  1. Is Geno going to transfer from a team where he is arguably the best player to ride the pine on and Mountain West or MAC school??
  2. If by "moved past the nickname/logo issue" you mean they have done nothing more than the bare minimum required by the NCAA and very little to promote the new name and logo...you are right on!
  3. As UND has transitioned to a new Fighting Hawks moniker, McGarry said Kennedy has argued the arena's Fighting Sioux holdovers have created "brand confusion." "I feel as we got drug in, we got blamed for causing brand confusion," she said. "But the fact is we didn't change, the building stayed the same. ... Everything around us changed. We can only do what we can do in our space to be in accordance to the NCAA. We are going to obey the law and do what we have to do to have games and make revenue. We can't dig our heels in, but this whole revolution and change had a momentum of its own. It didn't have anything to do with us. We're there and somehow through the course of this, we become the nemesis of students, faculty and the sporting world." Gee, I wonder why they would be accused of "brand confusion?" Maybe because the REA has been dragging their feet the most in adopting the new Fighting Hawks name and logo. The Ralph could replace the neon logos outside the arena with the new logo. Adding more Fighting Hawks signage around the concourse would be an easy modification as well. And of course the most obvious change of putting the new logo at center ice. But they don't. Not meaning to turn this into a nickname discussion, but her statement saying that they aren't creating brand confusion could not be any more false. She admits they are basically doing the bare minimum appease the NCAA. But they are doing nothing to support the new name and logo.

    2018 Season

That is right. Forgot that is a football/hockey day. Makes sense. Wondering about the Homecoming/Potato Bowl weekend. They moved that game back because of the parade. but wondering if they are going to have 2 parades that Saturday morning, Homecoming on campus and Potato Bowl downtown) or jsut have one combined parade. Or move the Homecoming parade to Friday night.
  5. I think the biggest issue with McGarry is that she isn't dealing with pushover Presidents that UND has had in the past. As soon as someone questions her and wants to renegotiate in the interests of UND, she runs to the paper complaining about it. UND needs to treat all of its donars with respect. Whether they donate 10 dollars or 10 million. But expecting UND to do what you demand is something the McGarry expects is simply wrong.
  6. I totally agree. My point was Kennedy needs to find a way to work with the Engelstad Foundation. Even if they are unreasonable and wrong in many cases. I don't think that Kennedy and UND need to bend over backwards and give the Engelstad Foundation everything they demand. Kennedy is being bold and is doing what he thinks is right for the University. And I commend him for that. McGarry is an Engelstad remember and she has inherited many of her dads negotiating traits. I agree with what Kennedy is saying and doing. He just needs to adapt to who is dealing with.

I am liking the more consistent game times. Only going to get better in 2020. I an guessing the Griz game is at 1:00 because it is a Root Sports game.
  8. Pretty much a gaurantee that Kennedy will sit down with the Herald and give his side of the story. Or at least he would be smart to do so. There is always two sides to every story. I don't mind Kennedy looking out for the best interests of the University, but you still need to do it the right way. Upsetting your biggest donor is probably not the best way.
  9. Baker as well as former AD Terry Wanless. Ralph basically said that he wouldn't donate money for the new arena unless those two were gone.
  10. UNd can still make public to its donors the needs of REA in the future. Engelstad Foundation can still donate to make those a reality. Wasn't the money donated for updating the locker room made through private donations? Doesn't necessarily have to be on UND's dime once 2030 comes.
  11. Wasn't meaning to be a dig on what you have accomplished since moving up to D1. My point was NDSU was justified in building an 18,000+ arena not only due to the size of the metro area they are in, but the decades of success they had in the past. Again. My points are not to rip on SDSU and what they have accomplished. Just saying that in my opinion, SDSU building an outdoor 19,000+ seat stadium was maybe too big to what their fanbase can support. And the numbers prove that. For now. Maybe I will be proved wrong. I guess we wait and see.
  12. "The name will no doubt sound queer to us for a while, but when we once become used to its usage we can be proud to have our teams play under the name... " We can only hope this happens for the UND fanbase as well.
  13. There are many teams that are the Hawks. But only one is Fighting!!! (In more ways than one)
  14. How bout we name the mascot Emmert!
  15. So curious to people who aren't fans of the Hawks name. If you are say at the Frozen Faceoff and hear a St Cloud fan yell "Hawks suck" during the game. Do you get offended or do you not care that someone just put down the team you cheer for because you don't identify with that name as the University of North Dakota?
  16. I agree that you have to build for the future. But they may have over estimated by just a bit. Can't really compare SDSU's situation to NDSU. NDSU has a metro population of 238,000 compared to Brookings which is about 24,000. Plus, NDSU football has had a long history of success. Prior to the Fargodome being built, NDSU had won 8 National Championships, and 25 Conference Championships. Before the Jacks new Stadium was built, SDSU had won 14 Conference titles and none since 1963 with only one playoff appearance in the history of the program. SDSU has built a good program as of late and their facilities are helping that. All I am stating is they over estimated the number of fans would attend Jacks games, especially later in the year.
  17. We are all fans of the University of North Dakota. We are all Hawks fans. #unity
  18. Dana Dykhouse ain't strapped for cash. He would have kicked in a few more million if they needed it.
  19. #NorthStarsForever, #SiouxForever, #RedskinsForever, #DakotaTerritoryForever, #13ColoniesForever
  20. Now the facts: In 2016, SDSU averaged 13753 per game. Highest attended game was 17730 vs USD. For their one playoff game, they had 6154. Average attendance from November 1st on, 10775. In 2017, SDSU averaged 11700 per game. . Highest attended game was 18130 vs NDSU. For the two playoff games they hosted they had 7518 and 5583 for an average playoff attendance of 6699.. Average attendance from November 1st on was 10246. If you take out the NDSU game it was 7619. My point? SDSU built a stadium way to big for what their fanbase supports. Sure attendance may have been trending upwards, but no where near filling a 19340 seat stadium. They have never even come within 1000 of a sellout. To your point about "The weather in Brookings in November usually is very tolerable for outdoor football", that doesn't really translate to people actually going to the games as shown by your November attendance numbers. the fact that the last 2 seasons were probably the best teams SDSU has ever had and they can't even fill a third of their stadium for home playoff games says something. I can't imagine their attendance numbers when they eventually have a sup .500 season. SDSU would have been better off building a 14,000-15,000 indoor stadium. The fact is November/December football outdoors in North Dakota/South Dakota is brital. There is a reason the other 3 Dakota schools all build indoor facilities. SDSU wanted the biggest stadium in the MVFC and wanted to be bigger than NDSU. Sure they got all the money donated so they were able to do it, but I don't think they will every have the consistent crowds to fill the stadium at a near sellout capacity like NDSU or Montana.
  21. This statement should go without saying. Unfortunate that the culture among UND fans require the topic of being civil to one another is even being discussed. Especially when we are talking about fans wearing merchandise of the official name and logo of the University of North Dakota.
  22. UND is not going to pony up hundreds of thousands a year for naming rights to a city owned building. Especially given the financial climate right now at UND.
