Martinson always has a rationale for not doing something. Although it is possible the Alerus Center is not being cooperative with UND on this. In that case, it's partly on them as well. One thing the Alerus Center can do right now is fix the freaking audio.

Getting a team from bad to good can happen quickly. Getting a team from good to great is a lot more complicated. This team has to learn how to close games out. There isn't a simple formula for getting them there. It has to happen organically. The two most tangible problems with this team now is the kicking game and the offensive play calling. Both of those need to be corrected for this team to make some noise later in the season.

Not in those exact words. But there have been comments along the lines of "same problems as under Bubba" and "I thought things would be different with Schmidt". I know yesterday's loss was a gut punch, but I think the team will learn a lot from it.

It's not that people want Bubba back, it's that some people are saying the team hasn't improved at all. The losses hurt for sure (yesterday was a huge let down), but under Bubba, those losses would have been blowouts. Under Schmidt, they weren't. The kicking game needs to be fixed. The play calling needs to be simplified. And Jerry needs more reps to get completely comfortable as the starter (he's still a sophomore). But Schmidt is building something special; it just won't happen quickly.

I want success too. All of us want that. All of us are sick and tired of mediocrity, underachieving and losing. But the Eric Schmidt Project won't be finished in a day, a week or a season. It will take time. I said before the season that there would be growing pains in Eric Schmidt's first season. We saw some of those today. But I still think we will get better as the season goes on. Let's all take a deep breath and not panic after 3 games.

Man, I really hope Jax and Hutter get a longer leash than this.

Schmidt took over this program literally 10 months ago. He is working with (mostly) Bubba's leftovers. Did you really think we were going to be great immediately? Cripes, this really is an instant gratification world we live in.

I am beginning to question Fruechte as offensive coordinator. The play calling is very strange.

Man, you give up easily. I said there would be growing pains early on in the season. But I do think we'll learn from our mistakes and get better as the season goes on. But feel free to give up if you want.

Easy to forget Jerry is just a sophomore.
