I figured it had to have been in the "early" days. Thanks. Also - I am pretty sure Tom Philion is from Crosby and just played HS hockey in Minot. Nice article on some of the locals. Brian Williams from Fargo North was also one of the best ND born Sioux players. I believe he graduated a year or two before the 87 championship team.

Who are the players from Whapeton and Jamestown that played for the Sioux?

BC looked slow? Did you watch them against MN? They dominated Miami most of the game - then went to sleep the first part of OT. BC and Michigan are the fastest teams I have seen play this year. If UND's defense look like they did last weekend April 10 is going to be a very ugly day. If they gave up 35-40 shots against Princeton and WI, BC should get 60. Hopefully the Sioux can get healthy over the next 10 days. Getting Trupp and LaPoint back will also help. I have defended Finley all year and thought he played most of the season as one of the top D men in the country. Last weekend every time he took the ice all I saw was:

That is very cool. It is pretty lame they do not even mention that in the Forum article. Paul Gaustad is cousins with the Potulny's and the Gaustad kid that plays for Grafton. One heck of a hockey family. Too bad none of them played for the Sioux. To give the Forum some credit, Paul Gaustad did move from Fargo when he was fairly young.

1. You have to be smart to go to Princeton 2. My goalie from high school played there - Nate Nomeland 1999-2000 Princeton 6 1 1 0 .500 0 2.38 .923 2000-2001 Princeton 9 2 3 1 .417 1 3.57 .905 2001-2002 Princeton 6 0 2 0 .000 0 3.35 .880 2002-2003 Princeton 14 0 9 2 .091 0 3.78 .882 3. Princeton sucks most years (as evidenced by above) 4. Hobey Baker (the Hobey Baker) played at Princeton 5. Nobody from Princeton has won the Hobey Baker award 6. Hobey Baker was classmates with F. Scott Fitzgerald who supposedly based the main character from This Side of Paridise on Baker 7. F. Scott Fitzgerald is from St. Paul and wrote the Great Gatsby - the best book ever written. 8. Gatsby ends up getting shot to death in his pool while feeling sorry for himself. Based on the above I predict a 2-0 Sioux win.

Congrats to Brian, it sounds like he played well. That would have been a fun game to watch, three former sioux and a kid from Fargo.

That game could easily have been the championship game. That Hanowski kid from Little Falls has one of the best individual performances I have ever seen in a game. I looked at the box score and he had 13 shots on goal As a team Little falls had 27.

+/- is a very good way to rank defensemen. Obviously it is not the only indicator of how a player is doing, but Finley's +/- is extremely impressive. Finley has been having a very good year and I would seriously question anyone's knowledge of the game who ranks him as the weakest defenseman on the team. With the seven D the Sioux have I can see it being very difficult to determine who sits.

Fargo has never had a venue that hold 3,000+ fans. The Force is a big gamble, but I could see it working. They are already marketing it towards Sioux fans, instead of trying to compete with them. They are trying to work their schedule so they do not conflict with UND's home games. I think the key is to get as many local players as possible. If the Force team has 5-6 kids from ND and Section 8 I think that will add to the appeal (especially Moorhead kids). Also having committed Sioux players will obviously help. I do not see NDSU BB competing much with USHL hockey. I have never been to a BB game, but I would think their would be few people who are fans of both. Then again I have an unhealthy dislike for the game of basketball I think youth hockey and the Sioux will be the biggest competitors for fans. The smart approach IMO is to try and partner up with both as much as possible. They have already tried to appeal to Sioux fans. I imagine they will aggressively market towards youth players and their parents.

Scary NHL Moment: Richard Zednik neck slashed with skate
jloos replied to larsensa's topic in Men's Hockey
Personally I had my neck sliced open by a hockey skate twice. Once in high school against Red River - cut was vertical and the Dr. who sewed it up said it missed the carotid artery by about 2 cm. It still pumped out a decent amount of blood. The second time was when I was coaching. That time the skate came across my windpipe. Luckily it did not do any major damage, but did require a lot of thread to shut it. Also when I was coaching I had a player get his wrist stepped on. That one did hit an artery. The kids thought it was funny that his wrist would spray blood in tune to his heartbeat. I almost passed out You can make various safety equipment mandatory, but you can never make hockey (or any contact sport) completely safe. -

It got some national press, which is probably what the intent was. ND Tourism (it exists although I agree it is kind of an oxymoron), has been all over this story. The Fargo Form has also tried to stir the pot. Any press is good press. I did not think the article was demeaning. I have lived in ND most of my life and I have never been to any of the places mentioned in the article except Medora. The story depicted these small towns as miserable depressing places. I can see how residents of these areas would be upset if this was not true. However, the only criticism I have heard is from people in Bismarck.

My wife and I will be at the Saturday game (my Christmas present ). It has been a few years since I have been to St. Cloud. The last time I was there I had a full soda dropped on my head by one of the wonderful protesters.

Lakota Indians Withdraw Treaties Signed With U.S. 150 Years Ago
jloos replied to The Sicatoka's topic in UND Nickname
Is this another ploy for Russell to get out of charges for beating up his wife? 9th Circuit case -
Sudie Hofmann is the same nutcase who has been trying to ban kids from making mothers day and fathers day cards in school (I am not making this up). I believe she is also the main instigator for organizing protests at SCSU against the Sioux name. I would be curious to know how many times she has been to Grand Forks. Apparently Jews have joined Christians in groups it is ok to discriminate against. Maybe the good professor should put her cool-aide down and take a look around her own campus. A quick google search of the professor is pretty entertaining. This is one of the funniest articles

Pearson also cares what the rest of the tribal members think. There is a majority that support the nickname. Standing Rock is like a third world country. The people in charge could give a rip about the people they are supposed to represent. The people in charge are constantly changing and only care about being in charge for personal gain. The geniouses that decided to settle this decided to put the decision in the hands of Standing Rock. Great job - UND supporters sure got their $800,000 worth Before anyone calls my comment about Standing Rock racist - I suggest you try and work with their tribal government and visit the reservation. Spirit Lake is nearly a 180 from Standing Rock - although I think there is some truth in Pearson wanting Spirit Lake out of the mess while Standing Rock is involved.

The "settlement" was a terrible idea. Most people are going to perceive all Natives as the source of retiring the Sioux name. The push against the name has always been pushed by white elitists who feel the need to "educate" the rest of us. Unfortunately these same people are the ones who push for various federal monies that benefit the tribes. I hate to make generalizations, but from my experience many tribal governments are extremely corrupt. The feds have gotten better at accounting for grant money, but there are still plenty of council members who steal from the cookie jar. Standing Rock has a reputation of being more corrupt than most. From my experience, Spirit Lake has done a good job making sure these things do not happen. However, Spirit Lake still is under considerable pressure from those white elitists to not support the name. The only way the Standing Rock council is going to approve the name is if the members are able to profit from it. This statement is not intended to be racist, but I think it is a reality. Indian Reservations were created to isolate the tribes and prevent them from organizing against the US government. This is a fact. The US government never gave tribes cholera laced blankets or, but they did place the Indians in a situation where they could choose between being dependant on the US government or face annihalation. This was wrong, and I think most people now realize this. However in order to "fix" the problem the government first decided to blindly throw money at the reservations. Obviously this did not work. Next they decided to make them "self sufficient" by allowing them to build casinos. This has worked for some tribes, but has brought with it a host of other problems including corruption and organized crime. This is my perception of things, I do not claim it is correct. The ultimate irony is that if the tribal councils (more so standing rock than spirit lake) do agree that UND honors the Sioux, it will be because UND is basically bribing the tribe.

This is a very old trick. The US Marshals have done this a couple of times using Super Bowl tickets. I believe the first time they did it was in the 1980's. They have done similar stings since then and several local cops have copied it. US MARSHAL STING

Bottom 10 College Football Teams

It was better than giant douche or turd sandwich. I think this team will do better than the prior USHL teams. Fargo will actually have a venue with a normal sized sheet of ice.

That shows how stupid the fans are - he didn't actually make a save in the game. If he has a 0 save % after facing Michigan State, maybe there will be some cause for concern.

Lets not go overboard, remember he did attend St. Cloud State. Other than that one huge lapse in judgment, I agree he is a very well grounded "kid".
