  1. It looked pretty bad...let's hope he's ok
  2. Agree 100%- that broadcast was bush league all the way...bring back Sweeney and "Oh Baby" Howard It was actually embarrassing. The hoakiness of the old crew was endearing. This new crew acts like they are first class, and really they are just minor league. Note to UND and NCHC- DO NOT GO WITH THIS "B-SQUAD" TV CREW. I am just embarrassed and really disappointed in them
  3. Super impressed with: Danny, Knight, Rocco, MacMillan, Rowney, Forbert, Saunders impressed with: St Clair, Parks (please be minor injury), Pattyn, Caggiula (was quietly where he needed to be all night)
  4. My man Wilbur mentioned pressure box, diamond, and box...all solid pp set-ups. I always like the overload myself...I love the idea of forcing the defensive strong side winger down to help, which frees up the point to creep, which if they rotate to cover leaves that weakside winger with a nice bottom of the circle look at an out of position goalie... It will be fun to see what Bubba brings to the table
  5. My first pp unit would have Danny as the weakside shooter, not on the point. I'd put Knight at center to win the draw and wreak havoc in front of the net. Danny as weakside shooter and playmaker. Rowney as the third forward, Mattson and Simpson up top My 2nd pp unit would be Grimaldi at center put then roll to the weakside shooter and playmaker. Parks to wreak havoc around the net, and O'Donnell on the stronside. Schmaltz and Gleason up top.
  6. 100% concur with one exception- I wrote almost the identical post this afternoon at work, which i lost due to not being logged in. Oh, and Wilbur- I am by no means an expert- I play one on the internet : ) My one change is that I put Schmaltz with Mac and Mattson with Forbert- give the rookie first rounder some padding with the MAC truck
  7. Yup- apparently they are trying to find the fastest way to get the the highest alcohol content into your bloodstream- so just bypass the stomach and everything your body has built to protect it from too much alcohol. Yes, as John Bonham and the drummer prior to Peter James Bond in "Spinal Tap" can't attest to- drunken vomit aspiration is a big deal
  8. with you on that...I am probably most concerned that the team didn't look out for them either...your team is supposed to be your family, and yes, you initiate the new boys, but you don't wash your hands of them if they are way, way drunk.
  9. You are where I was over the weekend and monday. I think a lot of folks are just concerned with the risks. Look, none of us were there, so we don't know exactly what went down. The team (players that is) sanctioned a night of very heavy boozing. If no 911 call, then none of this plays out beyond a practice from hell, but once it becomes that public, it has to be addressed- it has been, and everyone will move on. Hopefully the better for it.
  10. Good not to have the #1 hanging on your back to start the season. I think it really shows the depth and skill the Gophs and Sioux have to be ranked so highly with unproven goaltending.
  11. yes, we'll field a team- should result in some good early season conditioning for the boys that aren't sitting.
  12. I think one of the big differences is, when someone you were with (or you, yourself) were puking and passing out drunk- so was everyone else you were around. I have to think that if I had come across myself or some of my friends after an extraordinary drunk evening while I was stone sober, I would've probably been concerned too. Generally we put a bucket by them and tossed a coat or some blankets on them and passed out ourselves. I stand by some of my earlier comments in that you can't always protect people from themselves, but I think the RA did the right thing. I also think that the message has been sent and received. If the kids are doing some of the things I've been enlightened about- eye shots, tampons soaked in booze- that needs to be corrected. If they are doing 20 shots- that needs to be corrected. If at the freshmen party they encourage them to shotgun a six pack of beer- well, can't condone it, but that is where I was with the boys will be boys thinking.
  13. RA was doing his/her job. You can't fault them for being cautious. Were those guys in serious trouble or were they just drunk? No way to tell without more facts. Clearly they were very drunk. Glad no serious harm done. Time to move on and drop the puck.
  14. Came out while I was responding. I traded a note with someone about this surge in what I would characterize as mental health illness type drinking. I've been out of undergrad for 13 years- seems like things have changed
  15. Pretty good, and might bother me if it had any merit- Now, just as in back in the day, I go to bed a happy man and wake up a happy man. I have no complaints about any aspects of my life- least of all the attractiveness of my wife. In fact, I am extremely lucky and very grateful for not only my personal gifts and talents, but also that I have been fortuitous enough to reap the benefits of them.
  16. No nerve struck, I am just really surprised by the pugilist approach is all. Violence is generally not accepted by normal people. For the record, I not only got her to go home with me; I got her to marry me.
  17. You actually support bar fighting? Are you serious? You condone violence?
  18. A kid who is drinking with the intent of self-harm (meaning objective is to pass-out as you describe) needs mental health professionals. Rules won't help that kid.
  19. Agree 100% that bad things can happen from drinking. Unsure about the surge in drinking to pass out- WTF? Why would anyone want to do that? Perhaps I am out of touch. I am willing to concede that. When I was in school, you got drunk to unwind, to pass the time with friends, to do stupid things that you wouldn't do sober, and hopefully to go home with a pretty girl. Some guys liked to fight- I always thought that was dumb and for guys who were incapable of going home with a pretty girl. You drank to be social, and if the social activities lasted long enough, you became drunk. Rarely did you pound the hard stuff. We stuck to beer. Which is probably a good lesson for the kiddies- I don't think that you can consume enough beer (based on amount of water and stomach capacity) to get alcohol poisoning from beer. You can get stupid drunk and make big mistakes, but I can't imagine drinking yourself comatose with beer.
  20. I've never said that they shouldn't have suspensions or whatever else- my position is that people are making way too big a deal over this.
  21. If someone truly needed medical attention, then I would question what they were doing, absolutely. I have yet to see proof of that.
  22. Ignorance can be cured- here is my primary source for my statement http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/university-of-north-dakota-3005 University of North Dakota rank #170 University of Minnesota -TC rank #68 University of Wisconsin- Madison rank #41 By the way, this source is the primary source that those in academic administration use. As stated, I am a Sioux hockey fan, not an all things UND fan. I do not wish the institution ill will, but I also see it through completely un-tinted glasses in terms of all things other than hockey.
  23. I always believed that college was the place where you could make huge mistakes and still recover. Everyone must choose their own way- dictating morality creates rules that make the rule makers feel better, but does nothing to change the behavior or mores of the intended miscreants. I disagree that college is for personal guidance- for mistakes to be corrected; i believe it is the place to make them and have self-discovery- perhaps that is why we disagree on this topic? I say make huge mistakes in college- learn all you can from them- and grow into a productive member of society.
  24. Who gets to set those expectations??? The moral authority of this board? It is the administration, and UND just had a record enrollment year- that enrollment and the $$ is the driver of all big decisions, and don't kid yourselves, that number is not due to outstanding academic achievement. UND now (wasn't always the case) has a reputation, especially in Metro Minnesota, as a fun party school with tuition reciprocity, with a great hockey team- that you can still get into if your grades and ACT scores don't get you into Madison or Minnesota, sorry to tell it like it is. Remember Matt Greene's great statement to Edmonton? My posts began by stating that this isn't a big deal and the coaches are dealing with it. I have taken a harder stance due to the responses essentially calling these guys out as needing to get their heads adjusted. Ask yourself this, does UND hockey players getting insanely drunk 3 weeks before the season starts truly cause you concerns? Flame away, but it is all the truth.
