I think the coaches should start raiding the intramural leagues and the pickup games at the Wellness Center, there are people there that could shoot way better than what UND is. Ugh.
A couple things about this game after going to it...
UND really needs to work on free throws, that was one of the differences in this game. They missed several that would have made this game much closer.
IPFW was on fire from the three through most of the first half. That was another difference in the game, combine that with the missed free throws and you get the gap, otherwise it was pretty even.
Overall I liked the defensive effort, but I have a hard time figuring out UND's offense. Seemed to be the high screen almost every time. I thought Denter was able to do some good work on IPFW's 6'10" center and would've liked to see some more inside/out offense as that produced some good looks.
After hearing some of the good talk about Huff on here, I was expecting to see a bit more from him. Overall I thought he made some poor decisions with the ball and was looking to try and make something that just wasn't there. Although the halfcourt shot at the end of the half was definitely an excellent shot and looked almost effortless.
My final note on the game, effort was there, but some of the fundamentals were just lacking.
P.S. The crowd for the most part was dead... the student section was tiny, which was disappointing to see.
Right now I'd rather see Hendrickson throw incompletes than Goska. Hendrickson just has the feeling like something's going to connect and things will happen. Goska just feels like we don't even have a threat of a pass.
How many more mistakes can this team make? Blown tackles, stupid penalties, horrible turnovers. I've been a Sioux football fan all my life, but this is hard to watch.
Neither am I. Looked it up, and only people with Midcontinent digital receivers get channel 597. Don't know why it's not being shown on channel 27 in GF. Lame!!
Here's something I've heard about this, not sure if it's true or if this is just a rumor. My source claims to have heard it from a sub-contractor involved in building the new football stadium.
So my sources says that the announcement is about a very large donation from a former UND football player that apparently played some Canadian football and owned several gold and diamond mines. He apparently sold his mining company and is donating money to UND. Again this is a bit of scuttlebutt but you never know, it might be true. I suppose we'll all know after tomorrow afternoon.
I still find it funny when people associate UND sports only with hockey. They do realize there are other things, football, basketball (well, maybe not this year), baseball, softball, track and field, swimming and diving, soccer, etc.
I'm pretty sure Murray is still in school. I've seen him playing basketball at the Wellness Center as of late. Not sure if he's going to play football again or if he'll be eligible.
The season ticket holders haven't exactly been showing up either, so the blame for small crowds isn't all on the student section. That being said, the student sections have been horrible for really all but 1 game this year. Really the students aren't getting much incentive to go to these games. Grand Forks is not a football town, and despite it being the second biggest sport on the campus (as far as support), football doesn't naturally draw the students in unless the team is winning or they are playing against a "rival." Marketing/PR has to do something to draw the students to the football games and make it a social event like the hockey games. Ask students why they go to hockey games, it isn't because they think hockey is the best sport, they go because it's socially expected and is "the place to be" in Grand Forks on Friday/Saturday nights (prior to the bars that is).
