  1. I would love to see UND join the Summit League and believe it would be a win win for both UND and the Summit. I would think/hope that the current Summit League teams that are also in the MVFC, could help UND gain admittance to the MVFC. Having UND join the Summit League would bring more stability and strength to the Summit League and having a stable and strong Summit League in turn brings more stability and strength to the MVFC. Failing a joint Summit/MVFC opportunity, is there any possiblity/interest of leaving football in the Big Sky and moving all other sports to the Summit?
  2. Thanks for all the info regarding places to stay, etc. Trying to get a group put together to leave early Saturday AM to arrive in Grand Forks in plenty of time to partake of the pregame festiviites and likely spend the evening in Grand Forks before heading back on Sunday. With regards to what to expect from the Yotes, I don't follow the roster close enough to give much detail. The obvious will be how well the Yotes transition to the coaching staff and the new hurry up offense. Most of the skilled positions return on offense along with most of the defensive backfield. Question marks will be both the offensive and defensive lines.
  3. I have never been to a game in Grand Forks, but am considering making the trip this year. Would appreciate any recommendations for places to stay, to partake of a pregame beverage or 2, etc. Would love to see both teams undefeated heading into the game. The Yotes go on the road in week 1 to New Mexico and host Weber State in week 2.
  4. The game against USD on August 30 will be the first event played in the new Sanford Coyote Sports Center
  5. Pure speculation, but perhaps it is part of a plan to get Wichita State to join the Horizon League.
  6. I didn't follow the Big Sky close enough to judge the quality of what would be a good win and what would be a bad loss, but am guessing the narrow win over Drake probably hurt your chances more than any of your losses.
  7. This whole process resonates "death by committee". The 5 remaining nicknames all appear to by trying to drive a square peg in a round hole. Try as you might, they just don't fit. From my outside viewpoint, going back to Flickertails would be preferable to any of the Final 5.
  8. Recommendation from Mick Garry of the Argus Leader http://www.argusleader.com/story/mickgarry/2015/06/18/und-fighting-sioux-nicknames-north-dakota-college-sports/28958187/
  9. Should be a good early season test for both USD and UND as both handled Tulane pretty handily. I am sure UND will be tough to beat on their home court.
  10. Brian Jones mentioned as list of possible candidates to replace Jim Molinari at Western Illinois per attached blog http://www3.thehawkeye.com/bohnenkamp_blog/?p=2371
  11. Forgot about that. Good luck to the UND men against Weber State.
  12. Congrats on making it to the big dance. SDSU won one game in either their first or second visit and should have won two that same year, but were the victims of some terrible calls against Baylor at a game in Waco. ESPN's Charlie Creme http://espn.go.com/ncw/bracketology has UND as a 14 seed against West Virginia and playing in Iowa City. USD is projected as a 15 seed and is matched up against Louisville and playing in Ames. Creme also has SDSU in the first 4 out. Not likely, but could end up with all 4 D1 programs in the Dakotas (3 womens & 1 mens) sending a team to the Dance
  13. That was fun. Oshie is a cool customer.
  14. DeBoer is a native of Milbank, SD and was a multi-sport athlete at Milbank high school. Milbank is in NE SD about 200 miles from Grand Forks. Also need to remember interview process is both sides determining if job is correct fit.
  15. The Yotes were picked 4th in the preseason poll behind the 2 Indiana schools and Denver. Really won't know how they stack up against these teams as few if any common opponents in nonconference play. The Yotes are 5 - 0 against the Big Sky this year with wins over both Montana schools, Idaho State & Eastern Washington in addition to UND.
  16. You can go to virtually any FCS message board, a few exceptions such as Montana, App State, etc., and find many of the same concerns about student attendance. In my opinion one of the main reasons is the television effect. ESPN and others make so many BCS games available that a lot of students who are avid football fans at FCS schools are more concerned about the BCS team they happen to follow. The network talking heads don't give FCS football its due and to many FCS school students buy in to this line of thinking. They would rather stay in their apartment, dorm room or local pub and watch the Gators, Sooners, Irish etc than watch their school's team in person. (I don't understand or agree with their line of thinking, but it is the way it is for many). For the non avid fan, if the game they are attending, all the TV timeouts have resulted in most games now taking close the 3 hours to complete. That is too long, especially for the non avid fan.
  17. The game program showed UND playing at USD on 9/20/14. (Would not be real surprised if game is played in Sioux Falls) 2015 schedule is also included in the program and it shows 10 games, of which only 4 are home games, with open dates on Sep 19 & Sep 26. Am guessing USD will play at UND in 2016.
  18. Any idea why UND didn't sign the contract? Are games in future years still on the table?
  19. Should have put Alerus Center in the same position as H Lauren Lewis Field on the new turf in the DakotaDome
  20. Following is a link to an interview with Tom Nieman from Midco Sports. http://callingallsportssd.com/archives.php The applicable interview is Segment 2 on 6/8/12. It deals primarily with Midco's coverage of USD & SDSU, but does talk some of long term plans and NDSU coverage. With regards to long-term plans, they eventually plan to make broadcasts available to other cable systems (& I assume also to Direct TV & Dish). I got the impression that this will not happen for 2012-2013 season. With regards to coverage of the Bison, they tried to make arrangements to cover Bison football for the upcoming season, but could not reach an agreement. (Likely because Midco doesn't have access to the Fargo market). They did say that Bison have an agreement with a local ND station to broadcast all home Bison football games. Midco still trying to reach an agreement to televise some Bison basketball.
  21. Which counties are the rez's located in?
  22. Hopefully today's vote puts an end to this issue. Will be interesting to see the vote totals for the counties where the Indian Reservations are located. If the totals of those counties are consistent with the total statewide vote to retire the nickname then hopefully all agree to retire the nickname and moveon. However is those counties vote to keep the nickname, then things might get interesting irregardless of the statewide vote.
  23. If true, glad to see the games against UND renewed. Would give the Yotes home games in 2013 against Montana, UND & SDSU.
  24. Any then your buddy hung up on keeping his nickname, which offends the rest of the family, goes through an ugly divorce.
