  1. There are many of these that I would classify as more "boring" and "corporate" than our logo.
  2. There is a lot of passion right now towards the new logo and the new name. It would be nice to see that type of passion for supporting the teams instead of the logo on their jerseys. Put that passion into coming to football games and packing stands and making the Alerus the most intimidating place in FCS football. Put all that energy into volleyball and basketball games at the Betty giving our basketball team the support the deserve. Continue to pour all that emotion into supporting the hockey team at home and on the road continuing to make UND the best fanbase in college hockey. Support all the other sports like swimming and diving, softball, and soccer with the same attitude as well. My point is that we need to focus on the right things. Complaining about a logo and a name is not going to help our teams win. But giving them that extra support at games and making it tough on opponents do to the passion, energy, and emotion of the fans in the crowd is what we as UND fans need to focus our attention on.
  3. That is the problem. Many young fans were too young and were not paying much attention to all of this when it went down over a decadeago. For example, the freshmen at UND this year were first graders when the NCAA came out with their policy towards native american nicknames and logos. The things that students and younger fans are fighting for have already been fought for years before they even knew what the term "hostile and abusive" meant. Instead of generation after generation fighting the same battle over and over, lets focus on building new traditions with a new name and logo and passing that down over generations of UND fans.
  4. I expect good things from our Sophomore class in particular. The experience they gained last year, especially in the national tournament, will help them greatly. I think guys like Gersich, Wolanin, and Gardner are all going to have breakout seasons. This team may be young, but they are young and very talented.
  5. The Sioux logo was a very unique logo because , really, it was never intended to be a logo. It was a work of art that was eventually adopted to be a logo. So lets just put that iconic logo aside for now and look at the previous logo's UND has used compared to our new Fighting Hawks logo. Obviously comparing it to the old Sioux logo will leave you dissapointed since is was such a great one. But compare it to previous logos we have used in the past, and it really isn't as bad as people want to make it.
  6. Wait....someone on this site with the name "Siouxforever" doesn't like the new logo? Shocking!!! (relax bud. Just giving you a hard time).
  7. If 3 more green banners get hung up at the Ralph here in the next 5 years or so with the new logo on it, I think it will become more accepted by our fanbase!!
  8. Can someone mock up a logo on a helmet with the logo as it is now with just a black outline around it? Nothing where the D and the feathers are modified. Would be interesting to see what it looks like.
  9. So in 3 days they have gotten 3810 signatures. I would hardly call that a mandate.
  10. Unless they plan on getting donations to cover the $50,000 spent on this logo to start over and do it all over again, it ain't gonna happen. Espcially considering the financial issues that UND is going through right now. Give it time. I already like it more today than I did last Thursday.
  11. Digging up an old thread, but I think that the Alerus really needs to adopt the new name and logo as much as Bubba and the rest of the football team are. May thinks that the Alerus should do eventually to really make the Alerus Center the home of Fighting Hawks football. Putting the logo in the center of the field would be a great start. Anyone with some sill want to mock up the current turf design with the new Hawks logo on it? I think it would look pretty good.
  12. I'd really like to see UND go with the new logo on one side of the helmet and the payers number on the other along with a stripe(s) down the middle of it as well. Would look great!
  13. I don't think people are saying that every student athlete or coach has to be as fired up as Bubba is about the new logo. Can you not like the final product, sure. But these student atheletes are representing the University of North Dakota and the Athletic department. Not saying they have to fall into line and all state publicly their support. But as a representative of the UND athletic department, they should at least show a little refrain from criticizing it so vocally and publicly. You want to talk counterproductive........well there you go.
  14. Hockey players are part of the #hockeyonlyfan #siouxforever fanbase. Big surprise!!
  15. So there is a lot of mixed emotions regarding the announcement of the new Fighting Hawks logo for the University of North Dakota. I am disappointed with the negative comments that are out there by people in our fanbase. I think we can all agree that this whole nickname ordeal has been a long, messy, unorganized, cluster of a process. Were there things they could have done better, sure. Were there other nicknames and logos that could have been better, sure. But we have now come to a point where instead of bickering amongst ourselves and complaining about nickname issues, we must come together and rally around the new name and logo and move forward and focus on the important things for UND athletics. And that is success on the playing field/court/ice/etc. The Fighting Sioux name and logo was great. But it’s time for all of us as UND fans to accept reality and embrace change. As much as many of us want to be the Fighting Sioux again and have the old logo back, it’s not gonna happen. So instead of using all that effort to complain about change and cause a divide by refusing to move on, why don’t we all use our energy to support the University of North Dakota and its athletic teams and athletes. We will always be fans of the University of North Dakota. The name and logo has changed several times in our past, but the passion and tradition of the University of North Dakota has always been the same. Let us embrace the change and move forward and continue to all cheer for our team together, united. #UNDproud
  16. One initial positive from the new logo is it makes it easier to fit it between the hash marks at the center of the field in the Alerus Center!!
  17. Putting the inital(s) of your state in a college logo is a pretty standard thing to do. Many Universities do it. I think it was a smart idea to do it as well.
  18. Schloss already broke that today. http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=103359 Looks like its just the logo and the move up to FBS left to go!!
  19. Which brings up another interesting point. We read all the time how former players sign these big contracts. Curious to see how loyal they are in the area of donating back to the University that gave them the opportunity to better their career. Now I am not talking about guys like Nick who get their rookie deal. I'm talking about the Toews or Parise's out there that sign tens of million dollar contacts. Is that something that is public info? Or can a guy like Parise make an anonymous donation to the athletic department (specifically hockey)?
  20. That's pretty good!! Montgomery is a pretty class act. I'd say all the coaches in the NCHC are that way as well. Dang, I miss the days of hating on this rival coaches that we played all the time (Gwoz, Lucia, Eaves).
