  1. I think he was referring mostly to the football team. 9 years in Division 1 and UNC is 24-76. That incluses 3 one win seasons and a winless season just last year. I agree that NC has had success in other sports. But you have to admid that after winning 2 consecutive Championships in D2 in the late 90's, UNC football has fallen off the map.
  2. I would say that beating Montana at home would be huge for this program. Montana is the face of the Big Sky in regards to football. Sure they have had issues as of late, but beating an 18 time conference champ and 2 time Nat'l Champ would be the signature win of the year. Beating Montana State on the road would be a very close second. As far as a succesfull season, I think finishing in the top half of the Sky with at least a winning record would be a successfull season.
  3. The biggest reason this guy says the Big Sky should kick UND out is because of the nickname. Well, that issue has been resolved. So you can throw out about 90% of this article. The leftover from this article talks about traveling to North Dakota. An extra 2 hours on a flight is a reason to kick them out? Seems like a pretty week argument.
  4. What is so "faux" about it. Those FCS Championship games actually did get played, and the winners actually did take home a trophy. You find me one person on this board that agrees with you on this and I will give you credit. OK, I am done with you know. You are a lost cause.
  5. I am not defending NDSU so much as I am defending the Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision. (FCS). Anyone that believes in FACTS believes that the FCS Championship is a Division 1 Championship. If people choose not to believe them, it doesn't mean they are right. I will choose to believe in FACTS over opinion. You are in the extreme minority on this one buddy. But you are used to being there, right?
  6. I hate that you have me defending NDSU right now. But I am trying to save you from looking like a complete moron. You do realize that not everything on the internet is true right? You realize that because some t-shirt company says that Alabama won an NCAA Football Championship doesn't make it true right? So by basing your argument by some randon t-shirt company website. Wow!! A Division 1 National Championship is a National Championship. Not sure why you are diminishing it. If UND win that exact same championship, are you going to call it a JV title? Come on. I\
  7. Ok, so you are basing your argument on something that you found on the internet that is proven to be factually inaccurate. Is that how you come up with your arguments? I like to rely on facts. Sotty you don't feel the same way. Ok, I am done with this argument. I can't compete with ignorance.
  8. So because a website says something than its true? Well since I, or the NCAA, can't control anything that is on the web, what I should have said is show me a picture of the NCAA National Championship trophy that Alabama won last year?
  9. Technically inaccurate. Division I FBS (formerly Division I-A) football is the only NCAA sport in which a yearly champion is not determined by an NCAA sanctioned championship event. So NDSU won the only Division 1 football Championship sanctioned by the NCAA last year. I know that it is a technicality, but it is accurate.
  10. You sound like an idiot when you say stuff like "Jr Varsity Chanpionship." You realize UND now competes for the same Championship right? You can also notice on the banner that it says "Football Division 1" This is the highest level of Championship the NCAA recognizes for football. (Technically). If you find anything that says Alabama was the 2011 NCAA Champions in football, let me know....cause there isn't!! Just saying
  11. Since the original law had no bearing with the NCAA, I would think that the provison to not be able to select a new name until 2015 is proabably not going to carry much weight with the NCAA either. I would think that the NCAA would demand UND to have a nickname in place much earlier than 2015.
  12. Keep is hostage until Gene Taylor comes up with a contract in hand to schedule the football games!!
  13. Might offend our friends to the south!!
  14. How many football teams in any division of college football have gone on to win a National Championship without hosting at least one playoff game the year they won it?? The chances of winning all road games to a National Championship, especially at the FCS level, is nearly impossible. So recruits are going to look at that when they choose a school. They basically decide whether they want to play for a chance to sin a national championship, or play at UND where the chance is very slim due to the sanction of not being able to host. Sure a coach can rise above circumstances that come up from season to season. Issues like losing a starting quarterback, runningback, etc. But not being able to host a playoff game is a circumstance that can be avoided. Why not give your coach and team the best chance of winning. Any retiring the Sioux name will do that for the football team.
  15. I think a lot of us were confident that the YES vote would take measure 4. But, did anyone imagine the numbers being like this? Congrats to all who got the word out there and told the facts about the issue.
  16. Pretty numb to the whole situation now. We have had the name retired several times already!! This time however it will be for good.
  17. 30 minutes after polls closed and still only 3 precincts reporting. Could be a long night boys!!!
  18. Interesting... http://www.wdaz.com/event/article/id/14143/
  19. I wonder how long it will take results to come in.
  20. early results...YES - 59.1...NO - 40.9
  21. I wonder how fast the results will come in? Also what percent will be reported right away? Oh well. I guess we will find out any minute.!!
  22. Today is a very bitter sweet day. Today I am voting to have the University of North Dakota retire the Fighting Sioux name and logo to ensure that the state of the UND athletic department will be strong and viable for years to come. But at the same time, I will voting to to retire the name of the teams for the University in which I have cheered for my entire life. As much as I hate to see the name go, I know that retiring it is the right thing to do to ensure the University of North Dakota and its athletic teams can compete at the D1 level free of any santions that will end up harming the the atheltic programs. Deep down I will always be a Fighting Sioux fan. But more importantly I am a University of North Dakota fan First and foremost and I will do what is right for UND. That is why I am voting YES on measure 4 to have UND officially retire the Fighting Sioux name and logo.
  23. Exactly. What makes this Sean Johnson think that a constitutional amendment will have different results than this measure. In reality it will have worse results!! If it the YES wins say 57-43. How in the word does he and the committee think that the vote for pretty much the same thing will be swayed by 15-20 points!!
  24. Solution...stay at one of the 20 hotels that are within 10 blocks of the Target Center. Many of them are also connected by the Skyway!! If you don't want to do that and the train ride is too long, stay at home. I am sure the games will be aired on TV.
