  1. I am a NDSU grad who drives to Grand Forks. I have several friends who did not go to either school who drive from Fargo or Moorhead for hockey games. Moorhead high school hockey draws about as many people as Bison BB. The majority of people who do not like hockey are small towners who did not have the sport. I feel bad for them I am obviously biased because I really only follow hockey. I still root for NDSU football. I go to a few games every year. My father in law is actually getting inducted into the NDSU hall of fame during homecoming this year. I have to check the dates - I hope it is before hockey season starts.
  2. Today - CLR $71 Today - MDU $33 Today - HES $126 Today - WLL $105 Today - EOG $129 - can't win them all (it actually went up to the $140's before coming back down - is on way back up). Natural Gas has yet to = the gains oil has had. That will change this winter when the US has a huge nat gas shortage and we are paying through the teeth to heat our houses. Over this same time period the DOW is down about 1%.
  3. This is likely very true, but Sidney Crosby is 20 year exception. A player of his caliber does not come around very often. He came to the QMJHL as a 100% sure thing. There was no doubt he was going to be the #1 NHL draft and that he would have a significant impact in the NHL. The same cannot be said for Clarke, Turris or anyone else mentioned. I spoke to an aquaintance who is involved in the MJHL and he said as far as he knows the QMJHL, OHL and WHL all have caps on what players can receive. He said Rimouski paid Crosby a % of the gate to get around this (I have heard $1/ticket). The CHL (or QMJHL) has since allegedly closed this loophole. He also said he has never heard of a player getting paid hundreds of thousands to play junior hockey. He said the stipend varies but it is pretty typical for a player to get his room and board plus a year of college for each year he plays (like another poster said). On top of that each player gets a monthly "allowance" that does vary, but is not very much.
  4. This was my understanding as well. I know a few guys that played in the WHL and OHL and were paid around $500 per month (plus room, board and future college). I am pretty sure all players get their college paid for when they are done (not that it means much given Canadian Universities are more or less free for Canadian residents). However, I would also believe high profile players make considerably more money. I did hear that Crosby was given a rake from the gate. I do not know if that is true or not. I have a very hard time believing Turris was offered $250K. If that is the case things have changed drastically in the past 10 years.
  5. Luke Beaverson - Blaise backed out after he verbally committed to UND. I doubt this was as orchestrated as it appears. I am under the belief that CHL players do not get a "salary". Instead their room, board and education are fully paid for and they receive a stipend of some sort for other expenses. Things could have changed or I could be wrong, but while they receive some kind of compensation it is not enough to support anyone other than the player.
  6. They had them at the Como zoo when I lived in St. Paul (about 8 blocks away from the zoo). They would not touch their food until it started rotting. I am not sure why they thought they would be a good zoo animal. The exhibit did not exactly smell like flowers. If I lived in DC I would likely call the cops if I saw any sort of scavenger in my yard. Gotta love the only place in America where humans get shot at more than any animal. I would also call the cops on any chicken hawk sitings. Where there is a chicken hawk there is bound to be Foghorn Leghorn.
  7. Looks like a Turkey Vulture. I have seen them a few times down south. I don't think they make it this far north. Ugly birds.
  8. This would be my question as well. I would guess it would be for either salary cap (or some other accounting) reasons or PR reasons. He could have been BS ing my brother as well, although my brother was not the one to bring it up (he is not a die hard Sioux fan and a SCSU grad )
  9. Polymet Mining - PLM. They are going to start mining nickel, copper and precious metals in the mesabi iron range. They are converting an iron ore facility and should start producing within a year. I get 10% of any profits made on my tips (and 0% of any losses)
  10. Chorney is signing with Edmonton in August for I believe $760k, which is below the rookie max but not a bad pay day. This is according to my brother's conversation with Chorney himself. I hate to start rumors, but if he is talking openly about it, I view that as being public knowledge.
  11. CLR to start drilling in Bakken The Stock jumped above $60/share. A 400% gain for me since buying it last fall. 63% gain since April 15. If you can't beat em joint em.
  12. They would love to, but the government will not allow any more to be built. They are extrememly dirty and government regulations make it impossible to build and maintain a new refinery. Also the refineries that are running are not making any money. Their margins are terrible. Not all oil companies are raking in huge profits, Valero and Tesoro (along with all refiners) either are losing, or will start losing money in the very near future. The lefties make Bush out to be anti-environment and pro oil business. However, he has done nothing for this business. If more refineries were built it would not solve, but would help the current problem.
  13. This is why capitalism works. You can either sit on the sidelines and watch big business make money or you can invest in big business and make money with them. April 15 - CLR was $38/share Today $50/share April 15 - MDU was $27.50/share Today almost $30/share April 15 - HES was $101/share Today $118+/share April 15 - WLL was $75.50/share Today $79.60/share April 15 - EOG was $128/share Today $138/share All five of these companies will continue to do well in the near future. At some point there will be a pop in all but MDU (who is very diversified). Frankly I will take $3/gallon gas if I can make a 300% return on CLR. The price of oil has numerous factors. The politicians attempt to dumb it down and blame one or two factors, but this is not the case. Hillary and Obama have called for "windfall" taxes against oil companies. So in their minds increasing a companies tax liability will reduce the price of said company's product Frankly I expected more from Obama than the standard rhetoric. Say what you will about Bill Clinton, but at least he had a grasp on economics. Apparently the same can be said about his wife. Who knows what John McCain thinks, if anything. Why would he open his mouth when his competition is destroying each other?
  14. Something smells fishy with these allegations. From my experience when you have a story so over the top, everything needs to be investigated. I am in no way saying the victim made everything up. Just that the authorities should be investigating this possibility. It would not be the first time this has happened.

There was a boat in that picture?

    sioux harley

Never had one. I am just going off what others tell me. Apparently it is a big superstition - among Harley riders anyway. I believe it stems from the same superstition among race car drivers. I am not sure where it came from. It sounds like a job for google

  18. Is this the right wing conspiracy Hillary was talking about It is called capitalism. You can complain about it or profit from it yourself - CLR, HES, WLL, EOG and to a smaller extent MDU. I am pretty happy about buying CLR last fall. I have owned MDU for years. I wish I had a piece of the rest of those companies. The execs at these companies are making money either way. So long as they follow the SEC rules they are not doing anything wrong.
  19. I was paying real close attention This was a close play. However, the rule is supposed to be like the NFL rule (my understanding anyway) and it should have only been ruled a no goal unless it was obviously the wrong call on the ice. I do not see how this could be. Sheppard should receive the pink slip the second he steps off the short bus on his way back from Denver.
  20. I thought it should have been a goal - which is what Sheppard called it. The video replay official disagreed. Either way it was a very close play and not an obvious call like the WI game referred to earlier.
  21. Some people get a little too involved. In the end it is only a game. Although my recurring nightmare become expanded last night. I see these images over and over.
  22. Champions since 2000 WCHA hockey 6/8 - 9 counting this year. Still 2/3. Wisconsin Denver Denver Minnesota Minnesota North Dakota Champions since 2000 Big Ten football Ohio State ND and BC were pretty evenly matched. The Sioux decided to fall asleep defensively and BC's goalie stood on his head. It could have easily been 4-0 Sioux after the first as wide open as both teams played.
  23. That would be pushing it. I am glad I didn't fork over the $1200 they wanted for that flight. Those planes United uses out of Fargo are scary. They had problems with the doors becoming ajar (not open) while in flight. I worked at the airport and saw more than a few very people getting off those planes. Apparently a door open a crack while traveling 450 mph 40000 feet in the air makes a little noise
  24. If you want to see some of the money from ND oil buy some MDU stock. They own a lot of mineral rights in the Bakken formation. BAKKEN
