey players to make lots of money and then discard them when they have outlived their usefulness. And you have the incidences of MJ teams screwing these kids out of the college education money they were promised. There probably are a lot of under-the-table payments that we never hear about. This is why College Hockey, Inc. was started, but they don't seem to do much beyond those commercials on NHL Network.
  13. Right now, we are still using the old Division 2 funding model of Season Ticket sales, Champions Club memberships and 50/50 raffles. And that won't cut it in Division 1 athletics. We need to start thinking outside the box or we'll remain a bargain-basement/shoestring budget Division 1 school. In other words, a colder, more northern version of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
  14. I think you'd have to have about 10-15 new programs to make a dent in the talent pool, which is getting bigger and better all the time.
  15. Apples and oranges, both in amounts of money and overall impact.
  16. Don't get me wrong, I am not defending KEM. I don't like her and think she is a spoiled little rich girl who wants everyone to bow down to her. She is also not an honest broker. I just wish Kennedy had risen above her pettiness and at least tried to be tactful in dealing with what is a sensitive topic (distribution of REA revenues). I dislike both of them for different reasons.
  17. Popular? No. The right question to ask. Yes. This idea that every program should support itself or dissolve must die.
  18. Tact means you know how to talk to people to achieve your overall goals and objectives. It does not mean you refuse to make tough decisions when necessary. People skills matter.
  19. Okay, I gotcha now.
  20. Hire the same firm that runs the Alerus Center. They are doing a great job with that; they would do a great job with REA. Also, both facilities could coordinate their schedules; thus avoiding them competing with each other for events.
  21. Watch it live here: https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4607258-live-mark-kennedy-decision-coming-soon-cu-regents-vote-after-2-pm-central
  22. I say 5-4 party-line vote.
  23. Location is not the issue (NDSU, SDSU and USD aren't scenic locations either). Resources are. Time to put up or shut up and get out of Division I.
  24. This is sad commentary on the state of UND Athletics.
  25. But if he doesn't have Division I experience and a Master's Degree, he isn't qualified to coach here (sarcasm). Oh wait, Tom Buning isn't here anymore? In that case, I hope he applies.
