  1. My biggest concern is how UND is going to handle NDSU's offensive line. they have 2 preseason All Americans in Zack Johnson and Dillon Radunz. Their offesive line is one of the biggest in the country at any level. Getting a pass rush on Trey Lance is going to be pivotal in disrupting his ability to just stand back there and wait for his receivers to get open. Games like this are won and lost in the trenches. Definitely a big challenge going up against their O-line. The Bison have lived on running the ball and sustaining long 7-8 minute drives. If we can win the battle at the line, it will go a ,long way to helping us stay competitive in this game.
  2. Moose yeah yeah!!
  3. Exactly. The extent of their research for this game was NDSU won big last week, they are the defending Champions, they are playing at home, they are playing a team that went 6-5 last year and UN D is starting their backup QB. Maybe I am giving them too much credit. Sure, Vegas never likes to lose money, but there is so little action on FCS games compared to the rest of the NCAA and the NFL, that it is hardly a blip on their radar. 30.5 I think is too high. I would likely put it at around 22-24.
  4. Shocking news!! Go get em Zim https://fightinghawks.com/news/2019/9/5/football-andrew-zimmerman-named-starting-quarterback.aspx
  5. So there is a rumor going around that the UND/NDSU game isn't much of a rivalry anymore. Well hopefully this can wake the echoes of games past!!!
  6. Chances UND beats NDSU this week??? Bout the same chance as seeing a moose run on UND’s practice fiel.......Er...wait!!
  7. From 1965 to 1992, NDSU won 21 NCC titles, 8 National Championships, and was 22-6 against UND those 28 years. There was a stretch at the end of that era where NDSU won 12 straight. I don't think there were any Bison fans in 1992 that thought that rivalry was dead because UND hadn't been successful, especially against the Bison. Even during there hiatus of not playing each other, UND and NDSU remained rivals.
  8. I will revise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_college_football_rivalry_games Of the 359 "Rivalry games" in FBS, FCS, D2, and D3, 198 of them, the winer receives some sort of trophy. Of course many schools play for more than one. So virtually all was a bit of an exaggeration on my part. But the number is definitely over half. My point is yes, there are lots of rivalry games in college football that don't play for a trophy (or an inanimate object). But for those that do, the rivalry game is so much better because you will always have that moment for one team of them carrying around the "trophy" . And think about what these players are playing for!! A pot, a jug, an axe, a pig, a skillet, etc. Doesn't even matter what it is. The trophy is the symbol that represents that win against the rival. And that is something that these players will remember forever.
  9. Sure we had a great trophy. Any new one isn't going to be as good. But that is not a reason to not have a new one. Virtually every rivalry game in college football has a trophy. Would be unfortunate if this one didn't have one. Seriously. Doesn't really matter what it is. Doesn't need to be glitzy or prestigious. Bells, buckets, kegs, jugs, spades; there are trophies out there that have been played for for years that are just basic and simple. Playing for a trophy that is basically an object, that the players can run too and carry around the field after a big win is what it's all about. To have a physical representation of the big rivalry win that players and fans can gravitate towards is just one more thing that makes rivalry games great.
  10. It's a rivalry game. Not sure why Entz would think any different. Maybe top take some pressure (if there is any) off his players. Just trying to treat it like any other non conference game. this year will feel like more of a rivalry than 2015 because it is the start of playing every year again. Next year will be even bigger since it will be a conference game. And eventually (and hopefully) the rivalry will be back to the level it once was. I saw Kolpack and Izzo's preview of the game and they were kind of in the same boat how it's a rivalry game but doesn't feel like one being so early in the season. they dd bring up a point that this game needs to be the last game of the year and it needs a trophy. So many college football rivalries that do those two things, NDSU/UNd game needs to do as well. 2020-2023 game days are set. 2022 game in Fargo is the last game of the season but the other 2 are not. Hopefully startign in 2024, the game will be the last game of the year. Looking forward to getting this rivalry started up again!!
  11. So I guess we want to cheer for a loss this week. Losing to the #1 team in the nation should get us in the top 25 for sure!!
  12. Might actually be an improvement. Zimm definitely ran a better Freundball than Kett!!
  13. Where are the students?? That side looks soo empty!
  14. Thank you!! Go Hawks!!
  15. What Pluto channel is it going to be in on? Can’t seem to find it.
  16. The best?? Really??
  17. https://www.inforum.com/sports/football/4636275-Hot-Mic-with-Dom-Izzo-2019-college-football-predictions Bulletin board material!!
  18. OK, I am calling BS on this. There is no way anyone would mistake these two logos for each other. Not even close.
  19. So let me get this straight. You call the Fighting Hawks logo "the absolute worst hawk logo in the sports world" yet you buy merchandise and clothing with the logo on it and wear it "across the country." ?
  20. The 2015 game definitely was way too close for comfort. that score was 21-18. We scored all our points in the first half then kind of fell asleep the second half which allowed them to comeback and make it a game. This can't happen again. Need to keep the pedal down if we get a lead early again. The new spread offense will be fun to watch, but only if it is successful and produces points. I think that our speed on offense is going to be too much for Drake to keep up with. I don't know why the line is so low on this game. True Freshman QB playing on the road for his first game against a pysical defense that we have....might be a long day for him. It's certainly not going to be a blowout, but I am not predicting a close game like last time. They will wear down the Drake defense and not led up. Freundball is here!!! UND 31 Drake 14
  21. Getting back on track, I have no problem with Schloss's tweet. It is the first picture of the new scoreboard with the ice in. It's not stealing thunder. We live in a word where everything is news and everything can be tweeted. both pictures of the scoreboard and the opening football game of the season can both exist at the same time without stepping on each other and stealing thunder. If this is a front page article on the Herald, then you have some gripe. But its just a tweet.
  22. So Brien designs a logo of a hawk , sells merchandise with that logo on it, and says "people have their choices, whatever they want to pick." How is that him not trying to compete with the University of North Dakota? What other "choices" are you talking about Ben? Did you have a sudden passion for merchandising artwork you designed that coincidentally happens to be the same mascot as the University you previously designed a logo for that you are clearly disgruntled with for not getting your "fair share" of revenue from?! What a fraud.
  23. As a student at RRHS at the time, even we felt bad for that awful mascot. "Go maroon and grey, go go maroon and grey" was an actual cheer promoted by the GFC cheer team. Just awful!!
  24. Because sometimes in a town the size of Grand Forks, there is more than one thing going on. Seriously don't see a problem with this.
  25. Pretty cool addition to downtown! Artist creates hawkwing mural in downtown Grand Forks https://www.grandforksherald.com/community/4631709-Artist-creates-hawkwing-mural-in-downtown-Grand-Forks
